We have been to this place four times and have reasonably good experiences each time, which admittedly has always been on relatively slow nights. The service is typical of Dutch restaurants(i.e. don’t expect much), but we found the food to be quite good. Between two of us, we’ve had the quinoa burger, entrecôte(no bun), lamb burger(no bun), and a few other mains and sides. All were quite good. Would like to see gluten-free buns on the menu, but apart from that, we enjoyed the food on all of our visits.

I wouldn’t normally write an update so soon, but I feel I have to. The last time was iffy and this time we just wanted some drinks(cocktails) and maybe a dessert so we figured it would be fine. Wrong. While the ladies who were serving the tables were nice enough, we were told that we could not order cocktails or milkshakes because they took too long to make and it was busy and would take away the service for the other customers. What is that about?! So, it seems there is no bartender there all the time and servers have to make drinks. The server who was handling our table seemed new and said she didn’t know how to make cocktails and she asked the other woman who explained the situation of time vs. other customers. We were told that maybe they could make them in a half hour(that didn’t happen as they were still too busy). Our friends ordered the dessert for two which included a chocolate lava cake… But was over-done so it was no longer liquid. Just so many fails that I really couldn’t believe it. I really hope other have a better experience, but I will not be going back. I’m sorry but to not serve items on the menu because they take too long is ridiculous — — then they just shouldn’t be on the menu!

Avoid at all cost! Food doesn’t have taste and service is not that good. Our order got mixed up twice! There are tables where you have your own beer tap, but the beer isn’t good(feels watered down).

I am always a fan of burger restaurants that allow you to customize burgers and put veggie patties on any burger. We came to Bar-B on a cold, rainy night, and the yummy food warmed us up. The fries and onion rings didn’t automatically come with any condiments(ketchup or mayo) like they do in North America, but the attentive staff was happy to bring them for us.

Not only was the staff inattentive, but I was given the wrong order and they wouldn’t change our bill. They were very rude when we questioned them and charged us for things we didn’t order. The manager asked my friend if she«had a bigger problem because she seemed tense.» We were not rude to them in any way, so we shouldn’t have been treated with such disrespect.

Let me tell you a story of tragedy and woe. Where to weary travelers from The US decided to have a burger in Amsterdam. We went to the place thinking this was a great concept, one that we had seen successful in our hometowns. The seat yourself philosophy was lost on this place as our waiter had no idea we had even arrived. After trying many times to flag him down, when we finally got his attention is was clear that we were the jerks for interrupting his time there. This guy was quite possibly the worst waiter I have had on this entire trip, but the issues were systemic. He took our burger order slips with out explaining anything(for a burger I was dying to eat I might add) then came back half an hour later all casual asking if we were ever going to order. He had obviously lost the order slips. This place could benefit from a good manager. Someone should have noticed the lack of food going to my table I left paying 10 Euro for a coke and onion rings I did not order and fries I did not get. Can’t speak for the food, but if service matters to you even remotely, stay clear of this place.

The burgers at Bar B are good. As delicious as a burger that you crafted yourself could be. All the options that one could ever want on a burger. However, my evening at Bar B turned out to be highway robbery. My friend and I sat at one of the tables with a built in beer tap. We were given beer glasses for the tap, no explanation. We each drank a few half-full glasses from the tap, and the tap meter said 1,4 L by the end of the meal. We paid for the meal, realized that it was ridiculously expensive for how much we ate and drank, and went back to see why. We were charged for the tap table. Okay, fair enough. But, then, we were charged for 4×1 liter of beer. € 40 for 4 liters of beer that we didn’t even drink. We tried to speak to the ‘manager’, who told us that we could say whatever, he was just charging us for what the tap said and there was nothing to be done. When we repeatedly pointed out that it clearly said 1,4 L on the tap, and clearly said 4 L on the bill, AND no one told us anything about the system at the start of the meal, he repeatedly cut us off saying«This conversation is going nowhere. Have a good weekend honey.» This happened multiple times. He was incredibly rude, and even walked off mid-conversation to complain about us to the other waitresses while we were standing there. We asked if we could at least have the rest of the theoretical 4 liters that we paid for, and he wouldn’t even give us that. What could have been a good evening ended up being incredibly unpleasant and painfully expensive. The burgers at Bar B are worth it, but beware if you order anything else.

Fits right in on a street filled with mediocre restaurants. There’s nothing special about the regular burgers, although my lamb burger did have a nice flavor. The portobello version was one of a couple veggie options, but not a very flavorful one. You can choose the size of your burger as well as your toppings, but there’s apparently only one size of bun(large), so it’s likely that you’ll have a lot of sad, tasteless bread left on your plate. The main problem, though, was the service, which is glacial even by Dutch standards. It took 45 minutes to deliver 5 burgers at lunchtime. It’s hard to believe the kitchen is really that slow. Maybe they hoped we would order more Heinekens while we waited. Or maybe the kitchen staff went out to eat?

El peor servicio de la historia. 1:45 horas para que sirvan 4 hamburguesas hasta que nos levantamos y nos fuimos. Excusas, malas contestaciones e ineptitud en sus camareros. Evitar a toda costa

Quite close to Leidseplein, it is nice to have dinner before partying. There are too many restos surrounding but this one has a menu adaptable to every taste: burgers, pizza, etc. I have got a Quinoa Burger. As bolivian I know very well quinoa and I must say that burger is very far from quinoa taste. I would have rather got a normal burger. It was clearly frozen so the quinoa taste is absolutely lost. «There are no fridges in The Andes» Service was very kind but very slow. Not a problem of the waiters but the manager. 3 people attending 2 floors? The manager should have foreseen that is not enough. So we had to have patience to have our food and… to have the bill! I would recommend it if is the only place available in Leidseplein.

Quel burger !

I pretty much stumbled into here on a rainy Monday night after I had got into the city and then decided to take the tram to the Leidseplein area of Amsterdam. I got a seat at the bar and ordered a Heineken, of course. They also had free Wi Fi which I was happy to have. I then just ordered a French onion soup and another Heineken. The beer was quick, but the soup did take quite awhile to come out. The service was a little inattentive on a not too busy night, but I wasn’t in a hurry to get anywhere, so I didn’t mind much. The soup was alright once it arrived, but it was slightly bland and was glad I only paid like 5 euros for it. If I had been hungrier, I would have ordered a burger and I’m sure that would have been pretty good. Overall, the restaurant is ok, décor is very modern, service was ok and the clientele was very diverse. I’d come back again, but probably just to order a pint or two which cost about 1.5 euros.

The interior and concept looks great. The burgers are tasty. But this place has a bad service. To summarize: long waits, lots of mistakes during the order, such as wrong bread, forgotten ingredients, less meat. They removed a quarter full bear bottle from the table. It was very good they give us a new one! I am a burger regular, visiting burger places everywhere, but I am done with this place for a while. Some of the staff is nice, but the other part is rude. Rule nr 1 for a good resaurant: be served by the same person. I am ashamed of Amsterdam if tourists will visit this place. Especially tourists from the U.S. will have a diffeculty understanding a place as this can survive with this attitude. In about a year I will give this place another chance, I will go to Burgerzaken in the meantime…

Been at this place with my wife for dinner last night. They have very well-made and tasty hamburgers. Super-friendly staff. A little short on napkins, especially if you are a little messy with hamburgers like I am… Good beer offering, good location close to Leidseplein. Fair price.
