Deshima

had a very tasty bowl of soup. my husband had the special of the day. they even have a macrobiotic shop below. right next to the museums. couldn’t ask for more!

I would love to give deshima a five star review. But I can’t go higher than a generous 2. Here’s why.
The staff is friendly but service is beyond slow.
I waited over 20 minutes for lunch which I find unacceptable. I have generally less than 40 minutes to dedicate to my lunch break and I prefer spending it eating not waiting.
The food is way over priced.
Yes. It might be organic and macrobiotic but it does not measure up to the quality I would expect to get when I pay € 18 for my lunch. Inc. soup. But still.
The food was tasteless and partly inedible.
Do you remember when healthy food meant it was lacking in taste and texture? Even people had the idea that healthy food should be bland? Well. If you liked that you’ll love this food. I got rice (that I actually really liked) with some kind of tofu in, beets in vinaigrette (meh) and… a snotty gooey sauce with tofu and vegetables in. It was just like a slimy, completely tasteless, mess that I don’t think was meant to be put in anyone’s mouth. Blergh. AND I PAID € 18 FOR IT!
Having said that. The place seemed to have quite a few regulars so it might not be them, but me. Either way — they can have their bland food all to themselves. I am NOT going back.
