I came here on recommendation from my dear friend Carolyn E. I took a bit of a risk and called up in the morning to ask for an appointment that same day, and it was incredible — even though I had an appointment that I couldn’t miss, they were happy enough to squeeze me in and bend over backwards to make sure I was ready in time for said appointment. I walked in and was asked to sit down. A few moments later I was helped into my hairdressing gown(not a backwards cape, woo!) and was taken to a seat at one of the round tables around one sits when getting their hair done. It’s interesting because I’m used to having my back turned to people and only seeing the mirror reflections to know what is going on around me. My stylist, Amy(whom I cannot strongly recommend enough, she’s great!) came over and we chatted, she said my ends aren’t as bad as they think they are and we agreed to what I wanted to get done and how I wanted my fringe to be like. She managed to put in my highlights and a brightener in record time — nobody has ever worked so efficiently, and more impressively, she did it all on her own. While she was working away we had a wonderful chat about everything and anything, and maybe this was why it felt like time was flying by. As this salon uses only Aveda products my hair was left feeling super smooth and shiny, and well cared for. I have to admit, that I splurged and got myself the shampoo and conditioner, just to treat my hair to some TLC. Amy took great care when shampooing and conditioning my hair, and when she was cutting it. I am very happy with what she did to my head, and I’ve already booked an appointment for October to make sure I look presentable at a conference! Kudos, West End Hair, and thank you Carolyn E for the recommendation! N.B. there is a Unilocal Check-in deal of £10 off, as a new customer you get £10 off, students get 10% off Tuesday — Friday, and their website and facebook page always have late deals for the spontaneous bargain hunters! However, please do be aware that it is on the expensive side, however, it’s worth it!

Really really great experience here thanks to stylist Amy! Walked in, hair perfectly frizzy and wind blown, thanks to Glasgow’s ever changing weather patterns, and even though I was a bit early, I was taken in straight away for a consultation and a nice head massage. I absolutely love Aveda salons because not only are their products plant derived and naturally made, their salons have high standards for their clients, and offer amazing side services like a free head massage. Anyway, not having had my hair cut since before new years eve, I was looking pretty ratty. To be fair, it’s mid cram time for exams, and I barely towel dry my hair in the morning before I’m rushing off to the library to study. Today was no exception. Amy and I discussed what I wanted done with my hair, she gave me some advice, and we came to the conclusion that in order to grow my hair out the way I want, she was going to take my current style(a grown out inverted bob) and shape it in a way that would eventually even out all the layers to start the long process of properly growing out my hair. Hair shampooed and conditioned(with Aveda products obviously!), I sat back in the chair for some friendly banter and an amazing hair cut. Amy is super friendly and very knowledgeable, I felt like I was in capable hands, and had no worries whatsoever that she might sheer me bald or layer my fringe(what most hair stylists want to do first when they see me). We had loads to talk about from 24 being one of the best shows around, to how I met my boyfriend and the love story that is my every day life. It was a great wee chat. Once it was all said and done, my hair was perfect. I’ve always wanted to find someone who could shape my hair to the style that I’ve seen in magazines a while back that I can never seem to get done to my hair, but I think Amy is a diamond in the rough as far as being able to properly cut my hair… and me actually love it! Checking out, I realised there was a Unilocal deal(a tenner off services) and I also got the student discount. With all that savings, I thought it the perfect time to pick up some products to treat myself for once! I love Aveda products– my hair really responds to them and every one should start using them! Westend hair, you surprised me! I’ve walked past you many times, and finally decided to give you a go, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve already recommended Amy to my friend Sophie K. and will continue to recommend her and Westend hair to everyone!

I booked an appointment here for a long overdue haircut because they offer a £10 discount to new clients. They have an online booking system which is really handy. The salon has had a makeover since the last time I visited(I think the business has changed hands) and they’ve done a great job. There’s a good size waiting area with sofas and plenty of space to browse the Aveda stocked shelves. Instead of having mirrors along the walls they have them on round tables spaced out around the room. This means you’re sitting around a big table with other people and can see everything that’s going on around you which I really liked. The entire front of the shop is glass so you can also watch the world go by as you get your hair done. My stylist was really nice and easy to talk to but in the end I didn’t like my cut, they took too much off despite my warning about my curly locks! Like many salons the stylists are priced differently depending on experience but the prices are a bit steep compared to other good places in the area like Lunatic Fringe.

I hadn’t been anywhere near a hairdresser in about 10 months so figured it was time to have my hair seen to by a professional. I went to Westend hair as they use only Aveda products. Although Aveda is not certified vegan the majority of their hair products are as long as you stay away from their Pure Abundance range and Phomollient which contains honey. I was thinking of going darker with my hair colour and James who was cutting my hair was able to give advice on this. He steered me in the direction of a semi-permanent to make the upkeep easier, given my history of not going to the hairdressers very regularly this was a good idea. I only needed a trim to tidy up the ends as I’m growing my hair but he also shaped my fringe to help it sit better. New clients to the salon get a £10 discount so make sure to mention that if it applies when you book your appointment.
