Squire’s Loft Steakhouse

There is no better steak anywhere. Fact.
My wife and I are here for every birthday and any other time we can fit! :-)

Having frequented many of the Squires Loft’s in Melbourne, I had great expectations on the original institution.
I called to make a reservation for a Wednesday night and was pleasantly surprised that they could not fit us in at 7.30pm — We settled for 8pm instead.
Upon arrival, our table was not ready so they set the 3 of us up at a table for 5 and removed the extra settings. We sat at the back of the restaurant close to the kitchen.
Sitting out of sight of the main wait area, we were often forgotten and had to constantly get the attention of waiters.
Could not fault any of our meals — it’s heard to find a place that actually cooks the steak to the way you have ordered it.
Good size servings (most cuts had a choice of 200g or 300g) that came with chips or a baked potato. A side of salad was enough for 3 people.
The dessert menu is not worth looking at. However over all — fabulous steaks despite the poor service.

An oldie but a goldie. Squires never fails to impress with the best affordable steaks around. The steaks, no matter which cut you prefer, is about an inch and a half thick, and go for the 300gm piece trust me, it’s worth it.
There’s also a variety of sauces to choose from, to accompany your steak, raves are the blue cheese and recently it’s the green pepper. That, with a little horseradish will definitely clear any sinuses and blocked noses. The steaks already come basted with the house sauce, which is really tasty too. The steaks are served with a side choice of chips or a baked potato. You can order up shoestring fries if you like.
Make a booking, as they are usually booked out every night and people do show up. I’ve seen many people turned away at dinner time because they are just at full capacity.
Service is always warm, friendly, prompt and attentive. Whilst the ambience is I guess a little dated, it does seem familiar and warm all at the same time so don’t change that Squires!
