Amazing burger joint, offering a variety of unique creations, including beef, lamb, chicken, and vegetarian burgers. The place is really close to the Amsterdam Zoo. If you are visiting the zoo, consider having lunch here.

Finally, something culinary that the Dutch can be proud of! I’m originally from Texas and spent three years living in NL a while back while going to university there. I was never all that impressed with Dutch food, especially with their foods meant to mimic my American favorites from back home. I once went to a «mexican» restaurant that tried to pass off Thai sweet chili sauce as salsa, for instance, and barbecue sauce usually tasted like ketchup with powdered cinnamon and cumin mixed in. As a result, I didn’t eat out much, and by the end of my time in Holland, I had taught myself how to recreate the burgers, Tex-Mex, and BBQ that I missed from home, and even earned the nickname of «burgermeester» from my classmates for my bacon-blue cheese-barbecue burger that was a hit at parties(but very different from what one could find in Dutch restaurants). On a recent visit to see old friends in Holland, my buddy suggested that we go get burgers for dinner from the Burgermeester. I expressed my skepticism in the most diplomatic way possible, but he insisted that the burgers were legit. He had lived in the US for a while as well, so he knew good burgers and I felt that I could trust his judgment. The unassuming little shop in the sleepy and residential plantagebuurt really exceeded my expectations and changed the way I think about the Dutch culinary scene. The interior was modern, yet a bit crowded and claustrophobic, but no more cramped than any other business in the densely-populated city center. The menu had a diverse range of options going beyond the typical burger-cheeseburger-turkey burger-bacon cheeseburger range into more adventurous options like a burger patty made from manchego and walnuts, a spanish lamb burger, and a lentil and goat cheese burger, among others. I opted for the manchego walnut, which was served with a chutney(mango, I think, but I can’t remember exactly). It was perfect: well-balanced, unique, and overall delicious. I loved it so much that I had to go back one more time before my short stint in Amsterdam was over, and I got the Spanish lamb burger my second time around. It was also amazing. I will absolutely go back next time I’m in Amsterdam, and I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Amsterdam. I also noticed that the restaurant has a rotating menu and a cookbook full of past recipes, many of them quite creative. This restaurant, combined with a range of other fantastic new dining options in Amsterdam(not to mention the burgeoning craft beer scene) has made me question my old view of Dutch cuisine. Perhaps the Dutch are moving beyond their old ways and embarking on the same culinary revolution that has taken off in the states in the last decade.

The place is a little bit far away from the city center by walking. But their burgers are delicious enough to be a little bit tired. U must try their corn apart from burgers.

Burgermeester was the only burger I tried while in Europe, and I don’t know if the traditional American burger style translates across the pond, so there could be some differences between my expectations and what is considered a good burger in Amsterdam. That being said, both my chicken burger and my husband’s beef burger were undercooked, and it was hard to enjoy the meal because of this. Mine was a ground chicken patty, and this was especially troubling, and I didn’t eat part of the burger. When we approached the staff about how red my husband’s burger was in the middle, the woman who prepared it started to apologize, but the manager jumped in very quickly. She assured us repeatedly that in Europe, beef does not have to be cooked well done, and that she was sure his burger was perfect. It was pretty darn red in the middle, and with the pink still in my burger I’m sure they were just not cooked fully. This aside, neither of us were crazy about the toppings on the burgers either. My chicken burger came with sweet and sour marinated cucumber slices, and it didn’t taste great and also mostly just slid right out of the burger. My husband’s burger was topped with egg, which translated to a mountain of strangely seasoned egg salad, most of which also slid out all over the place. Perhaps if we were looking for something a little more adventurous or different for our burgers this would have been exciting, but really, our lunch at Burgermeester was probably the worst meal of our vacation.

I got the mini trip to try a little bit of everything and I am not disappointed. The tuna burger was by far the best, but the lamb and monthly special were both great. Very clean and polite, but no alcohol. I would highly recommend going out of your way to get here!

If you’re one of those with a very specific idea about what a good burger is and should be, then this place is probably not for you. These people threw the rulebook on burgers out a long time ago. I love a good classic burger, but this is just a great. I’ll gladly join the little choir singing the praise of the veggie burgers, in my case specifically the falafel burger with the wonderful tomato salsa.

Great burgers, easy quick service. I’m vegetarian and really enjoyed my burger. It was nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy our burgers in the sunshine and people watch. Good value for money.

This place is the legendary burger place of Amsterdam, and it holds to it’s reputation! Let me start by saying i’m a vegetarian so I’ve only tried their veggie options, which are AMAZING. If you’re a veggie then you know that when you order the vegetarian option in a burger place it’s not always great, and more often than not, it’s just a store bought burger soy patty. It’s not the case with Burgermeester. They have two great vegetarian options! My favorite is the goat cheese one, which is so amazingly tasty. My boyfriend had a cheeseburger and he said it was the best one he’s had in the city. So that says something! The bread is so crunchy and soft, and tastes super fresh. I love the décor of the place, it’s small, with 3 comfortable booths inside and some places to sit outside. Everything is clean and it’s easy to order as they prepare the food super close to you, so you can see everything that’s going on! :) I just didn’t like the fact that are a bunch of cow pictures with the animals staring into your soul hahaha let me tell you im not one of those kind of vegetarians but that just felt a bit weird. If i was eating a cow burger I would definitely feel a bit off. Kind of morbid, but it’s a minor detail.

Fast wie in Berlin. Die Burgerauswahl ist klassisch und übersuchtlich gut. Für alle was dabei!

It is considered legendary in Amsterdam’s burger circles and I finally had a chance to try it out for myself. I am a vegetarian. There are two choices on the menu — a red lentil burger and a goat cheese burger, made entirely of cheese and some herbs. We went with the lentil patty and hot darn it was delicious. I almost wanted another one until I realized I had had too much food! The patty tasted fresh and nicely done, with just about the right amount of condiments to not make my bun soggy by half time. The taste was something I have ever had before in the world of portobello and black bean burgers. The burger was topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, plenty of caramelized onions, and some sauce. You’d imagine that fries would be a big hit with burgers, but I didn’t see anyone having them. The burgers also come in the ‘mini’ varieties which might possibly make them even more handy. The little refrigerator is stocked with some kinds of flavored lemonades and root beer, all organic, which is Amsterdam’s current fad. I’d love to make this a weekly habit.

I’ve ordered a burger royal with egg, cheddar cheese and without bacon + a coke, cost me around 12.5 € I’ve received my burger in less than 10 minutes, nicely presented. Burger was cooked medium so it was extra juicy, I could taste all the ingredients and it was fabulous! It makes u question how Macdonalds existed in the first place Service was great and chef and waiter were extra courteous and welcoming Place has 3 booths inside and a couple of benches outside, it would be hard to get a place to sit during everyday evenings however it was raining outside so I managed to share a booth with a stranger, the things we do for burgers these days huh?! Lol This Is my 3rd visit and this keeps getting better and better. Well done burger masters ;) !!

The name says it all. «Burger Master.» I used to go to Burger Bar in Amsterdam but it was before I knew of this beauty, Burger Meester. My friend suggested that we go to Burger Meester instead of Burger Bar. I am forever in my friend’s debt for introducing me to Burger Meester. The place is small and neat. I like how the walls are white and there is a huge window. Some might find it uneasy to be eating a burger while there are black and white photos of cows looking at you. I had no problem. I actually only noticed the cows staring at me with their soul-less blink after I have finished my burger. The 2 times I’ve been there, I ordered the«Meester Biefburger.» The buns at Burger Meester are soft inside and I believe they toast it so there is a nice crunchy outer layer. The eggplant, onions and the other veggies are in the burger. The meat is great. Everything is great really. I wish I had more adjectives to describe the burgers here. I would ditch the fork and knife. Just going full hands-on with my burger while sauce drips down my hands with each glorious bite I take. They also have the option of making the burger of your choice salad. And if you’re not into eating beef, they have vegetarian options as well as chicken burgers. I have yet to try out the mini burger options where they serve 3 mini burgers of your choice.

It is a personal mission of mine to find the best burgers in each city I visit. When I came to Amsterdam, my girlfriend told me a few places she’d like to take me. I had a taste for a burger one night, and Burger Meester was fortunately close to the apartment I rented for the week. We went in at 9 pm(open until 11, which was an excellent discovery), and it was basically empty. We each ordered the namesake burger on white rolls and received them in under 10 minutes. These burgers are huge — seriously. They came with a large assortment of grilled vegetables and«dragon mayo,» their own special sauce. It was sublime. So good, in fact, that we returned two nights later. They offer larger-than-typical tap water for free also, which is a big plus. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a Five Guys or something like that. As far as American-style burger joints in Amsterdam go, this one is right at the top.

Super nice service. My friend and I like the onion on the burger. But still, it is moderate for a classic lamb burger…

Best burger i’ve had in europe thus far. I had the grilled vege beef burger and it took me to a place not so long ago in the streets of Berlin where the fumes of diesel mixed with the pheromones of younglings staying at the nearby hostel standing in line at all hours of the day and early morning for a mere 15 min kiss of bliss from Mustafas. Thats right, my burger tasted like my favourite kebab place and it was heavenly. I didn’t know anything about the meat being ‘conscience friendly’ or whatever, it was plain old AMAZING burger. BOMB, can’t wait to go back.

I don’t care if you have the best or more«conscience friendly» beef, there’s no excuse for a dry patty camouflaged under tons of bread and veggies. I know, I know, not everybody likes their burgers medium rare. And not everybody agrees it is safe. Yet, there’s no excuse for a dry patty. Don’t believe me? Take a small piece of meat from your burger, and try eating it alone. I did, and it was gross. Some seasoning, no juice. The ingredients are indeed fresh, and the combinations are interesting, but it didn’t work at all for me.

Part of the Burgermeester(wordplay on the word for mayor and«burger master») chain. Student-staffed with small burger menu that offers costumers conscious choices. Some good veggie options and high quality beef, lamb and chickenburgers. No fries. Fresh shakes and biological lemonade(Bionade).

As a burger loving family we needed to check this out. It is definitely worth every penny. Wow. What great burgers. Freshly made, superb ingredients and tasteful. Wish I lived in Amsterdam again.
