My favorite Ethi place in Amsterdam! It takes some time for the food to be made, but once it comes out, you forget all those lonely moments waiting around… and dive into the big plate head first! Last time, we tried of course the party platter but added Foufou and Somalian red beef… both were super delicious, but the Somalian red beef was my overall favorite, so make sure you get that!

Having any meal at this place is certainly quite an experience. Nicely decorated in African style and with a tasty(also very spicy sometimes) Ethiopian cousine. If it is your first time there make sure to order the Ibis special, and I am sure one will serve two persons pretty well. Unless you are a big eater. What I liked the most is the concept on how you eat. They serve their dishes in a big aluminium round plate and you are supposed to eat it with your hands. There are some sort of «pancakes»(they call them injera) that you actually use as your«cutlery». Well, at least I did :-). I will never be able to describe it properly so you should go and give it a try. Another thing I liked a lot was the flavoured beers. The banana one was quite good. The staff is friendly and during summer they have a terrace that you can just eat enjoying the Amstel view.

Massive metal platters laced with spongy bread slowly soaking up the african flavors packed in small piles of different colored mush that lies atop. THIS is what keeps me coming back to one of my favorite cuisines ever — Ethiopian. After having tasted various Ethiopian in Amsterdam with experiences ranging from mehhhhh to aiiiight, I must admit that Ibis is so far my favorite. Why? At Ibis, I can still enjoy eating my favorite lentils, chunks of lamb in berber sauce, raw ground beef, steamed veggies while scooping them up like fish in a net with my injera webbed fingers. But what I REALLY enjoy from Ibis are the dishes outside of traditional Ethiopian cuisine. We ordered a Samolian dish with lamb in red sauce over rice and Foufou which is a west African dish with meat in sauce over foufou(you’ll have to wiki that one as I can’t explain it). Those two dishes lit my world on fire! If you’ve never had Ethio food before, definitely get the Ibis Platter, but make sure to share it with someone. Ethio main dishes are for sure for two people even though they don’t say. And if you’ve had Ethio before but not Samolian or west-african, get those platters. They all come on injera with all the sides, so you can’t go wrong! Oh and the spicy cheese with kale appetizer… NOMNOMNOM! The only problem with this place is that for € 15 – 20, I had 3 beers, appetizers and ate myself silly! I would like to come here daily, however, I would become a fatty honey boo boo child in no time making it so ironic that I always overeat as if it was a reflection of my greed and gluttonous ways when it comes to Ethio food!

This place is amazing! I went here last night while I had been having a stomach ache for a couple of days. It’s almost gone today so I guess that’s a good sign :-) The food was great. Typical Ethiopian style with the pancakes. We ordered the cheese as a starter(the one with kale is really good) followed by the vegetarian special with loads of different dishes. Great taste, quality, plenty of food and for a great price. The desserts looked amazing but we had no more room unfortunately! Service is friendly. One suggestion: it’s okay to come and ask if we want another drink!
