First time in here at the weekend for takeaway and certainly not the last. The food was super tasty, one of the best carry outs I’ve had in a while. Also, once we got home we opened it up to find they had also added some complementary prawn toast … Thats what I like to see. Great menu selection, you’ll be far from disappointed.

Tried out this place for the first time using the delivery service, which was good — easy to use, came in a reasonable amount of time and the restaurant gave us some free sesame-seed prawn bread thingies. However, I was very disappointed with the tasteless dishes — the BBQ sauce the spare ribs came in was far from the finger lickin’ good sweet sauce that I was expecting and could have just been coloured water for all I knew. Likewise the special XO sauce was just beef in water with added chillies and the special chow mein was hardly better than a variety of sliced meats in noodles. Only the crispy seaweed saved the day, but it’s hard to see how you can go wrong with that dish. Really, I’ve had better dishes from microwaveable supermarket meals.

This has got to be one of my late night favourite’s for grabbing some ‘healthy’ vegetable heavy Chinese food. At least, I like to think it’s healthy. They have a large menu with something for everyone(even me who is only just starting to appreciate Oriental food) and great prices — especially when you take advantage of set time/meal deals. The bright pink front always makes me smile and usually marks the end of a good night. My next stop though, is heading in here earlier for a sit in meal. If the takeaway’s anything to go by, sitting in should be even better. Getting waited on, sitting next to the window and watching the world trudge past in Glasgow rain.

Perfectly located on Great Western Road for a post-pub dinner, Oriental West provide delicious chinese food for reasonable prices, and also throw in the much coveted cheeky fortune cookie with all orders over ten pounds. A favourite amongst students, the fast delivery and wide selection of meals and deals(The special 10pm menu being a favourite) make this a crucial menu to have stuffed in a drawer of every flat. Friendly and helpful staff, and the obligatory dodgy delivery man, make it easy to order up your every oriental desire, often with a side of prawn crackers while you wait. For the lazy amongst us who can’t face trundling down to the cash machine in the cold, you can even pay for orders by card over the phone. Although never having experienced it, the Oriental West also offers a sit-in restaurant which looks to be a viable option if you simply can’t wait to get all the way home to indulge in your spare-ribs and beef chow mein. Offering massive portions for less-than-steep prices, the Oriental West is one of the west end’s highlights for reasonably priced chinese cuisine and is well worth a visit, although you may find yourself back for seconds!

Having had take out from here on several ocassions, I feel it necessary to review it for you all. Oriental West is a decent Chinese take-away(or sit in). The food tastes fresh and the place looks extremely clean and modern. My personal menu highlights include: The bbq spare ribs, king prawn and sweetcorn soup, sweet and sour chicken, and the satay chicken. Generally my flatmates and I order a selection and then pick at them all. Yum yum yum! Luckily, they also send free dishes when you spend over certain amounts. In the past we’ve received free prawn crackers, spring rolls and spare ribs(obviously at different times ha!)! Amazing. It’s not exactly expensive either, so it’s also value for money if you’re on a budget.
