We rented a condo here for a week. I have two good points… proximity to the beach and the beautiful pools and grounds. The Padre Island Rentals that handled our rental was awful! They were rude and full of silly rules especially since it was NOT spring break and almost all families there. The security guards were rude and on power trips like the other review pointed out. We wanted a family vehicle that was staying at another location to follow us in and pick up their beach chairs and they wouldn’t let them and threatened to not let us in either because we were rude. The condo was nice but not clean! We had hair in the shower, sand on the floor and even dirty sheets on one bed when we arrived… oooooo! Also no tub and we had a ten month old with us! They left the cheapest paper products and only one dishwashing tablet and had no measuring tools in the Kitchen. We will NOT return!

This is an older property and even though I was told it had been renovated, the condo we stayed in was not. The jacuzzi and pool are really nice, however they have really strict hours and close right at 10pm. So don’t expect to be there after that time, there are cameras that watch this area. You have to wear a wristband if you stay here, all in your party included. The check-in process is ridiculous. You will check in at the office at one location, then get to the property and check-in with the security gaurds. They issue parking passes, you are only allowed 2 per condo, so if you need more it is $ 50/vehicle. The security here is either good or bad. I would say the fact that you have to wear wristbands lets you keep out unwanted relatives or friends. NO guests are allowed on property at all. There are many security guards watching your every move to ensure this. Some of the security gaurds here are on a power trip. One of them even threatened to have us thrown out. All because he claims he could not see my boyfriend’s wristband. Meahwhile my bf was just trying to take our daughter back to the condo to have her dirty diaper changed. But wristbands are sooo important. Some of the security staff was awesome. Roberto was super friendly and nice. They need to hire more security like him. The sofa bed was disgusting and looked like some had peed on a corner years ago. There were many light bulbs out in the condo as well. While there was good and bad points, I will say that I will never stay there again.

I took the family here for a week-long outing at the beach — potentially our last before our eldest moves out, which I wanted to be really nice and special. The good points: 1. Our condo was nice, and as advertised. 2. The pool area was attractive and enjoyable. The bad points: 1. There were a large number of security guards wandering around the site all the time. One I can understand and appreciate, but seeing three at a time made me wonder what the management was worried about. 2. Our water was turned off at random times without warning. 3. There was apparently construction going on in the adjoining unit, which resulted in us being awakened by the sounds of hammering and sawing several mornings. We did not have any indication of this when making our reservation. 4. My wife’s calls to the manager of the facility, who apparently doesn’t get in until 10:00, went unreturned until the next day. Once reached, he didn’t offer any help or redress for the inconveniences. 5. We had to go through an unlabeled construction entrance to get to the parking area we were supposed to use, and had to wake up the napping gate guard to get out one morning. I’m with Tricia: there are a lot of choices on South Padre, and one can easily find a better experience.

Back in the day, the Bahia Mar was the SPOT! The pretty pink hotel was the hot spot to go, and the condos were some of the first nicer ones on the island. I recently went there with my family for a mother’s day weekend, and boy, was I UNpleasantly suprised. Our condo was dirty and had major cracks in the wall, the grounds were not well maintained and all of the previous amenities that made it a great spot(readily available beach rentals, cool bar, etc.) were gone. It appears to be under new management and they are rude. When we first drove up, the place was guarded with plastic flags… and the security guard REFUSED to let us in because we had a TEMPORARY parking pass instead of the YELLOW colored one. Seriously? We just got there! There are so many choices on the island– I suggest you make another one.
