Great dumplings, good service. Waitstaff very friendly and efficient. We’ve been a few times and the food is consistently good. It’s less spicy than menu indicates. Shrimp dim sum is the winner as well as fried rice.

Without a doubt the most authentic and best dim sum place in town. They have a special menu if you know Chinese(so bring your asian friends;-)), which features the good stuff. The food simply delicious, subtle and the prices are more than reasonable. We had 8 different plates, a load of beers and delicous jasmine tea and total was below EUR80. Just thinking of it makes me want to go back. Although its not for the glutenfree maffia, its worth cheating here ocassionally.

I’m sort of picky when it comes to Chinese Food. Not that I’m an expert, but I tend to go where the Chinese populace in my city go. The food is always good. But after so many visits to Amsterdam and a close friends hunger, we decided to try this spot. It’s always seemed iffy and flashy to me, but after realizing more than 50% of the customers where Asian, I knew I could trust the food here. I also use the same criteria for other Ethnic foods and Truck Stops. Truckers know where to eat. We flipped trough the menu and I was stunned by how many dishes I didn’t know. They had my mouth watering in no time. I wish we had been here for Dim Sum. I had a triple meat dish and my friend had a beef dish. Neither of the names spring to mind but i have photos. We enjoyed a couple of appetizers and then our main dishes which we shared. Some veg on the side and we were both very happy. I will be back here for every trip in the future. The best Chinese I’ve had away from the Western part of the US. Almost as good as my favorite spot in Arizona. Don’t be afraid of the area, you want go away disappointed if you eat here.

After a disappointing weekend of fancy dim sum(see my review here: ), I’m glad my colleagues suggested a visit to Oriental City. Now THIS is what I’ve been looking for in Amsterdam! We went on a weekday for lunch and were seated immediately but I hear that this isn’t the case on the weekends. Your typical dim sum ordering system of ticking off how many of each dish you want(a massive list with pics included) and dishes were brought out fast and piping hot. In fact, we ordered so much for our little group that the waiter found it necessary to tell us this and suggested we downgrade our order, oops. I found everything to be tasty and unchanged from typical recipes, nothing disappointed me — and even though I ate so much, I didn’t feel gross afterwards. This is a solid authentic dim sum spot and warrants repeat visits! Only strange thing is that upon paying, the waiters brought out the PIN machine and blatantly asked«how much do you want to put down for the tip?» — this is the ONLY restaurant in Amsterdam where I’ve heard this.

Dim Sum rocked! The service was fast and the food was hot. You definitely need reservations and preferably early because there were plenty of people waiting. I think our reservation was for noon for eight of us, maybe more. Our host who arranged the gathering kept ordering so the food kept coming. It was great. All of us had plenty to eat. We each paid separately which really didn’t amount to much considering how much we ate. I’ll have to go back and try them out for dinner or lunch.

Still the best dim sum you can find in Amsterdam! Huge multi stock restaurant. Child seats need replacement.

This is a rave-review! Not outside of San Francisco have I had dim sum this perfectly steamed and freshly prepared. Not a freezer in sight! Sticky rice was just as sticky as it should be, the steamed prawn dumplings, Ha Kauw, were PERFECTION. A 5 min wait was worth the wait and a most lovely waitress, all smiles and service. I am embaressed to say I had THREE ice teas but they were made on real black tea with sugar, ice and lemon and I couldn’t control myself! Turned out they were TWO euro a piece. A bargin! Also delish: the prawn springrolls and the Sieuw Mai! Go for it!

I’ve come here twice now. The first time I went for dim sum and the food was good though a bit overpriced(typical for Amsterdam) but the service was really rude. It took me a while before I would give it another try. I came again for dinner and the service was completely different. All staff we encountered were friendly and quick. The food was good too. Siu mau and crispy duck pancakes were particularly good. I would come back again if I had a craving for Chinese though would know that the service is hit and miss.

The place was packed with Asians and the long waiting line gave me the comforting feeling that this will be good. As the minutes of waiting passed by my expectations went through the roof. Did the dumplings meet my expectations? Well, I have to say almost. They were handmade and tasty. I would almost dare to say that this is as good as it can get in Europe. The assortment however wasn’t big and I would have liked to see a bigger variety to choose from(or maybe I’m just spoilt from my travels). Also, I would have liked to at least have the option to get a dip sauce to some of the dumplings and some of dishes had too thick dough. If you are used to the big dim sum houses in Asia or in the US for that matter, you might be in for a disappointment. There is however nothing to complain about regarding the taste here. The service was a bit poor and slow, but if I ever go to Amsterdam again, I will definitively go here again. Simply because I love dim sum and there aren’t that many good places around.

I am so happy that I found this place. I am a picky dim sum eater but this place really satisfied my cravings! I can honestly say that the dim sum at Oriental City is authentic and the food isn’t too greasy!

When you sit down you are greeted with about 6 different menus. Be sure to ask for the Dim Sum menu as this is what they are known for and they were great. Lots to choose from and we were not disappointed. Good value as well. We had a seat along the canal on the second floor with great views and delicious food.

Skip. Dim sum and lumpia were really bad. Ramen place across the street is a better bet than this. It’s is easy to get in and relativity quick so I guess there is that.

Seriously this is the best Chinese and dim sum in Amsterdam! Service was too notch, and the food was perfect! Thank you guys for redeeming dim sum in our eyes! We went from having the worst experience at the other place, to having the best dim sum of our lives. Please don’t think you will stop eating because you are full, the food is just amazing and you’ll want to order more.

Waiter was super pushy in trying to get us to buy Coca-Cola(I almost wrote coke, but didn’t want anyone to get confused — welcome to Amsterdam) when we sat down, which was really annoying. The food itself is ok, about what I was expecting for Amsterdam dim sum. The dim sum menu is more complete than I thought it would be, which is nice. An item we ordered failed to materialize but they were quick about removing it from the bill(I would’ve preferred that they served it, but we weren’t asked).

Unilocal, you wronged me here. You really really wronged me. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. I ordered the chicken chop suey and the spicy prawns dish. Spicy prawns was average, definitely three star worthy. Chicken chop suey? Disgusting. Beyond gross. The portions were generous except when it came to the white rice, super stingy. Service was friendly and food came out hot and fast. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish? I don’t know. I just know I will never go back to find out.

Yum! Can I leave a one-word review? Nah, I won’t do that! Want some dim sum? Visit Oriental City. There is so much to choose from. We ordered from the a la carte menu, but there is also the option of getting a group of dim sum for 2 or 4 people(but you aren’t able to choose which dishes they include). My favorite was the steamed pork buns. I wish I got more than two per order, but it’s probably best so that I could have more variety. The prawn and pork steamed dumplings were quite good and would have them over the beef dumplings, but that’s just my preference. Want a sweet ending but not too sweet? Get the sponge cake, it’s the perfect balance. My friend and I were extremely satisfied with our meal and are certainly glad we ended up here! In case you are wondering, English is on the menu. But you still have the problem of deciding which dishes you’ll choose! Good luck with that ;) Oh, and get the Chinese tea.

Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming at Oriental City. And was seated immediately. Food is nice and comes out piping hot. We had dimsum sharing plater, fried rice with prawns, pawn and egg. Also sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice. Drinks: Chinese tea and coke. Bill wasn’t pricey at all€ 48 for two people.

Ooh, I get hungry just thinking about this restaurant. Dimsum and dinner are both good and was never disappointed. Service is as all other Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam(or worldwide), but hey… They have good food! When you plan on having dimsum on Sunday, make reservations! It gets superbusy, people waiting in the staircase, etc. You’ll be laughing when you pass all of them and be seated immediately.

Had a very satisfactory experience here. I didn’t plan to eat Chinese food in Amsterdam but the dim sum was surprisingly delicious. No wonderful my local friends only have their weekend tea time here. It is obviously a popular place. We got there at 2pm but still had to wait for 20 minutes to get a table where oversaw the bridge over the canal. I went for my usual staff like Congee, dumplings, chicken feet etc. The price was a bit higher than we pay in Chicago. The food was very authentic which was absolutely perfect for me as I missed the real Chinese food for about two weeks. The service was quick and friendly. And I was told it is no necessary to leave the tip. Also try out the Chrysanthemum tea if you could. It goes so well with the dim sum.

Oriental City is in my opinion the best dim sum restaurant in Amsterdam and even in the Netherlands! No wonder that all the local Chinese people do want to enjoy the delicious dim sum here in this venue. I already came to this place since I was a baby… The service is really great/kind and very fast! And the people who work there still know me because I came there almost every weekend, which means the people there work already many years at this place. The owner of the restaurant even still work in the restaurant, which means he still put lots of effort in while it is very busy every day! So how is the food? Please do not choose from the Dutch/English menu, but only try the diverse Dim Sum menu. Lots to choose from and the most popular ones are: Sieuw Maai, Haa Kauw, Haa Cheung, Cha Sieuw Pao. Also try the traditional Chinese tea or their own-made Iced Tea which is amazing! Next to the upper 2 floors which is the Dim Sum restaurant which also serves dinner, you can also have a quick lunch or dinner at the first floor. The first floor is more casual lunch/dinner where they also have noodles soup! One of my favorite rice dish is Siew Je Fan which is served with roasted Duck, cha sieuw and pork! The prices are reasonable and if you with 2 persons it is common to have around 6 dishes for around 5 euro per dish. And yes: you can of course ask for a doggy bag if you want to bring the left overs at home! TIP: Please do go there in the weekend before 12 or 1PM, because otherwise you need to wait a long time to get a table.

Bien. Service et nourriture. Portions assez imposantes.
