This is my second visit to the brew house and I enjoy the feel of the place. I’ve brought my husband this time, and he’s checking out every detail. We’re lucky enough that we can get the brew house coffee at our local café in swan hill, so we know we’re getting the good stuff.

Brewhouse was our first stop from MEL airport. After 24+ hours of travel from the US, D and I opened up the shop and started off with perfect flat whites. My veggie breakfast was perfect — fresh veg, cheesy and beautifully poached egg — while D’s prawn & avocado sammie could have been improved with toasted bread and a bit more flavor. We’ll definitely be back, maybe even later today!

Whenever I come to Bendigo to visit my Dad, this is one of two places I regularly come for coffee. When Dad first moved here, one of my first tasks was to suss out the best coffee in town and I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I love the vibes, the staff are always friendly, the space is huge and very Bendigo-hipster-cool. Taking into account Melbourne’s ever-growing health-consciousness, the Brewhouse is following form and actually knows how to make almond milk lattes taste great. There are Gluten Free options on the menu too, although I don’t come here for the food — It’s nothing to write home to Melbourne about. However, I’ve never had a bad coffee here. Parking is horrible. As in most big country towns, you have to pay for parking wherever you are, and there’s not a lot of it. If you’re grabbing a take-away, there are handy 10 minute parks right outside, but if you’re sitting down you’ll have to park a few streets away and walk. Which may not be a terribly bad thing after you’ve eaten a huge brunch!

Massively hipster, warehouse style, grungy look. Its noisy and brash but works well. The staff are friendly, though not very attentive. It was hard to get anyone’s attention after they took initial orders. I have been twice now and my order was taken wrongly each time. The coffee is genuinely good. The food is passable but not a highlight. Good for coffee and a snack but not a place you would go to for a meal.

Don’t get me wrong I love a good coffee and the brew house has the capacity to make this. And I can understand the rush on a busy day. But I have been to the brew house probably 3 times in the past 4 days and every time my coffee has been luke warm. Maybe because it’s summer. Maybe I need to ask for it hot. But I assume that when you ask for a coffee, no matter the temp outside, it comes to you steaming. Otherwise you would ask for a iced coffee right?

A cute little establishment, with an industrial feel. light fittings made from plastic milk crates or rusty fencing wire, and the walls adorned in numerous sections with street art. Due to the nature of the building the noise level at times made it difficult to maintain a conversation. The menu offered a substantial number of breakfast/brunch dishes, which looked appealing and were still on offer at the time we arrived. As it was after midday we opted for the more substantial chicken BLT with chips and lovely little salsa, and a Caesar salad. Our discussion over lunch turned to #Hashtag, the sister café to Brewhouse, which is set to open in Kennington Village next month… can’t wait to check it out!

I feel hesitant to review local beloved institutions. As far as I can tell, Brewhouse is one of them and Bendigonians love the crap out of this place. A deliberately hipster joint with lots of beards, exposed wood and lights made out of milk crates. That’s not to say that I hated it! Not one bit. The restaurant space was large and I would definitely be keen to check this out for lunch or dinner. As far as brunch goes, pretty standard fare and drinkable coffee. Nothing outstanding. It’s nice a cheap though, with most breakfast options including a big stack of pancakes running under $ 15. For star ratings, I would say it’s a local 5, standard 4 and an out of town coffee snob’s 3.

I had already eaten before I popped into Brewhouse but I’d heard such great things so I needed to drop in for a coffee and check the place out. I’m really impressed, Bendigo! The staff are all cool looking, tattooed dudes and dudettes but the patrons vary completely. The staff actually look like they enjoy working here which makes you enjoy your experience that much more. Inside has a warehouse sort of feel. Exposed brick on some walls and others covered with colourful graffiti. And they’re obviously about sustainability and recycling because water is served in old Absolut Vodka bottles, the light shades are made of milk crates and the front counter looks like it used to be an old shipping container. There are a bunch of old trestle tables to share with others or great for your own big group. I LOVE what they’ve done with this place! And the coffee is great! It’s hard to find good coffee outside of the city but this is really good. The food looks really great also and they’re fully licensed as well which is an added bonus. I’ve also heard on the grapevine that they’re going to start hosting a ‘Stitch & Bitch’ where you can get together with a bunch of others and learn to crochet over coffee or gin — whichever you prefer. If you’re in Bendigo it’s definitely worthwhile giving the Brewhouse a go!

Good coffee, and a nice atmosphere. Didn’t try the food on this visit but will be back. The place was busy and everyone seemed happy. The service fast and the staff friendly.

A funky space and decent food could have earned a 3+ rounded to 4 but the not so great coffee and the customer service needing improvement put it at below 3, rounded to 2. Good bread on a nice big breakfast. The Coffee was a bit too milky for my taste and lukewarm to boot. The service was friendly but they did something I hate: I asked to have my beans swapped for spinach and they charged me an extra side. I get not accepting changes to the menu on busy days or otherwise, but charging for a straight swap on sides of the same value is just poor form.
