Great place for food! We had the opportunity to visit on a beautiful sunny, warm day and sat outside on their many outdoor patio tables. This place is located on a perfectly energetic semi-busy street with many passersby. Great place to people watch and just enjoy the beauty and relaxing life of an Amsterdam local. I ordered the Gorgonzola pastrimi and not only was it a great reasonable price, but it was so heavenly! If you are not an avid fan of Gorgonzola I would not recommend going for this sandwich, but they pack on the cheese like it’s nobody’s busy. Luckily for me I’m a huge fan so it was very delicious.

When approaching this place from a distance I though I was looking forward to having some kind of chocolate surprise, what else to expect with such at name? While looking at their menu I realized there wasn’t any chocolate at all on it??? But I was a bit hungry and so I decided to enter this ‘Fata Morgana’. Once inside I wished I was outside again. The entourage looked a bit ‘fake fancy’ and it is clear that they do not have any idea of what to make of this place, furniture wise. Maybe they should have focussed on chocolate after all ;) As for the food… I ordered a meatball sandwich and it tasted terrible. Or to be honest, I wish it tasted ‘terrible’, since it did not have any taste at all! Brrr. what a waste of appetite. And also the staff do not deserve any stars. We were seated across the bar, in plain sight of the people who were working there. When I went to the bar to pay the bill, they asked ‘where were you seated again?’… well… straight in front of you for about 45 minutes! Another #fail. So, tell me… where can I find a real chocolate bar next time?

Nice little bar with a good menu. People are very friendly, free wifi but you have to log and like Facebook to access. Outdoor sitting is available along with a small bar area. Not a lot of beers but they do have a full bar.

Plot twist: there is no chocolate here. So don’t be deceived by its name. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the laid back and cozy atmosphere in this bar. I heard that it can get pretty crowded here, but my visit on a Monday night gave us all the time and privacy to simply enjoy our drinks and talks. Try and take a seat at the lounge in the back.

This a cozy little restaurant in a busy restaurant location among many other restaurants and bars. It’s quite laid back. The interior is decorated nicely. I had a burger that was just okay though the presentation was nice. There didn’t seem to be even a hint of chocolate anywhere near here so I was a little confused as the the restaurants name.

I had only been here for drinks and wanted to give their food a try. We decided to have lunch here today and tried the tuna melt and surinaamse kip sandwiches. I enjoyed my tuna melt. My bf didn’t like his so much because he said it lacked flavor. So of course I had to try it. I agree, it needed either more flavor in the chicken or some sort of sauce, even some mayo would have been nice. Just a dry sandwich :( We kind of had two servers helping us. One could just not be bothered by us or anyone for that matter. The other was friendly. Bottom line, I’m willing to give this place another try! It was a dang good thing my tuna melt had lots of jalapeños in it which I loooove! I need something to make me want to come back!

Stumbled upon Chocolate Bar by accident, the outdoor seating area seemed cosy enough, heaters blasting on full, as it was a cold night. Still we decided to sit inside, where there was also a laid back atmosphere. The residential cat, whose name shall remain unknown, occupied one of the seats of the high table area, which made us feel at home immediately. We went for the paella and tuna steak, both were OK, but had a lot of garlic. The tuna steak was very well done, which is kind of sad, as it took away ask the goodness of the tuna. The desserts on the other hand were quite good, ands a bit unexpected, I had a lemon ice /wodka cocktail, and my friend has a chocolate dessert, which she said was«the best she ever tasted». We ended with a cocktail, which to me were a bit disappointing again. There was no mint in my Mojito, instead, a few slices of lemon. The taste was super sweet, and I suspected it to be the ready made Mojito that Bacardi sells. The bartender promised me it was freshly made… doubtful though All in all, 3 stars. Food OK, desserts very good, don’t go there for the cocktails, but do go there for the atmosphere!

Located in a neighborhood with many restaurant and bar options, I finally got around to Chocolatebar this past Saturday evening. It’s cozy inside, small’ish but plenty of seating in the front + an entire lounge’y area in the back with more seating options. I like the colors and the lighting. Service was friendly and the snacks were yummy. Neat crowd of people and great music. I’ll definitely be back.

Service is very friendly yet a bit clumsy. Steak was poor, maybe better luck with fish…

This place is on my list of favorites for nightlife in Amsterdam. The Chocolate Bar in the Depijp is a bar/restaurant. It’s a cool place to be if your looking for a spot that is hip and cool. A Dutch friend about a year ago had introduce me to this trendy bar and it’s been my spot to meet up with friends ever since. This is the spot if you want to grab a drink, hear good music and be in atmosphere of upbeat people, which means(happy people who want to have fun). Here you can drink, eat and enjoy some great tunes. From time to time they display unique art that is definitely worth purchasing on the back wall. One of their paintings I completely loved that they had a few months ago reminded me of my Mayan ancestors from Belize. Friday and Saturday nights the DJ comes out to rock the house, so the music can get a little loud on those days.
