I really loved this pub. I came here for Sunday lunch with my family and the service was really friendly. The food(mains) were good but not amazing, but the desert(caramel banana french toast JOY) was absolutely fabulous which is what brought up the star rating to a 4 not a 3. We did feel a bit rushed but it was a Sunday and they did need us out(even though we had 15 minutes until the next seating). Generally a lovely pub with lovely staff. Would like an option to have a starter/main or main/desert for a joint price but otherwise it was decent. I will go back.

Good honest pub grub … this is a popular place so can get busy, and the staff are clearly rushed off their feet sometimes. They do a great job at trying to keep everything in order. Sunday roasts are great and also the fish and chips :)(Get mushy peas!) Also great garden in the summer, nice suntrap you can sit there for a long time enjoying the sun and beer :-O

If you can overlook the hit or miss service, you’ll probably enjoy Hove Place. On our recent visit, there was no one to greet us, so we wandered over to the bar where the bartender advised us to sit anywhere inside and someone would attend to us or, we could have a seat outside in the garden area and bring our order to him when ready. We initially chose the garden area which, while it could have been nice, was full of tables with dirty dishes and a large rowdy crowd so we moved back inside. No one seemed to notice us sitting inside so we placed our order with the bartender — a quite pleasant fellow. A pretty good selection of beer on tap to accompany our meal — the traditional Fish and Chips. The fish and chips was fabulous! The mushy peas were… I don’t know. I hate peas. Overall, I certainly enjoyed my meal and would re-visit if I’m ever in the area again.

Lovely looking pub, gorgeous garden but the food has really taken a turn for the worst despite lots of people raving about it. Menu looks really posh but didn’t want any of it, bar menu/burgers were really average, and their breakfast was just weird. Home made baked beans were not cooked, weird sausage, bacon not well cooked. Good black pudding though. Really did not enjoy my birthday breakfast there!

Its OK but I think anything is ok compared to the Blind Busker A few pretend wannabees and pseuds but otherwise ok If crowded its intlolerable Place at lunchtime where a few council people come and they are unlikely to beat anyone up. Cheers

Hove Place is a curious pub. It’s tucked away downstairs in a building off the main drag in Hove. It does seem a little eccentric but it’s rather good. It’s also certainly better than some of the rathe chavvy pubs in the vicinity. The plush bars are comfortable and the staff are friendly. They have got a well stocked bar with a good rack of beers, including some real ales. Especially pleasant is the very large and well kept garden, which is an unusual feature in the city centre. The garden is a good place to chill on a summer evening. You feel tucked away from the bustle. I like a bit of calm.

My brother lives about three feet from Hove Place, so on a most lazy of days, we ventured in for food and a pint of something hoppy. I didn’t hold out too much hope judging from the outside; while tasteful, Hove Place looks a tad boring and old fashioned. However, once inside, you are greeted with a warm décor; varnished wooden tables and a recent paint job make it a particularly pleasant spot. For a main course I had a classic dish of burger and chips, which I would certainly eat again with no complaints. Also pleasingly, the pub runs a buy one get one free offer on main meals. This meant our food only came to about £4.50 each.

Hove Place used to be my local, when I still lived in Hove, and it’s one of my favourite places to sit, drink and be merry until well into the night. I don’t go much anymore: it is a little far away, but will always have a special place in my heart. With loads of great wine, ale on tap, far too good to be pub food and a huge, opulent Italian garden out the back, there is something for everyone here. Take the trip, Hove Place is well worth a long evening whiled away. Hove Place’s big selling point is its beautiful Italian gardens, and they are spectacular. Full of greenery and marble statues, you perch on patio furniture and under gas heaters as the light fades, in the shade of a couple of big trees nearby if it’s a little too hot. These gardens are beautiful, quiet, and often empty on a weekday evening: another hot-spot recommendation! Beyond the beautiful garden, Hove Place is also a particular good place to go if you like your pub drinks and food a little more… cultured. The wine selection is very good, as are the ales on tap, although there is lager for the less snobbish. The food is often some bizarrely posh-sounding meal, normally with select ingredients, and the chef seems to take perverse pleasure in serving pub guests relatively high dining. Strange, but well worth sitting down and tucking into: it is all to a very high standard. I think Hove Place appeals to me so much because it is ever so slightly snobbish, just like me! If that appeals to you, you can’t go wrong here, make the journey: you won’t be disappointed.
