At first, I thought the Redbox was awesome. I never rented anything from Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. Now that those places are all defunct and I’m left with only Netflix or Redbox to choose from, I’m happy to have this option.
I was renting from a big place around town (it involved movie props) but found the individual quality of discs to be a huge problem. Fool me once and all that jazz. So I quit.
But I digress. I’ve never been disappointed with anything at Clinton Street Video. It’s a cool little place. And it’s in SE. You know I’m not crossing a bridge for a movie rental.
Cool place! Rented a few international films. Good prices but cash only, AFAIK. Right near the Clinton Theater.

I love this place! They have an awesome selection of great movies — the hard to find and classics alike. The staff is great and so far, advice has always been spot on. We have never gone there and left with only one movie, it’s too hard to pick! Also, did you know you can call (days!) ahead and they will hold a movie for you?! I love it.

Killer music section… Couldn’t be finer. The staff are funny and kind. This place is cozy and can provide a video/​dvd to fit whichever mood you happen to be in.

This place is usually great in a Netflix emergency, BUT:
I moved back into the neighborhood after years in NE and tried to sign up here. They told me I had overdue fines from 12 years ago when my roommates rented something on my old account. I couldn’t check anything out unless I paid up. Isn’t there a statute of limitations on late fees? A forgiveness program?
And twice now I’ve stopped by for a specific DVD from a few years back (Goodfellas, The New World) and it was checked out. What are the odds? I had to go to Movie Madness instead.

Clinton St. Video is totally back in my good graces.
Thanks in large part to their abundant stock of FilmMovement flicks, I was able to survive a tenacious cold this past weekend, comfortably holed up at home.
Sometimes no matter how much elderberry extract, echinacea, golden seal, Vitamin C and zinc you self-​medicate with, if a cold wants to take up residence, it will simply do so. Heck, I even tried applying oregano extract to the balls of my feet (a remedy my sister swears by). All that happened is I ended up smelling like a pizza.
Yes, «New Arrivals» at Clinton St. Video are often already out on rent due to Clinton’s popularity and a small selection, but there’s lots of other goodies to pick from here. I’ve yet to rent a FilmMovement video that I didn’t enjoy.
The foreign film section is rock solid.
And prices are notably lower than at Gollywood Video or Blockbuster.

I used to like the idea of Netflix — you have that que to keep things orderly after all. But I’ve been burned by not keeping on eye on what is getting mailed and then haven’t been in the mood for the film when I get it.
Solution: local video rental store that has tons of DVDs — including hard to find foreign and independent movies.

I love Clinton Street Video — a deceptively large selection crammed into a modest space. The selection is truly awesome the only thing that I would like to see is a better system of recommendations — I’m often paralyzed by choice, and would love some staff comment cards like Powells, or a better staff picks section.

This is the best video store I’ve ever been to.
The selection is varied and interesting and the staff can usually help you pick something out that you never would have stumbled across otherwise. The girl with light hair who works there is fantastic at recommending movies and really sweet, too! Try to go when she’s working.
If the video is scratched or doesn’t work be sure to bring it back right away. I took one back a few days overdue once when it wasn’t working and the staff member charged me extra for keeping it late even though the disc didn’t play. I just avoided dealing with him after that.
Oh yeah… bring cash or local check. It’s cheap, too.

This place is killer. a helpful staff and an insanely huge music movie section. a CC payment option would be nice but it’s no biggie and they also give you a free movie, what seems like, every third time you go in.
I also now know the lyrics to the 21 jump street song by heart cause they carry season one on DVD so… take that for what it’s worth.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff, a real neighborhood love. You do need an account to rent, so be prepared if it’s your first time. Cash only, but there’s an ATM at Dot’s, which is still kind of inconvenient ’cause you need to switch out the receipt from the ATM at Dot’s for cash from their employees– so just come with cash. Their selection is very diverse and well arranged, if you’re traveling on foot in the area, this is the only one within a 30 minute walking distance. The next closest I can think of is Hollywood Video on Hawthorne which is open ’till midnight.

Best video store in town. No lines, I browse the isles by myself, good selection but not overwhelmingly so, good prices, the staff are nice, store is bright and clean. Clinton St. Video carries a crazy selection of weird, cult, hard to find, documentary and they also have new release hollywood, big budget stuff for those low brow nights. You can even find an original version of Mala Noche!
Cash only!!!

Self-​described as specializing in foreign, cult, and hard-​to-​find titles, Clinton is a good supplement to bigger Movie Madness. It is also a lot less crowded and overwhelming on weekends than Movie Madness is. That said, Clinton Video is a good bet for a small locally run video rental business where you can find foreign and cult titles.
