They claim to be the place that invented Roti Boom. I’m not sure how true this statement is but their roti boom sure is delicious! You have to order a minimum to 2, I believe and it is served with a side of curry or dhal. I personally like to order some separate dishes to eat with my roti boom, usually their mutton/beef kheema which I love. I have had their garlic naan too and it’s pretty good. They have an extensive drinks menu too with various fresh juices available including apple, orange and watermelon. Now, the prices here are on the higher side so don’t be too shocked when you get your bill. I’m wondering if the high rices is due to the fact that this particular neighbourhood has a lot of expats, being so close to ISKL? They have also recently launched a Weekend Buffet where for RM5 per person you get to eat as much as you can from(apparently) 15 types of dishes. I haven’t tried it yet though, so can’t comment on that. Anyway, there are other stalls here under the same roof, one of the more famous ones being Satay Zaini. He sure is famous for a reason! His beef satay is so good. I can eat like 10 sticks on my own, no joke. But the wait for the satay stall can get pretty crazy(like more than half an hour to tapau 12 sticks). One thing about this place that I love is their sink for patrons to wash hands has so many choices of handsoap. This may seem like a weird thing to get excited about, but having been to restaurants where there isn’t ANY soap at all, actually having a choice of soaps is pretty neat.

What’s really good at Naan Corner? Roti boom! Well, of course, the naan here is pretty good too — my friend loves the cheese naan here. But my personal favorite is the roti boom which is RM0.50 for one — you have to order in 2s. Besides that, the nasi lemak kukus is also definitely worth trying. If you are in the mood for noodles, the fried mee/mee hoon is yums! My family and I usually come here for supper. Okay now, for some not-so-good — I didn’t like their mee rebus and also, when my brother ordered fish n chips(RM12), he got that kind of «fish» — please refer to picture. Such disappointment! However, when my brother asked the waittress, she said that they don’t usually do that, but fresh fish is hard to find at the moment — so I would suggest you ask about this before ordering. Also, the parking here can be quite difficult, especially on weekends. However, I would still recommend this place because not just their food and drinks are mostly good, but the setting of this place is actually quite nice! The service here is also generally okay or as their tagline goes, «We give fast service, no matter how long it takes!»

This place is my all time favorite place for naan’s and roti boom. They claim to be the people who started roti boom all the way back in the 80’s. Now i don’t know this for a fact but their roti booms are definitely the best that i’ve had. The naan is yummy too, my favorite is the garlic naan. To me right, naan is only as good as the curry you have it with and naan corner serves super yummy and thick dhal that you cannot have enough of(we always end up asking for a second bowl). On weekends during dinner time its really a full house and food can take up to 40mins to be served, its worth the wait though! Prices are obviously very good although i’ve heard people say that naan corner is too pricey. I tend to disagree with this statement. I like naan corner cause its clean and comfortable, you can sit there chit chatting even after your meal because its just a nice place to be at. Dim lighting, clean tables and floors and a big seating area. I do however think that their drinks aren’t that great. Very diluted and way to much ice, also it’s pretty pricey for just a teh o ais limau.

If you are in Ampang Jaya and driving around you may have seen the very famous sign on Jalan Kerja Air Lama for Naan Corner. This is a local place that is mostly Malay. Over the years other restaurants have begun to sort of latch onto the original Naan Corner. Now, there is a little food village at this location. You can find all kinds of Malay favorites. Satay, Ikan Bakar, Tom Yam Kwey Teow, and roti chani are all quite popular here. The Naan, not surprisingly, is also quite good. The local prices at this place are also pretty hard to beat. During Ramadan they have huge buffets and specials going. This place gets packed and is very popular with the locals. My only problem with this place is a pretty major one. I have found to not be very welcome at this place depending on who is working and where I sit. I don’t know if they are super friendly to ex-pats. Maybe they just don’t like my face but I can’t say that I have ever felt super welcome at this place and I know other friends that have had similar experiences.

The place where Roti Boom originated from, which was way back in the early 80’s! In case you dont know Roti Boom is mini version of Roti Canai(pratha bread) only its thicker and flakier. Im a huge fan of Roti Boom and can have about 5 of them in one seating(i kid you not). Roti Boom is usually accompanied by a side dish of gravy such as chicken curry, fish curry or dhal. However for some enjoy it with a side of sugar or honey. Besides Roti Boom, Naan Corner is known for its other foods such as chicken tandoori, naan bread, their spread of gravies, variety of fried rice, satey and the list goes on. Naan Corner is also a pretty popular place for muslims to break fast, with only a fee of RM28 one would be able enjoy a delicious buffet spread. However be sure to call and make bookings especially if you are planning to come in big groups. Oh yes warong or no warang this place gets very crowded during ramadhan.

Ramadan month is just around the corner. I’m definitely visiting Nan’s again. Last year, my mother brought me there to break fast. As I stepped out of the car, I understood why my mother wanted to come all the way to Ampang to have dinner. The scent from all the different kinds of dishes is enough to leave in a state of aromatic trance. Unfortunately just by standing at the entrance you can see how packed and cramped the place is. We however were prepared. We called days before to reserve a table in anticipation of the massive crowd. The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully for the festive month. Ramadan month is when they open up a long buffet table filled with 100 different choices of local dishes. It varies so much that you wouldn’t even know where to begin. You would just grab plates of mountains of food. All because you can! It is the ideal way to break fast. Mountains of food, gigantic size drinks and mouth watering local deserts. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get to try every dish, but from the abundance of dishes I did manage to try. Perhaps the only demurring fact was the access of parking. You might have to wait for a few minutes for a spot. But other than that, everything was sublime.
