Having followed cricket at international level — on the tv at least — but having never been to a county game, I decided it was about time I set that right. We went to a 20⁄20 match over the summer, and it was a lovely, relaxed experience, if a little drunken! Unlike football matches, it’s possible to drink pitchside here. Unfortunately, this also means that it’s difficult to keep your mind on the action, was you can end up a little booze addled!

I watched a couple of 2020 cricket matches here and both times I had a cracking time. However, I went understanding what was going on so it is important just to do your homework first. In recent years cricket has been trying to attract more people so they have been setting rules which keeps the game from being too slow but the odd game can still be boring much like any other sport. Tickets for most games are much cheaper than most football tickets plus with a team that won 2 trophies last year and were runners up in 1 the time is right to jump on board the band wagon. I agree with Mike if you get the right people and have a few bevvies, you will no doubt have a good time here and a different type of experience.

I’d never entertained the idea of watching live cricket before the 2005 Ashes but since then I’ve tried to go at least once a year. Some might think that watching a day’s cricket is a boring idea but if you’re with the right people I assure you it can be a real laugh. Get drunk, shout a few insults and occasionally jump around in adulation. What more could you want? Sussex County Cricket Club is the home of the notorious Sussex Sharks and plays host to numerous games during the cricket season. Tickets are usually £5 for juniors, £10 for students and £15 for adults but prices vary depending on the competition. As the Sussex Sharks are the current holders of the Twenty20 cup, it’s the perfect place to watch some entertaining, high-quality cricket. Whether or not you’re new to the game, I’d recommend at least one visit.
