Spiciest vindaloo in Amsterdam! Maybe even in kept of Europe. It’s been crazy cold in Amsterdam lately. One has to stay warm somehow. Mulled wine, beer, spicy Indonesian food, French fries! Many choices filled with spice and ethnic flare. But one can only eat fries and noodles for so long. Came here for lunch on New Year’s Eve. Happy 2015! It was freezing as usual. But I’m just glad they were open because most places aren’t. The place itself is small– ish yet cute, clean and charming. Food– they have lunch specials for pretty reasonable prices ranging from 7 to 12 euros. Most are wraps, salads and such. You can turn them into a plate as well. Pro Free mint Tea with Unilocal check in? Why thanks! Chicken tikka wrap~ super filling and good. Chicken vindaloo~ it is super spicy! And tastyyyyy. My tastebuds were singing vindaloo for a good few hours after :) It’s the real deal Indian spice that you get in India! At least that’s what the owner told us. She was friendly! My endorphins were super happy since I’m obsessed with fresh Thai Chillis! Or any peppers that’s hotter than Thai Chillis. Enjoyed it every bit! And they have free wifi! Talk about love! The only con I have is that they charge you 5 euros more for turning those wraps into a plate which came with rice instead of wrap and salad. I don’t think you necessarily get more meat but I thought it was a little steep considering you get the wraps for 7euros. Perhaps it is expensive to get basmati rice. I didn’t really see it in most places. But aside from that, I enjoyed every bit and bite of it. Oh so spicyyyy and fun!!! Will be back!!!

Loved the food. The service was not good. We made a reservation and when we arrived on time — we were told that they were waiting for patrons to finish up and go – totally understable ummmm except we were asked if we wouldnt mind going across the street to another bar and having a beer while we waited. There were empty tables in the restaurant so I asked if would could order a bottle of wine and sit while we waited for our table. We sat at the empty table and then another server came and said she didnt want to give us our bottle of wine becuase that table was reserved and we would have to leave when the party arrived. Ok– I really wanted to eat here and after being treated like this — still offered to stand against a wall with our bottle of wine and wait if necessary. We had to beg for our wine. Luckily a table became available. One of the owners tried to be a bit more attentive when we sat down. I felt really embarassed for recommending this place for a date. 66 Euros for a bottle of wine and 2 small entrees –the food was delicious — but I can get better customer service at FEBO

Homely food made by very homely and simple people. The hosts are a gracious family who will remember your visit even years hence. I have had dinner and lunch here and it has consistently been some very good food. The preparation is fresh and on-the-spot. Portions are good, too. I am a big fan of the saag paneer. The samosas make for a really good appetizer. The bhindi(okra) could have been better but it was still nice. The selection of breads is quite good, and I like the methi paratha. It is crisp and hot with a generous flavor of butter topping. Yummy! Oh, and the desserts are all great!

Also ein kurzes Lunch. Nichts Versautes. Dann lieber einmal richtig: D

Lunch, Lunch, Baby! But besides this — sehr fein!

Appears to be a family operation. Very friendly, warm, soothing atmosphere with delicious Indian food, although pretty mild unless you explicitly ask for spicy. Had chicken tikka, Kingfisher, expresso, homemade icecream, dinner includes rice and peas with potatoes, total cost 32 €. Was quite busy when I was there on a Saturday evening, but the dining room was still quiet.

OMG deliciousness. When I think of Indian for lunch I think of too much heavy food for that time of day. But their lunch menu is perfect — sandwiches and wraps made w tandoori chicken and yogurt sauce, yum! Extremely tasty and satisfying. I also had the chai tea which was good, but the cookie that came w it was amazing! Great service, great food, you won’t regret having lunch here!

The food is great here. To be honest I was a little suspicious at first because when I walked in everything was very quiet, but it just meant the atmosphere was serene. I definitely look forward to coming back again. Although the menu does not reflect ideal for people with food allergies. The owners are very much accommodating when it comes to serving people with multiple allergies. I really appreciated that about them when it came to customer service. They toke their time in helping me find a meal that was just suited perfect for me. Their menu has a fusion style to it, where it serves sandwich, soups, and Indian dishes cooked to perfection.

Sandwich it is… The owner’s daughter told me that most people go for the wrap. But when they ask you if you want your order on a sandwich or a wrap, please go for the sandwich! Otherwise you’ll be like my lunch date and when asked how everything is forced to say okay, but hers looks better… and yes, mine was better cause unlike him I went for the sandwich =p The bread was perfect. Crunchy on the outside but not too hard and still light & fluffy on the inside. The wrap looked kind of bland, think it would be more interesting if they used naan instead of a plain tortilla type wrap. Can’t find anything at fault with this luncheon really, except that they used chicken breast instead of thighs and I prefer the sandwich to be warmer.

I love discovering new places! I had no idea this place existed. It has actually been here for almost 30 years as an Indian restaurant and in the last 3 months the owner’s daughter took over the place only for the lunch time hours. She warmly greeted us and chatted with us. So it is an Indian fushion lunch place and then a full blown proper Indian restaurant for dinner! The daughter wanted to mix Indian with Dutch or western lunch items. Genius! Ok well I’m sure it’s been done before in many cities but I believe this is the first one that exists in Amsterdam! I’m always a HUGE fan for yummy mom and pop restaurants. They completely reinvented themselves during the day and did an interior make over to the whole place. The daughter did a super job designing the interior. They paid attention to details. Even the menu had beautiful details such as handmade sheet of tree bark paper as one side. Throw in some vintage cool and some Indian savior faire and voila an exotic fresh interior is born! Ok now onto the food. Since we knew we were in an Indian fushion restaurant we couldn’t be bothered by any western type of lunch. Forget their traditional Dutch sandwiches or salads unless it was«indianized»! And there was a good amount to choose from. We had the chicken tandoori wrap with yogurt mint sauce, paneer wrap with carmelized onions, lentil soup and a chai tea of course. The lentil soup had a lemon slice in it and it was so subtly perfect! The tandoori wrap was well spiced with a fantastic mint yogurt sauce. Enough heat to let you know it was there. The paneer wrap had healthy chunks of salty cheese that was well matched with the sweeter carmelized onions. The whole time we were eatting we couldn’t stop telling each other how much flavor everything had! We wanted to try a slice of cake that the daughter makes herself. She use to have a cake business before she took over lunch hours at her fathers business. We were bummed we had no room for dessert but it gave us a reason to come back. Also to try dinner! Excellent food, excellent service and an excellent ambiance. The perfect combination for 5 stars… Duh

What a surprise !! Great food, super friendly service and a lovely interior. Had lunch and oh boy! So much flavor and nicely presented. Anyone who happens to be in the area of the Utrechtse straat during lunch time, give yourself a super tasty lunch. Next time dinner, can’t wait!!!

Really cute spot for my first meal after arriving in Amsterdam! Great coffee/breakfast/drink options, along with Indian food options for lunch. The Heavenly Special and the Chicken Tikka Masala were both excellent. Also got great advice for places to stop in Amsterdam from Pamela, who was so sweet and helpful.

Tagore is one of the reasons why I now like Indian food. Well… ok… maybe it’s also because I was with a British guy on a business trip with a per diem and who thinks of Indian food as a treat. Add to that I was forced to eat Indian food for 4 straight days because of him. But that’s not taking anything away from the deliciousness of the food at Tagore. I got the Kadhai Gosht Curry(14.80 Euros) which was a spicy lamb curry and, sucker that I am for anything spicy, I made it Vindaloo(extra hot). This was one of the most surreal spicy food experience I’ve ever had. The lamb would burn everything that it touches while in my mouth and as I swallowed but afterwards there would be no lingering pain usually associated with spicy foods. The burning sensation in the bathroom the next day was also non-existent with this curry. So all the wonderful flavors of a spicy dish without the nasty side effects. Nice! The dish came with pilao rice which nicely complemented the highly spiced dish. We also got nan, cheese nan and garlic nan for everyone. All were wonderful foils to the spiciness of my dish and also served to sop up some of the heat. After dinner, instead of being given mints, we were given a mixture of fennel, anise and other seeds. I guess it was supposed to freshen our breath and supposedly aid digestion. It was OK. I would rather have a mint but that’s just my opinion.
