Had dinner here tonight when a mouse ran trough the restaurant. After we complained, the manager told us this is normal in Holland. When I mentioned in Dutch, that I actually am Dutch(we had spoken in English until then as a courtesy to my table partner), and that this is not normal in The Netherlands, we got little reply. Disappointed by the mouse, but even more by the reaction of the management.

Had dinner with girlfriend there, while paying a mouse crossed over the restaurant and we were being informed that’s how Amsterdam is. The food is still tumbling in my tommy, and hard to return!

Very impressed with the quality of their food. We ordered a variety of sushi n sashimi and enjoyed every piece of it. Good customer service. Wish they would check on their tables more often.

This is the best sushi I’ve ever eaten! Sooo many options and it is an all you can eat! Besides that, the ambience is just amazing! The staff is nice, fast and organized and the place looks gooorgeous. Gonna come back everytime we are in Amsterdam.

Went here again today at lunch time. The food was good enough to warrant an update. We went with the a la carte menu and spent € 29 for two people. The all-you-can-eat would have been much more expensive and too much food. The chicken noodles were good, similar to yakisoba, and we got a large to share. The seaweed salad was large and was green salad underneath with seaweed salad on top. It was a good combination. We added an 8-piece salmon sashimi, which was a good value at € 8. Lunchtime service was quick and attentive, and we didn’t have any trouble getting our bill at the end.

We walked in 35mins before the all-you-can-eat buffet menu ended. 25 euro isn’t bad at all considering their large choice of sushi/sashimi and smoke salmon salad/all kinds of rolls, handrolls, lambchops(our favorite! super tender and very well seasoned), ribeye steak, all types of skewers, gyoza, etc. As long as you finish the each round, you can order 2nd and 3rd so forth. You get ice cream of your choice: green tea, sesame, vanilla. Not bad and the fish tasted fresh.

Nice little restaurant between Dam square and Rembrandt square. Came here with a group of colleagues after our busy day of work! It’s a nice and cozy spot on a busy Amsterdam street. They have a lot of vegetarian options… sushi and otherwise. The tempura sweet potatoes were great! The ordering is a bit confusing but the staff was all very sweet and walked us through it. Worth a stop in when in the area!

Not super fresh sushi, byzantine ordering system, overcooked ribeye. These places(Sumo, Shabu Shabu) aren’t really that great at all. I’d suggest finding a place that actually serves fresh fish and takes more care in preparing things.

This place is very average for those who love sushi. First, it markets itself as an «all you can eat» type of a restaurant, but you can order only 5 dishes per time and 5x max. So, you have restrictions on how much and what you can order each time. On the good side, you probably won’t order more than 5x, I was full after 3 rounds. Second, The flavors, variety and selection is not very extensive as I expected. Also, when I asked for ponzu sauce the waiter had never heard of it and said that they don’t have such a sauce. Overall, an ok place and service, but food wasn’t as good as I had hoped.

I love this place. Considering the amount of food you get, it’s very cheap. What costs is actually all the drinks and sodas, because you eat so much. They have fantastic sushi, barbecue, and, yeah, never dissatisfied, always way too full.

This place is a chain which I am pretty against but boy was this place good. You get a lot of bang for your buck doing an all you can eat lunch here. Staff are nice and helpful. The ambiance in this restaurant is floral and elegant. The only weird thing is that they won’t refill hot water for your tea. A couple of places did this so I’m assuming this is a European thing, I don’t know. Everything aside, we were STUFFED after this. Great location for shops, etc which is good because you will need to walk it off after!

I don’t think I’ve ever liked a restaurant less. Overpriced warm sushi that tasted anything but fresh. The staff are rude to boot. I’m still shocked this place has anything but horrible reviews, and I was really excited to go to this place and wanted to love it.

Si te gusta el sushi vas a disfrutar como un enano. Puedes pedir de carta o la modalidad all you can eat(come hasta rebentar). El sitio suele estar lleno de gente, el servicio es amable y atento. Si como a mí el sushi no te gusta mucho tienen otras cosas como pollo a la parilla con salsa teriyaki. Aún asi el «crab swarm» me ha encantado.

So you know, all you can eat sushi… Kind of a novel approach. 5 pieces per person at the table(Rolls are 3 pieces of a roll per order) for 5 rounds. The four of us made it to round 3 i think. It’s also not just sushi, lots of other tasty treats to fill up on. The entire process is pretty well done, staff is buzzing about endlessly so you hand your order to anyone passing by and shortly after that someone else drops off your order and your order form.

Wow — amsterdam has the«all you can eat» down. It’s a funny version of all you can eat — as in — there are limitations. Limitations you will never come close to meeting… There are 5 rounds, 5 items per person. There are over 60 items to choose from — nigiri, rolls, hot food, sesame balls… everything, anything! The staff works in such a was, that, you don’t really have a waiter, or server. Someone comes and takes your drink order, then you just hand over you list of desires… As items are completed, someone or multiple someones come around and hand out things you ordered! You list is returned, fill out what you want on the next round, hand it to any server, repeat. The sushi is tasty, quality is nice, options are fun! Fan favorites: Crunch roll Beef roll Eel(each nigiri is one piece) Salmon Tuna Sesame balls Don’t do it: Pesto shrimp Spicy tuna(it’s spicy tagarashi type type on the outside, no spice inside) Fried tofu Pretty much most everything is very tasty, even the fried chicken wings! Save up your calories and have a fun night!

I like the all-you-can-eat sushi concept that seems quite popular in Amsterdam. My friends and I have always gathered for meals at Tokyo Café on the Spui, but I wanted to change it up and have something a bit more upscale, so we decided on Sumo on Vijzel. Interior is quite beautiful, very intimate and visually appealing. We were seated promptly even on a very busy Thursday night. We were able to order drinks right away and begin ordering sushi. I was a bit turned off by the extensive list of huis regels(house rules) listed on the back of the menu kaart… a bit unfriendly if you ask me.(Especially considering Tokyo Café offers just a multi-hour window with 2 seating times for dinner — –no other limitations). HOUSERULES –During Japanse dinner you get two and half hours to the menu to order. –At least 1 drink /consumption per person. Served during lunch /dinner. –Ordering an order, is simple by self-completion. –Up to five meals per person may be ordered at a time. –You can order again, when the previous order is served. –Waste is not valued, therefore we apply a fee. –Please, order what you can eat. –Remains due to waste additional charge: € 1.00 per sushi and € 2.00 per hot dish. Nothing says relaxed atmosphere like a rule book for dinner, ugh. Since they charge extra for uneaten dishes, you can imagine we were quite irritated when on two occasions we were brought dishes that we had either ordered on a previous round already, or had not ordered at all. Both times that we IMMEDIATELY alerted the server and did not touch the order(you are not assigned a specific server for your table), we were met with an attitude and reluctance to remove the dish — even though the order card that remains on your table can clearly show your order history. The attitude was not appreciated. Furthermore, we had 2 bowls of edamame beans and the server came and removed the 2nd, brand new bowl(thinking it was shells I guess?) … another disappointment. Sushi was good quality and there is a good selection of items. However, watch out that you take note of the surcharge for sashimis, etc. — this is not the norm at Tokyo Café, and I find it a bit tacky. Overall, very beautiful restaurant, good sushi, and terrible service, just as other reviews have stated. Give Tokyo Café a try if you’re looking for a low hassle in a more casual atmosphere.

A new Sumo opened here a few months ago and I have to say, this is NOT Japanese food. It’s Japanese inspired fusion food. The food’s not bad, it’s just everything but authentic. The décor looks awesome, the staff is young and hectic and thus in turn, oblivious at times. They work with a checklist«all you can eat» system but restrictions apply, naturally. If you’re going here with a small group expecting food and not necessarily Japanese food, then you’ll have a good time if you’re somewhat tolerant of an, at times, chaotic service.
