First of all let me say this review is somewhat biased. Why? Because I love squires loft and have been going there for at least 7 years. It is a great place to catch up with mates and more importantly the steaks I find to be of great taste and more importantly consistent. I do find it hard to find a steak house with such high quality as well as having the ability to deliver to expectations. Are they better steaks out there yes but there are many reasons why I go back to squires in South yarra. Favourite meal is the 300g eye fillet blue with chips and Danish blue cheese sauce a must try.

I love steak and potatoes, so on my last night in Melbourne, I HAD to come to a steakhouse. After looking places up, this one was super close and had good ratings. I didn’t make a reservation, but I was accommodated. I was recommended the eye fillet, which was cooked perfectly to my liking. But there was some kind of mustard taste on the top of my steak that threw me off. I love my steaks seasoned with just salt and pepper to let the meatiness speak for itself. Too bad this one had an extra flavor. The baked potato was ok — can’t really get that wrong. The workers were very friendly and attentive. But when I get back to the States, I can’t wait to go to Ruth’s Chris!

After all the hype, I came here originally with very high expectations. Don’t get me wrong, the steak is very good, but it just doesn’t live up to «the best steak in the world» type comments that are being thrown around in other reviews. Wine menu is solid, but the beer menu is VERY limited(standards; carlton draft, pure blond, crownies etc). On last visit, the service was quite slow as we had to ask twice for our drinks before they were served. That said, if I came here with no expectations then I wold have been very happy. If you want a good steak, this is the place to come.

All considered the best steakhouse in Melbourne. Hadn’t been for a while so delighted when I saw that it still has the highest quality ingredients. The steaks, feta mushroom entrees and pork ribs were all outstanding. Wine is reasonably priced. Service was super attentive with young, attractive ladies. Perfect in every way. My juices are going just writing this review. Must try the mushrooms!

Pork ribs and steak, I am not sure if you could combine two better meats for the ultimate meal experience. A fan, YES, so much so I opened an office in Melbourne just so I had a more meaningful excuse and guarantee I could eat here as often as possible. The ribs are absolutely amazing, juicy, meaty, melt in your mouth experience with a sauce that isn’t over the top, I have not found better anywhere yet, maybe I never will. The steak, nothing short of perfectly cooked, seasoned, and is a tribute to how all steak should be. My favourite is the eye fillet, I always order the small one, because after half a kilo of ribs I don’t really need it, but i can’t say no. if you enjoy a steak, or ribs, then you must check this place out. It is popular, the ambience is perfect no matter what the occasion, i suggest booking in advance though, as trust me, you will regret getting here, catching a smell of the steaks cooking in the open kitchen to be told, sorry no tables… that happened once, and to be honest, it was more painful then my divorce. Happy steaking!

There is no better steak anywhere. Fact. My wife and I are here for every birthday and any other time we can fit! :-)

After hearing many friends bang on about how good their steaks are, and seeing many people write about it being a contender for best in Victoria, I gave them a shot. This place has quite a high reputation to hold. Also note there are a few Squire’s Loft restaurants in Melbourne, but this is apparently the flagship. It’s quite a small space, long and narrow and double storey. We skipped the entrees and went straight for the steaks, along with a couple of sides. The one very notable thing alot of other places in Melbourne don’t do extremely well, but they do here, was make an exceptional crust. It was very crisp and full of charred, smoky flavour, yet the inside was cooked exactly as I ordered it. The crust was on-par with some of the best I’ve ever had, and reminded me of the steak I had recently at the famous Peter Luger’s in Brooklyn, NY. Only beef(pun intended) I had was the basting on the steak — it is very, very tangy, and I can guarentee not everyone will like it. I didn’t mind it myself, but you can request to have your steak minus the basting/sauce if you wish. All the steaks come with chips or mash. Chips were nothing special, standard pub style. The sides we ordered were abit hit and miss. We had the fried onions, which were so good, we ordered another one. We also had grilled vegetables, which unfortunately were slathered in the aforementioned steak sauce, which was very strong in flavour and a little bit too much. Service was excellent, with a very attentive waiter topping up water and checking on us constantly without becoming irritating.

When you are in the mood for a thick, juicy steak cooked to perfection, Squires Loft is the perfect spot. This casual restaurant offers a wide variety of cuts which are served with chips or baked potato. My favourite is the juicy Scotch fillet with mushroom sauce but for those who prefer something on the bone, the rib eye is a winner. All steaks are served with a choice of mushroom, black pepper or creamy garlic sauce but are juicy enough to have au naturel as well. If you’re extra hungry, try the fried onions or the black tiger prawn kebabs but keep in mind that steak portions are quite large so unless you’re sharing the entrees, try not to order too much. The great thing about Squires Loft is their service and quality are always consistent. Every time I dine there, my steak comes out a brilliant medium rare — and isn’t an iota over or under cooked. Meals are served promptly, without leaving you wondering what is happening and service staff are normally friendly and on the ball. Keep in mind though that this well-loved steak haunt is very popular even on weekdays so it’s best to make a booking and not be late. Don’t be that person who reserves a table and shows up 30 minutes late without even calling or you will lose your table.
