Oh where to start… Overall the new Ramen place isn’t awesome. Let’s start– after being seated we waited 10 minutes and had to ask to order drinks, which took about 5 minutes to get a pitcher of beer even though there were less than 10 people in the place. Then we had to ask to order and ask for them to explain the menu. The fried chicken is really good I will say that. Once served the egg and bamboo shoots were cold in the ramen. The soup was just barely hot. Then we had to ask for to go bowls and then ask for our check. Overall the service was really really bad. Which was similar to Shabu. I’m not sure anything will do well here with the checked out, not friendly staff. With places like this it should be friendly and helpful and attentive. Just a weird vibe. Shabu places elsewhere have a line out the door. It’s not the area, it’s this place. The portions started off decent with Shabu then were ridiculously small for the $ 26 combo. The guy was nice once we made him talk to us. But yea, it’s sad to see Shabu go. I won’t be back for Ramen either. Then we had to ask for the extra cash back on our check when they gave us the wrong change. Cool.

RIP Shabu and looks like it’s just slowly killing itself off. I’m just waiting patiently for the new business that’s going to go in there.

Pop Up, Pop what? Only open a few days a week and starts at noon. Twice I’ve come here ready for lunch, to find it closed. With other would-be diners staring blankly at the signs and going elsewhere. Come on, people. Run it like a real business or you’ll never build a following. If that’s what you want. Too many other places in the Shore are taking your customers.

Great Hokkaido style ramen. The service was great(Rayond)! Can’t wait for an excuse to come back again.

Suuuuuper bummed it’s no longer a Shabu Restaurant. It’s only ramen now. Sure the ramen is decent, but there are 10 other ramen places nearby. No other shabu. Bring back the shabu!

I was here when Eat Shabu was Shabu Shabu and I also experienced Ramen Yeah! I am super bummed and disappointed that the only Shabu Shabu place in Long Beach is gone. Sure the Ramen was tastey. The broth had a rich full body flavor but it was quite pricey for the size and very stingy on the meat portion.

Ramen was edible but by no means good. Eggs were so overcooked that they were grey, any decent chef or cook should be able to properly cook an egg let alone a ramen shop that should have perfectly soft boiled marinated eggs. The broth was bland. When I asked for soy sauce, or garlic, or green onions or sesame seeds or sesame oil or anything that I could use to fix the disaster of a broth they didn’t have any. Not even soy sauce. The noodles were not al dente instead they were cooked to the point of starting to fall apart. When Eat Shabu served shabu it was great, the ramen is not. I hope they get past this ramen phase and get back to serving something appetizing.

So this restaurant is called Eat Shabu, but they don’t serve Shabu Shabu anymore… Being the only Shabu Shabu restaurant around, we came here quite a bit. Not so much anymore! That’s one way to lose your regular customers.

This review is for ramen yeah. I’ve been twice so far, and both times or just ok. The first time, I get it, they were just starting to get used to the new place. Today, I went and same result. It’s good in a pinch, but I’d rather drive to fountain valley or Torrance for the real deal. The shoyu broth is very watery, it would be better a little thicker with an inky saltiness. The spice factor is great, however(when ordered spicy). Here’s how they can make it better: Give you a choice of regular or firm noodles Give you a choice of regular to thick broth Offer tonkotsu style ramen Offer more sides, e.g. kimchi, garlic butter, spicy chili butter or miso, fresh garlic(pressed) Make sure the egg is cooked with a soft jelly center, and cut it in half If they step it up a bit, I see a great future for Ramen yeah!

I didn’t try the shabu shabu since they had ramen(seems like it’s a one time event) had the shoyu ramen and it was good. Service staff was friendly and seeing as it was my first time in long Beach helped me sort out places to go. Would recommend it, and would return to eat here when I come to the area.

I’m so thankful for Eat Shabu hosting the pop up event and letting Ramen Yeah! showcase their best ramen bowls & chicken kaarage! It’s only from 5⁄10 to 5/21, regular hours as Eat Shabu. We first heard of this pop up transpiring via IG(follow: @thecontaineryard) and right away, we knew we had to try it. And there’s art so that’s a huge plus! We enjoy hanging out on 2nd St over in Belmont Shore so it was such a good night. Of course, we went on the first night they launched and the entire staff were exceptional. They welcomed us in and sat us down right away. The menu was simple yet flexible. We ordered the Kaarage Chicken, a Spicy Miso Charshu ramen and a regular Miso ramen. As usual, add-ons are extra. Sadly we weren’t able to use Eat Shabu check-in promo but that’s okay, I saved it for next time! The hubs still ordered an ale which I thought had a cool name. We came on a Tuesday night but the name of the drink happened to be «Wednesday Cat White Ale.» It’s made for hump-day, written on the can, lol! He said it was very good. Notice the can was covered with American labels and stickers are noticeable. #imported I thought the ramen was a solid 3.5÷5, hence just the 4 stars. I would ease up on the flavor. It was a bit too salty but I like how it’s light on oil. Portion was decent but pricey for what we got. I’m assuming it’s because of it being a pop up. As for service, our server Felisha did an awesome job and she was all smiles the whole time. She’s super nice! The staff deserves 5 stars. Also, shoutout to Mark for being so hospitable & for sharing what Ramen Yeah! is all about.

Came here because I heard about the ramen pop up that they’re doing for a limited time. Definitely a smart move to try it… They’re serving Hokkaido style ramen and you have your choice of shoyu, miso or vegetable… And you can get it made spicy!!! Your noodles come with charshu already but their charshu was really tender and moist versus some places that have had their charshu frozen for days… Definitely recommend getting the extra charshu… If you’re looking for the fatty oily tonkotsu ramen that everybody else sells, this isn’t the place for you. Clean broth with great flavor… noodles boiled just right… and the toppings kill it!!! Great bowl of ramen… been looking for a great shoyu ramen… They also have chicken karaage with 5 different sauces… take a pick, between everyone in our group, we got all of the sauces and they were all good… A must get if you come for the pop up… My favorites were the spicy aioli and the honey mustard but eating them as is was just as good… Not one person left hungry and not one person left any food on the table… All of us enjoyed the food… Some serious grub… Hurry and get your butt down here now… They’re only here til May 21st!!!

Decided we would give this place another try because we were craving shabu. Food was good. That’s what the two stars were for. The service was crap. There we only three other couples in the place at lunchtime(maybe this is why) and the three servers couldn’t be bothered with attending to any of us because they were constantly gathered around and taking shots with an off shift employee eating at the counter(see picture). We nor the other diners were ever checked on.

Eat Shabu is a unique restaurant on 2nd St. Other than the handful of sushi places on the street, Eat Shabu is one of the few Asian restaurants. I spontaneously decided to eat here today as I was walking down 2nd St. I looked in and saw that there was no wait at all, so I decided oh hey, why not! As soon as I was seated, the server brought out a plate of veggies and udon, dipping sauces, garlic, onions, and scallions. Great service! I ended up getting the choice ribeye($ 16 for 5 oz of meat or $ 20 for 7 oz — as I was told by the server when I asked her what the difference in size was between the regular and the large). I opted for the regular since I wanted a lighter lunch today. Along with the meat and veggies, you also get your choice of white or brown rice. I am no shabu shabu connoisseur but overall, I think this meal was pretty good. The ribeye was sliced to an appropriate thickness such that it cooked quickly enough yet was still thick enough to appreciate the flavor. Although I wish the portion of veggies was larger, they were fresh and cut to a good size. I thought that the broth was a little bit on the blander side despite adding garlic, onions, and soy sauce. However, I tend to like food on the blander side, so that was fine for me. This is also a relatively light and healthy dining option on 2nd St, so that is definitely a plus.

Location: Eat Shabu is located in the Belmont Shore area in LB. Parking is generally NOTGOOD. There are several restaurants/shops in this area and all are street parking with meters that are monitored until very late at night. There is one parking lot that I know of that is «free», but it’s at the end of the Belmont Shore street(2nd street) and several blocks from Eat Shabu. You just gotta suck it up and drive around until you find that parking spot. Practice your parallel parking! It’s also somewhat hard to spot the restaurant as its not huge and part of the façade outside is black. I believe it was across the street from a Peet’s coffee though so you can look for that too. Service: I’m going to try and keep this brief. When you sign in here, they have a chalkboard hanging on the wall where you write your name and you can see who is ahead of you. When we arrived, there was a party of 4, 2 and then us(party of 2). About 10 minutes after we got there FOUR seats opened up on one side of the restaurant. When they didn’t seat anyone there, we got curious. I got up and looked and there appeared to be nothing wrong with the seats… why aren’t they seating people there? After another 20 minutes, I asked why. She said 1) they don’t seat people until the water is there and heated up, and 2) she was trying to reach a party of 4 who had left their number but decided to go shopping in the meantime. First, the water thing is totally bull. Second, she had called the family 3 times over the last 20 minutes and they HADNTANSWERED. 10 minutes AFTER this exchange(so 40 minutes since we arrived), she finally just sat the party of 2 who had been waiting longer than us. Still had 2 empty seats right? Did she seat us? NOPE. I asked if we could sit in those 2 empty seats about 10 minutes after she sat the party of 2 and she made some inane and frustrating comment about continuing to wait. About 15 – 20 minutes later, the family next to those two empty seats left leaving SIXEMPTYSEATS. The party of 4 walks in at that point saying they never got her calls(don’t know don’t care) and after they clear the tables, she finally seats all of us(without waiting for the water to boil mind you. ha.). Why we had to wait 70 minutes for a party of 2 was BEYONDUS. Work on your seating method Eat Shabu. This was very very frustrating and we almost left about 5 times. Food: Shabu is pretty straight forward — no complaints about anything here. The soup base was good for the noodle soup after the shabu too. I only use ponzu sauce usually, but the goma was not bad either. Rice was cooked well enough. We had to ask for water refills, but since all the servers are kind of in the middle of the restaurant, its pretty easy to catch them. Overall: We dont anticipate going back during busy/high service times if THAT is the way they seat people. I can think of several places we can DRIVETOO that are further away where we would have been done before we were even seated here.

Very authentic Japanese shabu shabu place! They give you a plate of veggies and you get to choose your broth base(either shabu or sukiyaki) and the protein. I got the sukiyaki with prime beef and my boyfriend got the shabu with prime beef. The meat quality was decent and goes well with both broths. Save the noodles from the veggie plate for last because they will give you a bowl with sauce to eat it with. All my years of eating shabu shabu this was actually the first time I’ve seen this concept which was pretty interesting. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and the vibe here and will definitely be coming back whenever we crave shabu shabu. P. S. If you check in on Unilocal, you get a free appetizer. Recommend the chicken karaage because it’s good and you get more bang for the buck.

I travel out to Long Beach and come here pretty much every week. The wait staff is friendly(Bri and Nicole are the best), and they’ll teach you how to do shabu properly if you’ve never been. If you don’t like cooking your own food, not sure why you would give this place one star. That’s like going to the gym and giving it a bad review because you don’t like lifting weights. Just stupid. Anyway, the meats, salmon, and veggies always look fresh and taste great. The sauces they provide are just awesome. The place can get loud at times, but so can every place in Belmont Shores. It’s set up to be a community style place, where everyone sits around the main service area like a bar. I’ll be coming back every week until I stop traveling!
