This is a great place for casual sushi dining. Located on the busy 2nd street of Belmont Shore, this sushi restaurant is kind of a hidden gem. I live right on Naples Island and I’ve walked past Sushi Saurus so many times without noticing it. My boyfriend and I were deciding between sushi saurus and sushi on fire. We ultimately chose Sushi Saurus and we were glad we did. We were seated immediately(it was a Wednesday night or something) at the bar and were provided with iced lemon water. It was good water! I was feeling really hungry and fat so I convinced my boyfriend to order 4 rolls. Once the chef looked at it, he told us that it would probably be a bit too much for two people, so we cut it down to three rolls. We are glad we listened to the chef because 3 rolls was MORE than enough! I think we got the Pink Lady, the Saurus, and… the Cajun something with a 2nd street special roll on the side off of the happy hour menu. All were super fresh(especially the salmon!!!) and really delicious. No artificial junk. They also have really yummy squid/octopus/seaweed appetizer. I will definitely be back!

So I’m not a sushi fan, but was invited to go here for a friend’s birthday. Funny thing is that he didn’t like sushi either. I browsed the menu & I was very disappointed they didn’t have anything else — yes I do realize this is a sushi bar, but what about a chicken bowl? There’s this other sushi place in LA where they have a chicken teriyaki bowl which is yum. Instead I ordered a bottle of organic rice saki. Twas swell. Very light & sweet. It is a pretty penny though, $ 9.50.

Came here the other night after craving some sushi and had a great time! They have an all day happy hour menu, which provides smaller portions than the regular menu but is great if you’re looking to sample the menu and not break the bank. We got a little bit of everything: –spicy tuna roll(happy hour) very spicy and so delicious! –albacore and salmon sushi –2nd street special ***Delicious! My bf still keeps talking about it, 3 days later. –spicy edamame **I have never seen this anywhere else, but it is amazing! –gyoza– Yum! We also had a pitcher of beer and sake! The prices here are not bad, and the quality of food is great. Also the service is super friendly! The only thing that threw me off was that the food came out as ready and not in the«normal» way(i.e. starters first, then everyone’s meals). At first it was a little weird because my sushi came out before the apps, but ultimately it was cool as it turned our table into a mini buffet. Can’t wait to come back!

Biggest rolls I’ve ever seen! Brought my BFF and his wife(my sushi buddies) and we ordered several rolls and literally stuffed ourselves with sushi. These rolls will not dissapoint! They are HUGE! Also we enjoyed sitting outside on the patio and watching the Belmont Shore life. I live literally down the block and will come here again soon for sure! All day happy hour too OMG!

SUSHIIIIISAURUSSSS! I love this place! and you’re probably wondering why I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5… My roommate and I found this place upon living in LB, and we could not get over one particular roll! THE49er ROLL!!! If you’re a fan of them from before and you know this roll, I hope you were just as sad and BUMMED as we were when they CHANGED the roll topping!!! It used to be this amazing tomato-y salsa-y pickled topping with soy paper instead of seaweed goodness. I’m sorry sushi saurus, but that roll made you guys(at least for my roommate and I and our undying love for that particular roll). The first time we ever went there we had the 49er roll and raspberry sake that was awesome! Made especially for us, by our awesome server :) I love how their service caters to your wants and if they don’t have what you are looking for then they try and come up with their own swing to it!!! Now THAT is customer service! 5STARS! BUTSERIOUSLY, I recommend that original roll back!!! PLEASSSEEE! lol I’ve definitely tried other rolls, miso soup, tempura, etc. but I can get that anywhere! This was your signature roll for us, and now that it’s gone, our mouth-watering tastebuds for it are dead! Thank Sushi Saurus, we’ll be back to visit, but not as often as we hoped when the thought and taste of sushi comes to our pallet.

My grubbing buddy & I agreed that every other time we go for sushi, we would try a new place. So this time was the new place. We had seen Sushi Saurus a few times we had gone to sushi down the street. Seeing that they offer«happy hour all day» was a plus. The big question was is it good sushi? There was few tables available outside and we much prefer to sit outside than inside for the people watching. There was no hostess/host to seat us so we grabbed a table outside. When the server finally came out to bring something to the loud obnoxious table next to us, she acknowledged that we were there but looked annoyed that we seated ourselves. She brought over menus and asked for our drink order. When I told her raspberry iced tea, I got a «sure» with tone & attitude. Really? I realize it was Memorial Day weekend, but it’s not my fault you’re co-workers called out sick before you and you had to actually work. My buddy ordered 3 or 4 different rolls. I ordered 3 types of sushi, 3 hand rolls and 1 specialty roll. My sushi came out first. The fish looked dry and not fresh. It still tasted OK but fresh is what will keep me coming back. Strike 2.(Strike 1 was the attitude with the drink order). It took a while for the rolls to come out after that… My buddy seemed pretty happy with the rolls he picked. He did not seem to have any complaint about any of them. They do not have the spare rib roll that he loves from the other place down the street, but we know every place has different specialty rolls. I ordered the Beach roll, despite the cream cheese, and it really wasn’t very good. Cream cheese just does not belong in a sushi roll. If they had left out the cream cheese, I think this roll would’ve been pretty good. The hand rolls I ordered came out last. They were either using old seaweed or they left the lid off the holder. The seaweed should be crisp and not tough to bite through. This made eating the hand roll messy, not to mention that they stuff their hand rolls with too much. I’m sure we all want to get our money’s worth but I don’t need or want my hand roll stuff so full that the seaweed wrapper is tearing apart. At least we can check this place off our«gotta try it «list. Not really sure if I will be going back. My buddy said he likes the place though.

I love sushi and its been really hard for me to be pleased by a sushi restaurant here in The US, i can only find pricey ones and not good. This place has the best tempura rolls ever and they have the sauce that i like which is somewhat similar to the teriyaki one but i cannot remember the name of it. Service is good, the girl was quiet but really nice. We seated outside and the had the happy hour with 20% off. REALLYGOOD, im so happy i found this place!

Came here on a random Tuesday night for their :“happy hour”. Although it was a hh, the prices were still relatively high with the exception of some beer(sapporo $ 3/pint). The sushi was below average, just like most of the other sushi places in long beach. The korean owner was a nice dude though. He gave us a complimentary freshly fried fish while we were there. I Love this place. The food is great and the chefs are really friendly, if you go try to get Brian to be your sushi chef. He is always willing to just whip you up something random if you ask him. As for those who do not eat sushi, the meats as well as vegetarian items which are on the menu are very good to try. The wait staff at times can be a little slow but, for the most part they are very friendly, engaging and more than willing to answer questions if you have any about the food. The music in the place at times can make you feel like you are at a party which on a Friday and Saturday night can get you ready for the evening. While on the days the bigger sports games are on they have those playing as well. I encourage everyone to try this place at least once, so far none of my friends have been disappointed.

I tried this place out with my gf and it was a first for the both of us. It seemed like your typical sushi spot so we decided to try it out. The service was decent and the food was okay. Nothing great, but the price was decent during HH. We decided to try out the tuna sushi(maguro), monkey bomb, jalapeño bomb, and the shrimp tempura. The tuna was not the best, but for the price it’s reasonable. The monkey bomb was interesting. Fake crab meat stuffed into a mushroom and deep fried. The flavor was pretty good. The jalapeño bomb is tuna and cream cheese stuffed into a jalapeño and deep fried. I like the heat that came off of the jalapeño. The shrimp tempura was cooked perfectly and tasted good. Overall I might stop by here once in a while if I’m in the area.

2 stars for the quality of the fish and a few other ingredients — I’ve had fresher, and I’ve also had worse. 2 stars for the staff’s confusion and forgetfulness regarding my simple, 2 item order during a time when they clearly weren’t busy. 5 stars for the fact that they are trying Really, Really Hard to compensate for the above faults. I’ve never had a roll come to my table so quickly as that«Fresh» roll, and rarely so nicely presented. I thought my server’s attitude was great even though she was clearly new and undertrained. That kind of thing goes a long way with me. 4 stars for the«happy hour» prices which, incidentally, last all day. Does that average out to about 3 stars? I think so… math was never my strong suit. Yeah, Sushi Saurus is just alright with me. This place made for an okay lunch. The fish wasn’t bad, although not the freshest I’ve ever had. Altogether, SS well deserves its 3 star Unilocal rating.

They’ve changed a bit over the years. for better or worse. While I miss the old days when I first came here, they’ve updated a few things, and kept some classics on board. First off, the décor is more upscale. Gone is the neon piping and the krazy karaōke korner. Aww, shucks. But it has a contemporary rustic vibe with lots of wood and clean lines, and a Where’s Waldo-esque mural straight outta feudal japan.(Watch out for the fisherman in the diaper-wait, what’s a fundoshi?) The servers are nice, but then, they always have been. The new crop is cutesier and younger(or maybe I’m older? Say it ain’t so), but they’re still as courteous and amenable as ever. The menu is tweaked a bit too, and I dunno if the prices are better, but they have a lunch special /happy hour block that helps. Not sure if it’d be worth it go otherwise. It’s a lil hit and miss, and as much as I miss their sashimi bowl lunches, they havent given up on the tried-and-true Stinky Roll. It’s the only reason you need to come here. Cali roll topped with Albacore, onions and garlic butter. Man oh man, a modern classic.

Unilocalers get one right… me and my special friend KW stopped in after she convinced me sushi was better than mediocre BBQ(Lucille’s, I was craving some pulled pork). Guess what? She was wrong… mediocre BBQ does beat mediocre sushi. We had not read any reviews before, after an hour walk through the neighborhood and beach area(a gorgeous day BTW), we stopped in at this complete definition of meh establishment. The prices are awesome at happy hour and the fact they do it 12 – 6 is outstanding. Just wish the sushi was any good… the HH versions of california roll and spicy tuna roll were presented in a nice way but lacked any real flavor… the gyoza’s, also an HH item, were flavorless… some other roll or appetizer which I now forgot was flavorless… KW said the HH Chardonnay was flavorless… and then the final item, a non-HH Spicy Cajun Tuna roll was… wait for it, wait for it… flavorless. In fact, I may not have even got what I ordered considering there was absolutely no hint of cajun anything in the sauce on the fish that topped the roll. And that is where the real amusement is… the service. Asking us what we wanted to drink before handing us menu’s…forgetting every single time I wanted a refill that I had ordered a diet pepsi… not refilling the water… bringing the rolls before the appetizers… telling us we could sit anywhere then not cleaning up the table we wanted for ten minutes(we cleaned it ourselves)…forgetting several times what we had ordered. But, it was a beautiful summer day so we really didn’t care… it was just amusing the ineptitude. But wait! Don’t order yet, there is more! Yep, the douchebag trio(one whipped«male» and two clueless girls) that tied up their dog next to us. At first, the young male asked nicely, since we were next to the outdoor railing, if they could tie their dog to the railing next to us. We both said sure because we love animals and the puppy was really cute. In fact, people passing by kept saying how beautiful the dog was and complimenting us. We just pointed to the people whose dog it really was and said it was theirs, don’t thank us. But he was really cute, we petted him and talked to him for most of our lunch because he was a bit nervous. The cute pooch stayed really close to me especially. Maybe the dog owners didn’t like that… or maybe they didn’t like the fact we were jokingly giving him new names… but as we left the dog owners didn’t say one word to us. Not thanks for minding their dog, or letting him stay next to us, or anything. In fact, the two girls both acted like they were ticked off at us. WTF??? We let you tie your dog next to us, keep him company for an hour, make sure he isn’t scared, talk to all the 2nd street walkers who said he was cute and you are such an inconsiderate group of Gen Y’ers that you don’t even say thank you!!! Like Andrew Bynum stealing handicapped parking spaces, the entitlement nature of too many young people is really getting annoying. Oh wait, I’m starting to sound like an old man telling people to turn down the music and get off my lawn. Nevermind :)

I wanted to like Sushi Saurus much more than I actually did. After enduring an epic FAIL trying to head out to the Red Bull Flugtag, my friend TD and I ended up wandering 2nd Street looking for a good place to eat. We came across Sushi Saurus and figured it was ‘healthier’ than some of the options we had passed. I opted for the bento box luncheon and packed my bento with pork katsu, a salad as opposed to rice, and a side of the spicy tuna roll. The bento also came with miso soup, one lone fried dumpling, and one drumstick of fried chicken — a very odd combination. I can tell you right now, my stomach was not happy with me after that meal. My friend was intrigued by the«California Wok and Roll» — chicken teriyaki on top of a California roll. He never imagined it would be a full hot mess of sauteed chicken teriyaki and veggies dumped on top of a California roll and smothering its existence. He said the flavors were good but it wasn’t what he expected. The patio area was nice, which was a redeeming factor. I had a very refreshing iced green tea but the waitress ended up pouring water into my glass before I had even finished my tea — no refill there. Overall, not my best sushi experience as the food didn’t sit well with my stomach, but not exactly the worst either.
