Eat At Jo’s

Whenever a place is listed/​advertised as being specifically vegan or vegan friendly, I feel like I need to check it out.
E@J’s always has a solid vegan dish — a couple of times it was a little heavy on the potatoes, but always with high quality ingredients and good flavors.
Particularly good if you are catching a show at the Melkweg or one of the other nearby venues.

In Uptown gelegen ist dieser wirklich empfehlenswerte Laden der trotz Größe mit Atmosphäre glänzt.
Zu erst einmal muss ich sagen das auch wenn die Karte recht klein gehalten ist, es Auswahl sowohl für Veganer/​Vegetarier und Fleisch Esser gab.
Es war möglich als Veganer mit jmd essen zu gehen der gerne Fleisch möchte, was gerade wenn das Gegenüber nicht verzichten möchte manchmal doch schon ein wenig schwierig sein kann.
Die Bedienung war freundlich, schnell am Tisch und auch allg recht positiv eingestellt.
Das Restaurant/​Die Bar war geschmackvoll mit diversen Kunst Objekten eingerichtet.
Die Getränke Karte war übersichtlich und auch von den Preisen her fand ich es völlig okay.
Schade zu allen muss ich nur sagen, das ich eine Pilz Suppe bei der leider klar zu sehen war das es sich nur um Dosen bzw Pilze aus dem Glas handelte und die Suppe allg recht Pfad gewürzt war, somit die knapp 5Euro eigentlich nicht wert war.
Der Hauptgang, damals war es Reis mit Marokkonischem Gemüse und einem kleinen Salat dazu war von der Portion und Geschmack hingegen wieder 1a.
Ich muss großen und ganzen sagen, das ich es schade fand diesen Laden erst am letzten Abend gefunden zu haben.

This is our absolute favourite restaurant in Amsterdam.
Melkweg Café is not a place for fancy night-​outs. No white table clothes, snobby waitresses with bows or «gourmet minuscule a la magnifique» dishes here. Melkweg Café (a.ka. Eat At Jo’s) is all about sincere staff, laidback atmosphere and delicious comfort food in BIG portions for a modest price. Staff is super friendly and unpretentious.
Whenever we talk about going to Melkweg Café, big smiles appear on our faces, and that’s for a reason.

Jo’s was recommended to me by a friend, and after several days of mixed experiences with Dutch food, we thought we would check it out. A great experience from Jo, Erik and and gang! The venue is fairly small, and is attached to the Milkweg (a concert hall near the Leidseplein). Many of the artists have eaten there before or after the show (we’re not star seekers, but neat nonetheless).
The menu changes every night, and has selections from around the world. Jo and Erik are from Wisconsin, and moved to Amsterdam several years ago. The choices tend to lean towards the comfort food side, and the servings are enough to fill you up. There is usually at least one vegetarian choice (as a nod to Erik, the resident vegetarian).
We have two children and the folks at Eat at Jo’s were happy to come up with something that would satisfy their picky palate.
Don’t forget to sample their assortment of Dutch and Belgian beers — Erik is a big beer fan and is always getting something new on tap (or in the bottle).
The crowd is mostly local, but English is (as in most places in Amsterdam) the primary language.
If it seems that this review has a familial tone to it, it’s true. After one meal we felt likes friends… after two meals it was almost like family!

Don’t try to get in through the entrance of Melkweg CLUB, but walk around it and look for it at Marnixstraat, at 409. It’s next to the Melkweg GALLERY and worth finding out its exact location. I’ve been here a few times with my friends –musicians– from the music scene and I loved it. The lady servicing us seems to be American and has a hilarious sense of humor. The food is all deliciously self made and fresh. Their vegetarian and especially vegan dishes are fantastic! I’m not a vegetarian, but I just love their vegan dishes! So tasty and creative!
