Decent chinese restaurant. Of course, it doesn’t compare to the chinese food quality from San Francisco, but it was good. Especially good since I’ve been eating fries and Mayo + burger or sandwich for 2 weeks. Definitely worth a try if you are feeling asian food while in Amsterdam.

As a Chinese, I would say the food here is mediocre, disappointing if compared to the pics in the menu. Mandarijin is better, though more expensive

This place was a treat and a surprise. My wife and I make a habit out of trying Chinese food in different cities around the world(Lisbon: okay, Verona: terrible) and this was the best since Sydney, including our regular Sichuan place in DC and a phenomenal Sichuan restaurant in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. A spicy lamb dish was suffused with Sichuan pepper and the dandan noodles were great. Dishes cooked in oil were’t oil logged which was a bonus. The«one pepper» dishes(e.g. dandan noodles) were a little less hot than I’d expect but still flavorful. (And in Europe if you want tap water you need to explicitly order tap water. But just order the tea if you’re hear, the pot is one price no matter how much you whine.)

second visit to this resturant was even better than the first exprience. on recommendation of the hotel management I ordered kangpao beef the dish was served hot and with rice. flavour wise was on a milder side. personally I would have prefered a little sauce however the meat was chrispy and tender and dish presentation was great. the dish was more closely related to chrispy beef. over all exprience is that this place needs a paying a visit when you are around amsterdam centraal

Honestly, I can’t speak to anything else on the menu, but the palace eggplant and kunpao tofu are so good that I have had dreams about them, and return to this place every time I come to Amsterdam to order them again.

There’s no Chinatown in Amsterdam, but there are a couple of truly authentic, well-maintained Chinese restaurants in the red light district. Sichuan is one of them. The décor is colorful while not ostentatious, the servers are polite and always checking on you, and the food is truly delicious. I came here twice during a cold Amsterdam winter and filled my belly with tasty, spicy Sichuan food. Lots of vegetarian options as well. A good place to get a break from the excess of the red light district!

came here after reading all the very positive reviews, and ended up leaving very upset. now I wonder how legit those reviews really are… being ethically chinese coming from canada, the quality of food here sucks. i dont understand how ppl coming from the states(San fran!?) would appreciate this. c’mon, you guys have much better than this! First of all, price is quite steep for the portion given. 6.5 euro for 5 flat/meatless dumplings, and 10.95 euro for a HALF-filled bowl of noodle are crazy! even restaurants in Paris are more generous than that. we ordered«2 cups of water» and the dude server brought us two tiny bottles, which later turned out to be 3 euros each. well, I am OK with paying for things that I expect to pay for, but this made me feel robbed. So, unless you are ok with paying 3 euro for a bottle of water, make sure to ask for FREETAPWATER when you order with the server. i was also told people«should» order drinks with their meals in europe, and that every restaurant in europe charge for water. I googled, none of the statements is true. if I’m paying at the end of the meal, I get to decide what I drink.

Walked into this place without knowing anything about it. Was very happy with the food, service and atmosphere. This was the best Chinese food I’ve ever had.

I am used to szechuan food from chinatown, chicago, which is usually good but this definitely tops that. The food was flavorful, very quick, and tender. I got the sliced chicken with rice and the spicy dumplings. I ordered the dumplings as an appetizer but the chicken was served first. This has happened to me a few times in Europe so it was ok. Both were fantastic. No regrets. A note to Americans expecting typical Chinese food, this is NOT it. Szechuan is very different, in fact better in my opinion.

I was introduce to this restaurant by my «Asian connection» in Amsterdam. This little gem is hidden amongst one of the most touristy and in my opinion, least desirable places in Amsterdam. That being said Sichuan offers great traditional Chinese, from the sichuan region, food. This regions cuisine is characterised by the use of hot spices almost in every dish. The Sichuan dumplings, the Mongolian beef and the Chinese broccoli are among a my favourite dishes. If Ij doubt, ask the staff as they are very helpful and always willing to help. I have been going to this place pretty much since I moved to Amsterdam and the only floss I have noticed is that as it has become more popular the prices have gone up.

Great atmosphere, but disappointing dishes. Dishes were full of peppers(not red peppers) and all we tasted was peppers… and oil. Sorry, but I needed point this out.

Food is not fresh. Service is arrogant and rude, we used to sit well in a table, but we were«kicked off» to another smaller table by the boss, in the meantime there were 2 Italian guests siting in a 4 seats’ table. It seems that the Asian boss will treat Asian clients as 2nd class customers, because they are not«whited». won’t go there for a 2nd time.

Found this place after a red light district tour. Excellent atmosphere and service. They staff was very attentive. Had the sesame chicken and it was incredible. Also, other people with me had fried rice and noodles, and also enjoyed their meals. Would definitely return if back in the area.

The Sichuan dish is absolutely authentic, the owner is from Chengdu. If you want to taste the real China, come to this restaurant.

Signs that this restaurant is authentic: — full of Chinese people(specifically Northern Chinese people, yes… there is a difference) — the waitress tried to persuade a group of Dutch people not to order certain dishes because they wouldn’t be able to handle the spice –they give you chopsticks by default This restaurant brought back a ton of nostalgic memories of studying in China. The food was delicious and spicy dishes were actually spicy. TIP: I am a weakling when it comes to spicy food but Sichuan is well-known for their peppers so order 1 dish(with 1 pepper rating) and the rest not-spicy to even out the heat. Food: 4⁄5 Recommendations: Any of the sizzling hot plates Sichuan dishes are the highlight of this restaurant, but they also do the other dishes surprisingly well Palace Eggplant — classic Sichuan dish Service: 3⁄5 Service is typical Chinese, fast and efficient. Atmosphere: 4⁄5 The restaurant is surprisingly pretty on the inside, full of Asian decorations. It had a modern feel which I would not normally associate with such tasty food… Value: 4⁄5 You can eat a lot for very little. The food here is tasty and you will leave with a full belly. We ordered 3 dishes for the 2 of us(because we were starving), and left happy for about 20 euros/person.

What a grand thing to see so many vegetarian options. My favorite, go to dish, is the mapo tofu. Just the right amount of by with the creaminess of the tofu. A Nother good one is the Chinese broccoli. Also in a very nice sauce with spicy peppers. I originally found this place through a recommendation of a Chinese girl I work with. She raved about it I wanted to give it a try. Since then it has been around five trips now. The one last night was with for colleagues of mine. Each of them ordered something out and they all loved the food. The crispy duck in particular look pretty good. The restaurant seems to be in a very touristy area, but don’t let that sit for you from the experience. The staff have always been really friendly and the interior is designed sort of fun. Kind of feel a Chinese restaurant should have. I will certainly be back again.

Who would have thought this would be a winner? It’s smack dab in the center of the red lights, featuring seriously red, red-walls and lanterns. The eggplant, duck and spicy pork dumplings are the bomb. The price is reasonable, and the service is great(though I was with a Chinese speaking friend, and feel this was an advantage :) Would go again!

I myself am a Chinese, i think the food there are quite Classic Sichuan food, and the price is fair enough. Have been there with friends many times, for birthday dinner, for a little chatting, to treat my friend coming who only like to eat chnese food. Several dishes i like very much, cannot remember the English name, but it is beef, fried and very soft. And the fish soup is nice also

«A chili lover is a good lover, who dances and enjoys the madness of love, and does so with great care and a tender heart. A good chef makes chili dishes with such love and let the special taste last forever.» The above text is an excerpt from the memoires of the Si Chuan menu circa some year that is irrelevant to this review. No seriously, this is what is written below the«Chicken Dishes» part of the menu along with other random passages sprinkled throughout the menu. Thanks to a tip from another fellow Unilocaler, my hound nose was pointed in the direction of this Sichuan establishment on the tattoo/coffee shop/junk food/assless-underwear lined street known as the(in)famous Warmoesstraat. I have to admit that I was excited to try this place because to my knowledge, it’s the only Sichuan place in Amsterdam! So anyone looking to try something different than the typical Chinese food(Cantonese) you’ll find in the city, needs to Si-check this place out! Naturally I had to come with a fellow Asian in order to have another pair of slanted eyes and animé mouth, and we were both looking forward to burn-my-face-off spicy food that Sichuan is so famous for. We ordered Steamed Beef, Royal Fish, Mountain Sliced Beef(described as village food), and Yellow River Chicken. Steamed Beef — Interesting! Not sure what the flavors were and it was yummy, but if you order this too, you will open the wood steamer and think… hmmm… interesting! Royal Fish — Fried fish in an interesting sauce. Again, I say interesting because I liked it, but I can’t quite describe the flavor! Mountain Sliced Beef — Average and had no spice… I mean, King Dennis is more used to royal food and not food of the common peasants! Yellow River Chicken — ok… this, I was NOT pleased with. We asked for the spiciest thing on the menu, and we were told THIS dish. In addition, the strange chef comments from the menu say the following: «madly hot, madly enjoyable, madly attractive, for those who don’t like spice, don’t have a life!» Ok, you have to kind of giggle at the last part… Out of 10 chili peppers, I would give this 0. Like… 0.0. What the fukumi-fukuyu happened!!! There were dried red and green chilies and Sichuan peppers sprinkled all over the chicken and in order to get some spice out of it, I had to shove these peppers in my mouth with the chicken and only THEN was it semi-kind-of-but-not-kind-of spicy. So why four stars? HUGE menu with very interesting items Legit Sichuan(I’ve been to this region of China a couple of times and definitely fits the bill) NOT Cantonese food(Cantonese is great, but it dominates the world of Chinese food overshadowing others!) Most dishes are cooked with chilis, but more importantly, they use the Sichuan pepper! Don’t know what that is? Come check it out here!!! Despite the non-spiciness, I really enjoyed the flavors of all our dishes! I will be back because I want to try many other things on the menu, however I want to warn you readers one more time; don’t come here expecting spicy food! Go have some Madame Jeanette dishes from Indonesian places instead! Oh and make sure to get Sichuan dishes and not things like Peking duck… And if you don’t like spice at all… get a life!!! … says the Sichuan chef :)

A promising Chinese restaurant I. must say it’s.really authentic. The food. was really yiami and not adjusted to the Dutch palette… Though the spicy dishes are not as spicy as promised which made my friends a bit grumpy but since I can’t eat spicy I think. it’s ok… All in all I definitely suggest it for an Chinese night out
