It’s hidden away but worth seeking out. If you are walking out the back of Tesco’s then do yourself a favour and stop in for a swift half.

My boyfriend and I popped in yesterday for lunch on an off chance really. We definitely don’t regret going in! The gent at the bar was lovely, very outgoing and seemed fun, the regulars weren’t the type who’d glare at you for daring to enter their pub and the burgers we had were great, the bean burger was amazing and the corn on the cob they serve with the burgers, though small, is heavenly. Best I’ve ever tasted! Certainly worth visiting here if you want good pub food, we intend on going back!

The bell is a bit of a gem tucked away in Belfast Street next to the Tesco super market on Church road. It would be hard to find a pub in Brighton with a more friendly and welcoming air. There is a healthy crop of locals who are all open and talkative, so even if like me you do pop in on your own to sample some of their fine selection of real ales you will tend to soon find yourself as comfortable and at home as you would in your local. There are few weekly highlights to this place as well such as Monday night Wii sessions and a refreshingly varied open Mic night on Tuesday. The geography of the bell is pleasant and convenient too. On the way in you pass a few picnic benches which make an ideal spot for a summer evening pint after work, then you enter through a front door in the corner of the pub that brings you directly into the bar. To your left are the loos and through to the right you have a functions type of room where the open night is held. Beyond that there is even a beer patio and covered smoking area. The whole set up has something more of the feel of a spacious front room with great earthy décor and a fine selection of seating. I would strongly suggest popping in if you’re ever in the area.

What a lovely pub indeed! I was walking down Blatchington Road and happened to glance to my right and noticed a little pub nestled down Belfast Street so popped in for a pint. The Bell is Owned by a chap called Bertie Burton who unfortunately wasn’t there when I popped in but the friendly barmaid said he’s a real character. The first thing I noticed was the great selection of real ales(Harveys, Bombadier, Tim Taylor and Summer Lighting) and then I saw a plate of food being wisked out to a customer; a plate of bubble and squeak, smokey bacon, poaced egg and hollandaise. Made my mouth water. I’m popping back on Sunday for their slow roasted pork belly(not bad at £7.25) and then possibly for a game of Wii on Monday night.
