Such an odd mix, this pub. Looks exactly like a hotel lobby. Food is very good with table service inside although this isn’t very reliable, best to go up to the bar to order. Menu looks like a chain pub but the food certainly isn’t. Burgers and steaks are very juicy and nice, the mixed grill is epic. Chips were good one visit, not good the next. Also clientele is a real mix too. Dodgy geezers, old couples, young folk, footballers wives types, laaaads. Really bizarre but there is so much room, they can all have their own space.

Cleaner, brighter and friendlier than in the past, but still a bit old school for my taste. The garden is nice but not much atmosphere at this pub as it is divided by so many walls.

Located in Hove nest to the cricket ground this is a place that’s hard to fault yet hard to rave about. Its large size is an attraction, as the only times you won’t get a seat are either after a cricket match or when they’re showing a major sporting event on the TV. Due to its standard drinks selection and rather pubish food I wouldn’t recommend The Sussex Cricketer for anything other than a casual visit. The best thing for me is the massive beer garden, which is great in summer although often quite busy. I’d finish by saying it’s an above average pub with great facilities but aspirations higher than its potential.

Although it’s located next to Hove Cricket Ground, The Sussex Cricketer is a popular pub for cricket fans and non fans alike. It’s a large place with a high customer turnover that manages to maintain a decent atmosphere: never rowdy or dull. As it gets rather busy on weekends I’d recommend booking a table if you’re looking to eat, however, I wouldn’t visit for the food. Whilst it’s not bad the grub is distinctively pubbish, in a bad way. At most I’d order something like cheesy chips to go with a pint. With a standard selection of drinks there’s also nothing particularly exciting for the avid ale or wine drinker. For me its main attraction is the large beer garden out back, which makes it very good for summer drinking. Despite my slightly negative review I’d recommend the place for casual drinking or even for catching the sport, as the multiple TV screens mean you’ll always be able to see a screen. Good prices and a large capacity make The Sussex Cricketer a decent pub for the casual occasion.

Right next to Hove Cricket Ground, home of Sussex CCC. This makes a convenient choice for a quick pint if you’re off to a cricket match, but it can be a decent choice for a drink even if you’re not. A traditional looking pub inside, it’s nothing special inside, but it’s comfortable and clean. The garden is lovely, with lots of space to relax in, unlike many pub gardens in this city. They do a reasonably food menu too, with good value pub food available. If, like me, you like fireworks but are short on cash, the garden here is a great place to watch the annual fireworks display in the cricket ground, which is one of the best around.

I love the Sussex Cricketer! always enjoy the food here be it a snack or full on meal. They have a great quiz and great promotions for food every week. The garden is lovely and gets a lotsof sun — so its good for a good days drinking or a relax too. Can get very busy on a cricket day(obviously) but just adds to the atmosphere!

Used to like going there but not any more. The staff member that threw out a pregnant woman should be sacked, it was none of her business!

One the larger pubs in the area. It’s located on the grounds of the Sussex Cricket Club and if cricket is your thing(it isn’t mine) then this pub is well worth a visit. It does attract a healthy stream of cricket fans and non cricket fans so if you could care less about cricket this could still be the pub for you. On the weekends it can get very boisterous which usually makes for an entertaining evening.

I had a terrible meal here. I was out with a party of three. I had a steak and ordered it rare. It cam out without the slightest hint of pink it was so overcooked. It tasted like rubber so I sent it back to the kitchen. They brought out another steak that wasn’t really any better so I made do. My friend ordered salmon and received chicken. I not quite sure what happened there but the kitchen was in so much chaos that she ended up eating the chicken. This place is only any good on bonfire night when you can sit in their beer garden with a pint and enjoy the firework display at the cricket ground.

Situated next to the Sussex County Cricket ground in Hove, the Sussex Cricketer is a large, modern pub which has been recently refurbished inside. The interior is large and has plenty of nooks and corners in which to sit, around a large central bar. The décor’s not particularly exciting or characterful, but it’s comfortable enough, and you can almost always find a seat(cricket match days excepted). There’s a very nice beer garden out the back in summer. They usually serve a range of real ales,(though sometimes only one or two are on) and decent, very reasonably priced bar food. The pub is fully accessible to wheel-chair users.
