Van Velze’s is located on a charming street just off one of the many water ways in town & just a few blocks or so from the Museum district. We were quite glad the find VV, but sorry to discover that the shop is not set up for those to enjoy their newly purchased bounty in house. VV is strictly a ‘take-away” type affair. One finds at VV truffles galore, bars a-plenty, broken bits of chocolate sold in 100 gram increments and lovely gateaux. I think I spied the last of a ganache on our visit. The owner is a very friendly sort who chats easily with patrons about his product. In short, he cares. The cacao is sustainably sourced from a single farm in Costa Rica & one sees that the owner takes pride in maintaining a solid relationship with the farmers. The truffle selection is varied with flavours including Guinness & Fruit Cake – yes, *that* Fruit Cake – and we were keen to try many of them. Among our selection were Fennel, Tonka Bean and Coffee. The coffee was dense and rich. –a sure-fire hit among espresso lovers. The tonka bean beauty is a must-try, especially for those who live in the USA, where use of the tonka bean has been banned by the FDA. I think ingesting a tonne of tonka may cause cancer in lab rats, so, humans, beware! The fennel was quite mild in flavour and those who have a real yen for fennel/anise/licorice will probably be left wanting. Chocolate fans: do plan a visit to Van Velze’s when in A’dam! Also: check out VV’s website for ordering goodies online. :)

Fine quality chocolate with an amazing taste! All the chocolate is imported by the shop owner from the same chocolate farm and rainforest alliance certified. The chocolate shop has a large variety of delicious pralines with fillings like vanilla, caramel and sea salt and many more. Yummy! In short this shop is heaven for chocolate lovers! Cake lovers can also buy home made cake(in Dutch taart), which is probably as amazing as the chocolate.

Even better when you get to make your own! Spent a terrific evening trying my hand at being a chocolatier. Had a great time learning about the delicious chocolate they use here and how to make bonbons and enjoying the company. Deborah and Robbert are terrific hosts! If you are looking for a great place to buy chocolate, this is the place! Will be back for sure to buy some professionally made chocolates!

I have only eaten the chocolate, though the patisserie looks absolutely FANTASTIC and a work of art, but I can say that the chocolate is gooooooood. And yes, as Jessica wrote, the women who work in the front are really friendly.

Really good chocolates, and cakes, too! Cozy spot to sit and read and feel pampered, or to pick up some chocolate for a nice gift. The woman who’s usually out front is super nice. You can often watch her man and/or his father making chocolates through the window into the kitchen.
