Our parents used to bring us here as kids when it was Lynch’s. I’m so happy it’s finally had a revival after all these years. Lovely property and great food.

Terrible service. One shouldn’t have to wait 15 minutes for a menu, then another 15 minutes to have your order taken by a rude and uninterested waitress who doesn’t bring you your bill, doesn’t return your change and throws it on the table nonchalantly when she does. Shame because the food was good but the rudeness of the staff(including the maitre d) affects the experience.

I really liked this place. We had dinner on Saturday night. The service was really friendly, the building is beautiful, and they have great steaks, oysters and wine, hard to go wrong. I’d read reviews of inattentive service etc, but that wasn’t my experience at all. Also, I’d been told that you can’t reserve here, but I was able to no problem. I’d very much return.

You can’t beat this place for atmosphere! The staff are perfect and the mood tempts you to linger. Depending on your state of mind you can sprawl on the veranda(now enclosed and heated for winter — how perfect!) or find a cosy nook in one of the many rooms in this grand old lady. I love that it’s open from early morning till late, late at night. The menu is uncluttered and it’s impossible to go wrong here but the steak with its addictive green sauce is a must have.

While walking to our accommodation in South Yarra, Joe and I passed Entrecôte. During the cold winter, we decided to grab ourselves some hot coffee. It was one of the cheapest coffee I’ve ever had in Melbourne — AUD2.50 for a cup of latte. The coffee wasn’t very strong so it’s perfect if you like your cuppa on the milder side. If the weather is good, grab your take-away and go to the Royal Botanic Garden, find a spot where you can sit, relax and enjoy your morning while sipping on your coffee. It the perfect way to start your day, especially if you are on a holiday!

Want to pretend like you’re in Paris for a moment? This is the place to do it. Look, the staff need a little polish and unless you eat steak you could be in trouble, but it is good fun. Especially during happy hour! Oh la la

We finally made it to Entrecôte! On a cool autumn night, it was simply beautiful to swing by this cosy + fancy spot for a gorgeous dinner. We managed to get here early(in time for happy hour!) and were seated at a gorgeous window table in the front room. Between looking out towards the park and having a fireplace going in the room, it was divine. Happy Hour until 6pm meant cheaper Champagne + oysters, so we started with exactly that. Hadn’t had such lovely oysters since I was in Tassie last year. Deeeelish. I would probably go back for the Oysters alone. But let’s be real, we were here for the steak and chips. Medium Rare orders in, and it was only a few minutes after finishing our starter that we had a steaks on the table, accompanied by a big serving of chips and salad. While it wasn’t the best steak of my life, it was still pretty bloody good, and the endless fries/salad situation just wins you over. It’s so lovely that this place has managed to do both brekky/fine dining dinner in one restaurant, and I’m keen to go back for a coffee and a pastry one morning. Go for it the second bowl of fries, then walk around the tan afterwards ;)

Chicken liver parfait, confit salmon, unlimited freshly baked baguette with delicious French butter, unlimited French fries, salad, bottles of red wine, toasty fire place and great service. You just can’t go wrong on a cold autumn evening. All my companions had the steak frites but I’m trying to cut down my meat intake and opted for the confit salmon and so glad I did. It was delicious melt-in your mouth and not fishy at all I just loved it(especially since I’m not a huge cooked salmon lover) Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their steaks while we all shared an extra serving of French fries after 3 servings of baguette, oh the delicious crunchy crust with a soft white inside. Just divine! I’m pretty sure I dreamt of it! I love the simplicity of the main menu, steak, salmon or vegetarian option for an easy $ 39.95 with fries and salad. For 5 people with 1 entrée and 1 dessert and 3 bottles of red came to $ 440. Will definitely come back!

A slice of Paris in Melbourne entrecôte has perfectly captured the essence of a Parisienne eatery. From the tree lined street intimate round tables, romantic ambiance and of course the push bike with a basket of baguettes and flowers one could be forgiven for thinking you’d taken a holiday. What I love about entrecôte is the simplicity of the offering, oysters, steak and frites being the stars with a few extra small options thrown in for good measure the focus is on providing good quality tasty food. As always my dining companion and I are bent on trying as many things as possible and the desert menu called us before we’d even ordered. We settled upon a half a dozen Tasmanian oysters freshly schucked and served with a light seeded mustard vinigarette. I opted for a French apperatif of lillet Blanc with a twist of lemon which complimented the oysters beautifully. We then shared the steak which came came covered in a rich herb buttery sauce and a generous serve of fries and salad. If you’re hungry fries can be topped up at no extra charge. To finish we opted for the profiter rolls. Each delicate house made pastry case was filled with a different ice cream favour, pear, vanilla bean and chocolate then sprinkled with cacao nibs and drizzled in melted milk chocolate sauce. In a word phenomenal. I love that the kitchen is open until midnight and I have to say I will be back again.

If you crave Steak Frites you need to pay Entrecôte a visit. It’s a simple dish of steak & fries with a generous(often butter-based) sauce that never fails to please, and it’s standard of French Bistro fare. What I loved about my first visit to Entrecôte was the excellent warm service and the decision to really pare back the menu to the bare essentials — Oysters, Champagne, Red wine, Steak Frites. That’s pretty much it. Sure there’s also choux pastry balls filled with caramelised onion and cheese, and the wonderfully dressed salad greens with your main. But I really love the bravery these guys are showing with with truly«less is best» aesthetic. Lovely rich sauce to dip crispy golden fries in, steak was decent enough, lescure butter for your bread. choux pastry ball a miss, but oysters so fresh. beautiful staff who handle you with care. all in all a delight. oh yes crème brûlée to swoon for. It was busy at 8.30pm, we went down the street to the botanical bar for a quick cocktail to wait for the SMS that our seats were ready. 20min wait but that’s fine I quite like the no booking approach for a casual meal. I would definitely return.

I was so psyched when I read this place was opening! So much so I started to have flashbacks to the incredible steak frites we ate the last time we were in Paris just over a year ago at a restaurant of the same name. So when I finally got to head to Entrecôte with the husband and a couple of friends, I was excited to say the least. And I was not disappointed. With only two items on the menu — one entrée(oysters) and one main(steak frites) — you would hope that everything is sensational. And it was! We didn’t have oysters on this occasion but enjoyed a glass of Mumm($ 16) before we tucked into the steak frites, medium rare. Cooked perfectly, we loved every bite of the steak. The fresh bread with French butter & frites are bottomless, so if you want more, ask; although initial servings are already generous! Your steak frites also come with the standard green salad with delicious French dressing so you can add some colour to your plate to placate the guilt. Plus the«sauce» that comes with the steak is tasty too. We shared a bottle of red with our steak before also sharing a tarte tatin for dessert. Delicious again. I can’t wait to venture back and imagine I am back in Saint Germain. If only the waitstaff had French accents…

Late dinner, kitchen was still open after 10. Service was impeccable as always and I just ate the best cheese burger ever!

I really should stop gushing about Entrecôte to every single food lover I know lest I can’t get a seat the next time I visit. You can’t book here so it’s a first in, first served kind of arrangement. My favourite +1 and I paid a visit on the last night of January. The date is significant because I was planning on a «no-booze February» so needed to ensure good food and great wine list for my «last night» on the turps. Anyone would think it was a death row meal the way in which I worked it up in my mind! Let me say that Entrecôte would be worthy of a death row meal for most people in this world. It is simple but utterly terrific. The dinner menu eliminates indecisiveness with just a single option for both entrée and main. Entrée — Oysters. Main — Steak frites. That’s it. It’s a pretty ballsy move having just two items on your menu, but back it up with great produce and attention to detail and you’re going to have people flocking from far and wide to get in on the action. We started with oysters and Champagne(Mumm, very reasonably priced at just under $ 16 a glass) and started on a fancy pants bottle of Beaujolais while we devoured the baguette with mini packets of Lescure butter. When offered another round of bread we greedily said yes and were thrilled to get yet another portion of butter. It’s a small thing, but give people great butter without being stingy and they’ll love you for it. Our steaks arrived medium-rare just as we had requested. $ 39 gets you a large and perfectly cooked steak alongside a mound of excellent fries and a river of the most amazing sauce. A big bowl of leafy salad was also included to make us feel a little better about the artery clogging that was about to ensue. It was all delicious and despite the frites being«endless», we couldn’t have fit another in. For a last meal it was a perfect one and I’m now counting down the days of sobriety before I can make my way back for another experience here. March 1. It’s a date!
