20 people in line after the movie on a Saturday night. Only one girl working the other doing her closing duties. Makes no sense.

Their ice cream is delicious! A little pricey… But comparable to others. The highlight of this visit was the customer service! The young lady who helped us was friendly from the moment we walked in and even as we walked out the door. She was helpful, nice, informative and not over the top. You know plenty of places to get good ice cream, it’s the service that brings you back to a particular spot.

The smell of waffle cone is on the top ten food favorites for me and this place does it well. Tasty ice cream, lots of flavors to choose from. The inside is kinda small and I wouldn’t want to be there if it was busy. This corner also attracts the Hawthorne street folk so probably best to grab a cone and walk on

The Candy Bar Pie I sampled was wonderful. Chocolate Therapy has pudding in it! Lazy Sunday tasted like cake. I was given a coupon for more free ice cream so I know I will be coming back.

I LOVE how friendly they are here, allowing us to taste and taste and taste some more! The flavors are soooo incredible! Yes, they are outstanding! I ended up getting the Greek vanilla yogurt, which was the best I have ever had!!! A fun summertime outing while strolling up and down Hawthorne! We ate this after a delicious dinner!

The ice cream speaks for itself but the self-​absorbed whiney hipsters that work here are absolutely worthless. There will be a substantial line of customers, many with kids, and the staff ain’t doing nothing but chatting amongst themselves while holding a cone & scoop and trying to look busy. I’m a pretty forgiving patron at most places, but do your f’n job and get the kids their ice cream before the next millennium.

Hot summer day on Hawthorne? Grab some ice cream here. Some days it can be wildly packed and other days it can be completely vacant.
They have free cone day and the people who work there have always been really nice to me. I always go with a waffle cone because they make them fresh there.
Very kid friendly.

Can’t fault it. I was at the peak of the rebirth of my love of ice cream when we stopped here. I had two scoops in a cup, which I think is roughly the same price as one scoop in a cone, and which is exactly why I had it. Cherry Garcia I’m in love with, and I tried the flavour both here and at the downtown store. Staff here were helpful and generous with sampling, and the store was cute and cool with a water fountain and little table and chairs for little people. Would go back… if we were ever back in Portland!

After a looooong walk on the SE side of Portand, Ben & Jerry’s seemed like a mirage. It was a hot day & we were in need of refreshment. We love their ice cream but today we looking for something thirst quenching. I had the Mango & Lemonade Sorbet & my husband had the Liz Lemon Greek Frozen Yogurt. Both hit the spot & the best part is that they have a 2 for 1 Unilocal check in offer!

Sadly generic. With its great ice cream and great location, it’ll do. But this is the ONE store on Hawthorne that might as well be in the burbs. The staff seems underwhelmed and annoyed. Even talking about the flavors seems to bother them. I don’t know what happened. This place used to be so fun!
If you’re looking for a unique Hawthorne experience, walk a block or so West to the quirky, friendly staff and yummy frozen treats of Swirl. (For the record, I much prefer B & J’s ice cream to frozen yogurt, but not when it’s served by unhappy employees who seem to dislike the neighborhood they’re in).
Also, Salt n’Straw has moved into Division. Those people are absolutely obsessed with happy ice cream! Bottom line: if you want the whole package don’t settle for B & J’s. There are plenty of other alternatives out there.

Sometimes you need an extra pep in your step to go window shopping in Hawthorne and walk through the neighborhoods. Yes, there are coffee shops and bars on this corner and that corner. However sometimes all you need is a bit of Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz ice cream to get you in the mood and put a kick in your step…

Ben & Jerry’s is a classic. They currently have an AMAZING chocolate and peanut butter flavor that is store only so get it while it lasts! Hopefully they will add it to their freezer isle as well. I love when you get ice cream at the store because it’s at perfect temperture and amazing.

Walked here from Screen Door (one of the best joints in Portland, IMHO).
Lots of interesting local wildlife in the area. We passed by a group of, I swear to jebus, gypsies, setting up a bunch of musical instruments and circling each other. Whoa.
The place itself was great. Lots of flavour varieties, they’re willing to let you taste everything, and my picky friend tried about six flavours before picking the two she wanted.
The serving sizes are massive! A kids cone means one gigantic scoop on a cone. A small is two and a large is three. Holy hell!
I had a kids cone of a very sweet, very rich ice cream. I can’t tell you the name now, but it had peanut butter, caramel clusters, and vanilla ice cream. It was very, very sweet, and made me thirsty, but it was very high quality. I“m not a huge ice cream guy, so I can’t really compare it to much, but I did enjoy it.
That and you certainly can’t beat the area. And despite there being a line to the door, it moved so smoothly, so quickly, and with such efficiency by the great staff, I barely had time to look at the flavours before we were being served.

I love this location of Ben & Jerry’s! Lot’s of interesting people watching, the boutique Goodwill across the street and if you’re lucky –a street musician right in front of the establishment.
It can get really busy with a long line for ice cream but that leaves you more time to drool over the ice cream and ponder all the possibilities of what to order (win-​win!)

Just by reading the name you know that you are going to be eating out of this world ice cream. I tantilized my taste buds with the newest flavor, «Schwetty Balls.» Does that ring a bell for any of you SNL lovers? It had rum balls and whoppers. It was absolutely delish! I got a large dish, so did my boyfriend, and my dad got a sugar cone with Strawberry Cheesecake. The unique aspect of the sugar cone is that they pack the ice cream into the cone, not just give you a scoop on top.
We went there with a groupon, but still it was pricey. A large cup was $ 6. When comparing that to a pint in the grocery store for $ 4, it seems a little expensive. However, there were kids tables, the server behind the counter was decked out in tie-​dye, and the store was very colorful.

Obviously, ice cream rocks.
This is a nice Ben and Jerry’s location, because it is large, has decent seating, and a great view of the road so you can people watch to your heart’s content.
I love all the options for ice cream, fro yo, take home pints, sundaes, smoothies, sundaes, etc. Something for everyone.
Service is very friendly, and the location is clean.

I’m not sure what I was thinking. I wanted a great milkshake, so we went to Ben and Jerry’s. I should have gone to Burgerville (no Joke, I know their shakes are the bomb).
You’d think strawberry and chocolate would have been a great combination for a milkshake. But I ended up with a watery mess of chocolate chip chunks and no distinguishable flavor.
I got a medium, and didn’t finish it.
Sorry B&J’s, you’re an ice cream joint, that shake should have rocked my world.
I’ll stick to Burgerville and their local strawberry goodness.

Not really an exciting ice cream parlor.
Just a wham bam thank you ma’am kind of place. Made for you to walk in, get your sugar and get out don’t hang out.
There are a few places to sit inside at your average joe plain tables and a nice outdoor sitting area that fits about 10 people. The outdoor seats are really packed in the summer and sometimes there is even a hippie band of some sort to help you get more into the Ben & Jerry’s mood (:
The ice cream is delicious for sure! Try getting the ice cream bucket for parties. Ridiculous amount of scooped ice cream of many choice in a bucket topped with a huge scoop of nuts, a couple scoops of fudge, caramel and topped by a good pile of whipped cream.
Perfect for a summer party or instead of a birthday cake. I think it runs about $ 24? I could be wrong…
For you health nuts that still need a little Ben & Jerry’s love, there is froyo in the most popular flavors. Now really, how can you beat that?
Hmm, I think I’ve talked myself into taking the scoot over today for a pint. Really I just want to dig into the bucket ‘O’ ice cream deliciousness again!

After watching the 40-​year-​old virgin with my guy last night, I was in the mood to letttt the sunnshineee, letttt the sunshinnnee in!
Lucky for me, the sun really was still out (at 9 p.m., even!), so we pulled on some sandals and headed out the door for our neighborhood B & J’s.
A few blocks later, the smell of waffle cones (which they make right there behind the counter) pulled me in through the doors by my nose. Salivating, I ordered a giant scoop of Vanilla (although I felt unpatriotic not to demand Whirled Peace) in a waffle cone. The gal behind the counter was sweet and lively, and because she handed me the ice cream, I really really liked her a lot.
Sat outside on the patio, and got to hang out with all of the Hawthorne people who migrated towards B & J on that 90-​degree night. A guy was there with his guitar (not surprisingly), and serenaded the crowd.
Good ice cream, good crowd, good entertainment.
So good, in fact, that it made me forget that I had just paid $ 8 for 2 ice cream cones.
Oh, well. Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in…

Dear Portland,
It is on the cusp of being May. A few weeks ago, it snowed, and today my car’s thermostat read 47 degrees. It’s not normal in any sense of the word.
Although you seem to have thrown your anti-​psychotics down the drain, your people seem to fight cold with cold! Yes, it’s almost May, and yes, it should be warm, but it’s not, yet still people lined up in droves to brave the weather and eat ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s. Ben, Jerry, you didn’t know it would be so cold that my hands would be numb. Free scoop day is the greatest invention since, well, ever. And judging by the faces on the little kids and the cheapskates who got a cone and jumped back into the line for another, everyone else thought so, too. Even though, dear Portland, we were also dressed in parkas.
Portland, when you actually decide to warm up – just a little – I’d be very happy to go back to Ben & Jerry’s to indulge in a hot brownie sundae loaded with Half Baked ice cream. I’d be very happy to sit on the little brick benches outside the establishment. And I’d be very happy to bop my head along with the live family-​oriented music in the tiny courtyard, if they host it on days other than Free Scoop.
Anyway, Portland… you may be frigidly cold, but that won’t stop us from getting our sugary, double-​churned goodness.
