The Maple Parlor

We went for the first time after an early dinner. We explored and marveled at all the flavors and toppings. I had a few questions but we didn’t see an employee in the store for a good 7 minutes. She came out and seemed surprised to see us but just said a friendly hi then returned to the back of the store. My husband got 3 different flavors for base and went wild with the toppings. His least favorite was the matcha flavor. My favorite was the cashew maple. As we were eating, we kept being pleasantly surprised by the flavors. «I don’t know what was in that bite, but it was amazing!» We’ll be back!

Yay! Glad I gave Maple parlor a third chance, Vegan flavors are now on point! With fun topping choices and sauces.
I came when it first opened and a few weeks later and wasn’t all that impressed with the Vegan flavors but NOW I am and will be back many more times…

Super cute spot that offers vegan, gluten free and organic frozen yogurt made in house, desserts and drinks. I feel like I sampled nearly every flavor they had. The Lemon Coconut was amazing. You can tell that they make their own coconut milk. The Almond coffee (with real coffee!) was also very good but I ended up getting the signature maple flavor. Toppings range from candied bacon pieces to graham cracker crust. I imagine that the bacon would go really well with the maple, it seemed to be a popular combination. Definitely check this place out. It totally hit my sweet spot.

Great vegan and healthier option to the other pop-​up self serve alternatives out there.
Love the cute space and was even helped by April, the owner who was so incredibly cool and helpful to us.
The topping options were better and different than other places too — not just a bunch of gummy bears and broken candy bars.
This place is definitely a place if you love self-​soft-​serve but have more discerning tastes and even an adventurous side.

Being lactose intolerant, this place was a godsend. It’s not your typical froyo. I’ve only had the coconut soft serve but it was delish! I sprinkled it with chocolate chips, waffle cone pieces, fresh bacon, and then topped it off with lavender honey. I’d go back more often if I didn’t live so far away!

Going dairy-​free while already being gluten-​free was a painful experience. I had given up on any chance of having a transcendent frozen dessert experience altogether when I read Portland Monthly’s review of The Maple Parlor. I quickly added the Maple Parlor to my to-​do list for my next visit to my hometown of Portland. I admit, I was a bit skeptical but the proprietress, April, hails from Jade, one of my all-​time favorite Sellwood haunts, so I had hope. I should have known the MP would be nothing less than fabulous. Finding one non-​dairy option is a miracle at any fro-​yo place but the MP is an echelon above those strip mall joints dispensing sticky-​sweet piles of fake colored goo. This stuff is gourmet, and the MP has multiple non-​dairy options (coconut, beet-​strawberry — which wasn’t as bad as it sounds) and even a Paleo friendly option (chocolate banana, and it was to die for). Toppings were mostly gluten free and house made — the sesame crunchies are AMAZING, and this caramel lover just about died over the coconut caramel sauce. There was candied bacon, local berry sauce, all kinds of amazing foodie topping options. Super cute décor and friendly service rounded out the experience. Yes, it costs a little bit more than the mall rat fro-​yo, but your body and taste buds will thank you. This would make a great date night dessert stop for your vegan/​gluten-​free/​Paleo sweetie (hint, hint!) or for anyone looking for some amazing frozen confections. Thank you, April, for «Sundaes for Everyone»!

So excited that this place opened up. It’s adorable inside. The owner April is so friendly and accommodating. Everyone keeps complaining about the prices but it seems pretty normal for house made ice creams… Just pile it high!
Anyway, I was super stoked to try some different flavored vegan soft serve ice creams. Unfortunately, the coconut vanilla just tasted like coconut (which I hate), and the chocolate banana was mediocre. However, the strawberry beet ice cream was tasty! I would personally love to see more cashew based ice creams here, as cashew ice cream seems to be the creamiest and closest to dairy ice cream. I’d also love to see more flavor on the vegan/​stevia sweetened spectrum. I was kind of disappointed to have so few vegan options. I’m hoping this place can work out all of its kinks. Regardless, the strawberry beet ice cream is worth the trip!

This is my favorite ice team place in Portland! You can make your own sundays just the way you want and all the ingredients are very healthy, clean and homemade. They have gluten free, vegan, dairy and coconut ice cream options. The owner is incredibly friendly and the whole place has a mellow good feel to it.

Delicious, delightful & decadent!
My friends (who are vegan) and I decided to make a date and visit the newly opened Next Level Burger followed by dessert at TMP. We we instantly in love with the décor, service and then last but not least the amazing range of soft serve.
My friends, for once, had too many option to choose from! Their heads were spinning with the vegan options. I chose to have the Maple ice-​cream and April (the lovely owner) suggested I top it with with crushed waffle cone and cashew brittle. Heaven! I loved my experience and I cannot wait to visit again.:)

Returned for the second time tonight with my family. I got the large which was…$ 6.25 I think… and piled it high with coconut vanilla, coconut chocolate, and beet frozen yogurt. All vegan. I topped it off with olive oil (and a bunch of other stuff) and chocolate.
It was even better than the first time.
I also got to have some of the sesame balls (which I didn’t realize come from JADE BISTRO). They sold out of their balls and I got the last two. Ha! Great as usual.
Remember: You get what you pay for. At least here you do!

I really want to like this place, and maybe after working out some of their newbie kinks, it will be great.
Thoughts…
Prices seem rather high. Would rather see the price based on weight rather than size of cup like Swirl did.
Flavors — only tried the maple and it was tasty. Chocolate machine was on the fritz. Coconut was meh.
Toppings — bacon on maple ice cream? Hell yeah! But I couldn’t reach the back row of toppings without sticking my whole head under the sneeze guard. Cashew brittle tasted great but was all stuck together in one clump.
I’m afraid this will be too ‘fancy’ for the kids and won’t draw in the adults either. We’ll see. I do think I’ll lean towards Salt and Straw myself, for the price, but if the kids want to stop by again, we’ll see.

After a lot of buzz in the vegan community, I have been waiting all summer for this place to open. I am sad to report that I was very disappointed with my first visit to The Maple Parlor. I had high hopes for their vegan soft serve options. I tried a sample of each one that was available today and left without buying a bowl, so I forgot to survey the vegan toppings. My friend didn’t buy anything either after seeing my face and deciding to sample the vegan options for herself. She also thought that the place reeked of bacon, which was a real turn off. The chocolate banana flavor just tasted like cold watered down pudding. The coconut flavor tasted like a coconut water Icee, not creamy at all. The strawberry beet flavor was the most palatable of the three vegan options available today, but overly sweet sorbet wasn’t what I wanted. I hope that The Maple Parlor is able to vastly improve their vegan recipes. If I hear through the grapevine that things are better, I will go back and sample again. Otherwise, I’ll be getting my vegan soft serve at my usual spots around town.

Yummy yes. But I can’t with the pricing. $ 2.50 for a cup that is really the size of a sample cup. Pretty insulting. The $ 5 is not much better. So disappointed because my kiddos were really looking forward to it opening in our neighborhood.

Maple Parlor is not like the froyo joints! If you are looking for an artificial and preservative-​filled sugar fix, it’s not for you! They’re making really good soft-​serve from natural ingredients in-​house, with options for all kinds of customers– paleo, vegan, sugar-​free…
The sauces are delicious– think homemade Bourbon Coffee sauce rather than the cheap HFCS-​laden slime at most places. I mean, if that’s what you’re looking for there’s no shortage of places to find it, but The Maple Parlor is different because it’s better! The toppings are consistent with the concept. Toasted coconut, sesame clusters, slivered almonds… these are sundaes for people who love decadence AND real food! Keep the chemicals, I’ll have my soft-​serve here from now on!

Delicious dairy free/​vegan options! Finally, more than one «token» flavor to choose from! Unlike other fro-​yo places, the sides are thoughtfully and scrumptiously handmade: coconut fudge, cashew brittle, blueberry compote. There are even house-​made sauces to choose from like chocolate bourbon coffee syrup, lavender honey, and caramelized coconut milk. They also had more standard toppings like chocolate chips, graham crackers, and Gummi bears. The strawberry beet sorbet was surprisingly fantastic! All fro-​yo portions were labled according to their ingredients. The process was easy and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Would absolutely recommend!

Very different vibe than what you might be accustomed to from a yogurt shop. The ingredient quality matches the classy décor and understated vibe.
The Signature Maple is incredibly delicious, there’s a hint of high grade maple syrup in each bite, very different than just «maple flavored.» The coconut was good too, but a far second from the marquee flavor. They offer a small size for $ 2.50 for tasters and snackers like me.
I only tried two toppings: the off the charts yum bacon candy and a pumpkin concoction. The owner indicated that a pastry chef makes most (all?) the toppings.
The owner seems passionate about her creation and is the sort of person you root for to succeed.
If they offer warm beverages then I will think of this place as a year-​round treat and not just in Summer.

Went here last night for the first time (they just opened up). This soft serve place is WORLDS better than the fro-​yo place that was here before. The owner seems super sweet and is very open to suggestions and flavor requests. Toppings are clearly labeled as V, GF, etc., so there is no guessing… good variety of soft serve. Will definitely be back soon!

We had high hopes for this place since we loved the previous froyo shop that had been at this location. The owners are very nice and their attempt at homemade, organic and local is appreciated. My children were completely underwhelmed and said it tasted watery. The worst part is the price. We can get local and handmade ice cream at Salt and Straw, 50 Licks and Ruby Jewel (all nearby) for less. Yes, when Salt and Straw is less expensive, something is out of balance.
