CD Game Exchange

I frequent this business for games, cheap used movies, CD’s, vinyl, even my new Third Man Records record player! Maybe other locations are more spacious, but this is my usual. Truly something for everyone and you just can’t beat the used prices.
Love the online search, tells you which store has it and all will offer to have it shipped to the most convenient location for you.
Every interaction I have had with an employee has been very helpful and friendly. These are not your Jack Black High Fidelity types. Last Christmas their online search said that they had the book on CD that I was looking for, but they couldn’t find it in the store. They called me a week later with it and saved Christmas!

I often walk together to the CD game exchange on Hawthorne. We enjoy going there because the staff is always friendly and the selection of movies and games are worth the visit. I often buy a movies that cost between $ 1 – 2.50… which is cheaper then a rental!

The selections are nice, both new and used. Not to mention the things that will undoubtedly remind you of your youth (whether a 90’s baby or 80’s). They have things like guitars that teach you how to play, and posters from movies like the Crow or Scarface. As for the service, I wouldn’t expect much, unless you’re a hipster. Then I suppose they’ll be eager to swap stories and stroll with you through the store. Lastly, they have in store credit if you go to sell them things (sometimes they pay cash) and the gift certificates are nice too. Rock on Unilocalers.

Bring your kids here, and you’ll lose money faster than playing craps in Vegas at Midnight! Super great deals on x-​box and play station games. The stock is quickly replenished by «twentyish or something retirees» who become easily bored. This «Bonanza» brings the prices down to near giveaway deals! Why would anyone want to pay the full price of $ 50 or more for new games? Prepare to reinforce that magnetic strip on your credit card, because this place is located next to a Ben and Jerry’s! YIKES!

This place is deceiving on the outside in regards to size, however, there is some selection… nothing to desirable.

My last to Portland, I wasn’t able to squeeze in a trip to Ground Kontrol unfortunately, which anyone that knows me realizes is crushing to me. I was able to swing by CD Game Exchange to shop for some NES and N64 games for my burgeoning classic gaming laden office at home. For a total of $ 11, I was able to snag Dr. Mario, Captain Skyhawk and Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest. To me, a bargain. If I cared at all about music and movies physical media, I’d be in heaven here. As it is, it’s an awesome place to drop by and see what classic games they have in stock.

This place has the best deals in Portland hands down and if they do not have an item you are looking for the staff is more than eager to go and look it up and find it located somewhere else for you while you look around the store. There are no pressure sales people and love sharing and turning people onto different music. They give a fair deal for turning in movies, games, and other stuff they sell. I’m so impressed with the fact they don’t really advertise and thrive in their business based on word of mouth. If you have not been here before you really should and treat yourself to some ice cream at the Ben and Jerry’s store next door. I know you will leave happy.

This place is very COOL! i love this store and the other ones around Portland!
I got 10 movies for 10 dollars! Also i got some games from them, the games range from 2.50−50 bucks! (depends on the year of release and the demand of the game)!
The games i get are for the Xbox 360!

I went in there yesterday to return some games. I was excited about things I was going to do that day, until I left this business. This is one of the few Unilocal reviews I have written, but I felt the need to say something.
The girl working there is very rude. The first thing that she said when I walked in the door was «Here for an exchange??» with an attitude. I said yes and I have one to return. I said I thought it was a Ps2 game but it was actually a PC game. She said «Well they are in the same case» with an attitude. She quickly grabbed them out of my hands and started typing things into the computer. She didn’t ask if I wanted the money for exchange or in hand. She gave me a card with a measly 6 dollars in credit for 5 guitar hero games (that’s not her fault and I get that) I did want to waste her precious time because she looked like she would rather be doing something else, so I grabbed my card and walked out angrily. I told a few of my friends that I am never going back. They have reported similar experiences with this particular employee, and have walked out due to being upset with her attitude when selling game consoles in the past. I have been to various places in portland, various hipster/​pretentious places but have never had such rude service.
I actually thought this place was cool the last time I went. The guys that were working have always been nice. Oh well, don’t want to deal with her. I won’t be returning for a long time.
Hire someone else who actually appreciates the fact they have a job.

Love the old used game stores and CD/​Game Exchange on Hawthorne is great. They had a PS1 game I have been prowling for for a while… only $ 10 which was a very good deal. Picked up a PS3 game too.
Nice helpful staff, lots of old music and DVDs as well and a bunch of other goodies to check out on return trips. I’ll be back.

I walked in looking for a very rare PS2 game for my boyfriend’s birthday… the day before his b-​day. When I told the staff what I was looking for, they sprang into action. One guy looking on the shelf, the other on the computer… Lo and behold, they had what I wanted in the original box with all of the literature included!
They told me that I was very lucky to find it, especially in *nearly* mint condition. Did they charge me an arm and a leg for it? NO! They charged a fair price and thanked me for coming in.
From now on, this will be my FIRST stop when looking to buy or sell my games and CD’s.

This is the ONLY place I buy my 360 games. Reasonable prices nice employees, and they always have a decent selection of used (and a few new) games. There is always a bunch of games which are under 10 bucks which is nice. Perfect place to buy sport games which are old. they also have a huge selection of dvds, cds, and even a small collection of vinyl. I’ve been coming to this place for YEARS! I loved when they had a shop on Broadway; when they did, i went once a week; but that was long ago

This place is a life saver!
My review isn’t so much as a customer looking to buy some used stuff, but as a dude in need of some cash looking to unload some DVDs and CDs I haven’t watched or listened to in years. It’s goog to see places like this are still around, even as the internet has all but obliterated the retail music industry.
The process is simple. Just throw the items you’re willing to part with, drive over the the super hip SE Hawthorne area and walk inside. Hand over your items and browse the shop for a few minutes while they make sure they want your items. They’ll let you know how much they’re willing to give you in cash or store credit, you say ok, and that’s that.
If you’re looking to buy some cheap stuff they also have video games and I think a blu-​ray selection beyond the dvd’s and cd’s. Fair prices too. The shop is a bit on the small size, but that’s really the only thing I can remotely offer up a criticism on. Full of win.

I’ve been shopping these places around town for more than ten years now and you really can’t beat CD Game Exchange.
Prices are always low to begin with and the trade-​in value is definitely more fair than other spots. The selection at this particular store is limited only because of the size of it, but there’s always way more good finds than I can afford to get all at once when I go and they get new stuff all the time.
On top of that, the atmosphere is low-​key, the staff is chill and it’s in a dope neighborhood. All in all, it’s the shiz.
If you’re looking for great deals on music, movies, games, electronics and/​or posters, this is where you need to be. For realsies.

This has to be the best used game and movie shop in PDX (aside from CGGE’s other location obviously). Sales people are always friendly, they offer a decent trade value, and usually they have a large selection of great games, movies, music, and gameing hardware. CDGE seems to be better organized than other like stores, nothing I dislike here!

When my brother and I and our friends were younger, I’m fairly sure that CD/​Game Exchange received the majority of what disposable income our respective allowances allowed us — luckily, a little goes a long way there. Nowadays, digital distribution makes me lamentably less interested in browsing a physical record /​game /​video store, but it doesn’t dampen my appreciation that such a place continues to exist.
As is the case with most second hand shops, in terms of supply you’re at the mercy of the neighborhood in which they’re located — and luckily, Hawthorne tends to attract the sort of people who share my tastes in the sort of media that CD Game Exchange keeps in stock. The selection isn’t gigantic, but it’s not about quantity, so much as quality, is what I’m saying.
Definitely an essential stop if you’re taking a walk up and down hawthorne, and if you feel like taking a chance on their .25, .50, or 1.00 CDs, you just might walk away with a surprisingly good album that you’d never have given a second look otherwise.

Friendly staff operating a small space crammed full with games, CD’s, and other associated things, CD Game Exchange serves a niche new/​used game, CD, DVD, and Blu-​ray market on this side of the river.
I recently stopped in looking to see if they had any super-​steals on used PS3 games and Blu-​rays, and found a few decently priced gems. The discs were in good quality, and priced on average what they’re worth on the open market. I picked up 2 used Blu-​ray discs and a couple of used games and rolled out for around the price of one new game at, say, a Target. Plus, my $$ is staying local.
They also carry some used equipment like controllers, remotes, and the like. I’ll probably head back over there when I’m in need of a second controller or similar.

CD Game Exchange was the first thing I was ever addicted to in college. Everyday freshman year, my roommate and I would go there and buy DVDs and CDs, wasting thousands of dollars on seemingly inexpensive pieces of art. That was in Eugene, but the one on Hawthorne is just as good!
Over the course of 4 years, I accumulated around 300 – 350 DVDs and about 200 CDs from the Eugene location. Any CD Game Exchange is a great place to find $ 5 DVDs and CDs ranging from $ 1-​$ 20. They don’t have the best selection, but the inventory revolves fast enough that you can go once a week and see a lot of new stuff. I only go once every few months nowadays, but it is still a great place to get deals on stuff you like.
I recently bought Live Free or Die Hard, Transformers, and Little Monsters for $ 5 each. Any place that sells Fred Savage gems is a 5 in my book.
