Walking into the salon, I was a bit put off by the lack of seating available for clients waiting to be seen. I was quickly greeted by a slew of people, my coat was taken and I was led to what turned out to be where all the magic was to happen. Upon the advice of my fellow Unilocalers, I booked my appointment with Kylie. She came over straight away, sat down next to me and let me describe what it was that I wanted, showing pictures and everything. I told her about the cut I had just 6 weeks ago by a reputable salon in the states and admitted my disappointment at the quality for what I had paid for the cut.($ 80) She then played with my hair a bit describing what she’d do to correct the cut and how I could eventually grow my hair into the style I wanted.(a crazy mix of longer layers a la punkish scene hair) She went away and a gorgeous boy much too young for me to fancy came over and gave me a scalp and shoulder massage before taking me over to wash my frayed locks. Once back at Kylie’s station I sat comfortably with magazines and a drink, listening to the music, watching the active staff interact with each other and the clients for a few minutes before she came back after finishing up with another client. I must say that almost instantly into Kylie cutting my hair, I could tell a major difference in the texture and before long, my once ratty feeling hair was looking and feeling healthy and great again. She blow dried my hair straight and styled it perfectly, explaining point blank how to do it on my own. I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks. All in all, Kylie is the one to call upon when you want what you want done to your hair. Cutting hair since she was 14 gives her loads of experience you’d expect with this quality of cut. She’s super friendly and has made an instant client out of me!

Rainbow Rooms on Great Western Road is my current hairdressers du jour! I rarely change hairdressers as I like to find someone I like and trust with my crowning glory and stick with them. After moving to the West End though travelling back and forth to my old favourite, Canvass in Bridge of Weir, became a bit of pain! Rainbow Rooms are a little more expensive than most salons(£35 for a cut and blow dry with a Stylist) but I definitely think it’s worth it. The hairdressers really know their stuff when it comes to hair. Every time I visit this salon(religiously every 6 weeks!) I always come away with another great hair care or styling tip! Included in the price of your haircut is a good 10 minute shiatsu massage. I mean a proper head, neck and shoulders massage too, not one of those ones where your sitting at the extremely uncomfortable basins thinking, «Is this over yet?» Your massage is given in a proper salon chair where they spray your hair with water and gently massage in your shampoo, minimising time spent at the doom basin! This salon also sells all the Rainbow Rooms products and the staff let you know which of these they are using on your hair and why. Don’t worry though, they never try to push you in to buying any products you don’t want too! I always leave with a bottle of the Heat Protector though. It’s much better than the supermarket brands. I have three insider tips for you regarding this salon: 1. Ask for Kylie, my favourite stylist! She’s bubbly, knowledgeable and understands exactly what your looking for. 2. The salons best selling product is the Gloss Foam, ask them about what it can do for your hair! 3. Book your appointment on-line for a £5 discount! This is EVERY time you book on-line, it’s not a one off deal.

Alongside many other establishments on the lively Great Western Road, Rainbow Rooms offers great professional hair services in the hip West End. I’ve received haircuts at the Royal Exchange Square salon, and have been happy with the results. Since moving to the West End, I found it was important to search for an ideal stylist without having to venture into town to get a trim or a cut. After a quick phone call and a walk to the salon, I found myself greeted with a warm friendly smile of whom I believe is the Salon Director. I was just in for a complimentary fringe trim with one of the stylists, and I was told that once I’ve been to this salon, I’ll never want to go anywhere else… I smiled. My coat was taken, I was seated, and offered a beverage before my stylist fetched me. I explained to the stylist what I wanted, and mention the whole rat-tail situation from a previous haircut. Sure enough, I got the fringe trim I wanted and the rat-tail situation was permanently fixed. With professional staff, a clean space, friendly service, and comparable prices to other salons of a similar calibre, I’ll definitely be back for a regular haircut.

The time I went to the Rainbow Rooms was when I had decided that I was going to pay a bit of money to get my hair cut to see if it made a difference. On arrival I was assisted by a small gentleman who shampooed my hair followed by a 10 minute head massage which made me happy! I nearly fell asleep with the abundance of happy I was feeling, what a great way to round off a day and begin a haircut. The young man who was assigned to my head, I believe was a trainee as he was under close surveillance by an older looking man who he worryingly kept turning to and asking questions. When he was done with my wet head his supervisor came over and changed a few bit here and there. Oh well, as long as it got fixed. I really did enjoy my experience here, but would like to have more trust in the person cutting my hair but they have got to practise on someone I guess. Lucky Me!
