Excellent food and service. They were able to seat us on a Saturday night without reservations. Very helpful waitstaff with great English. Very flavorful. A must try. The set menus made ordering a cinch.

Starting with the positives, I will say they have a good space for group dining(we had a group of 8) and were pretty attentive throughout the meal. The prices also weren’t too bad and each dish was a good portion size. Most of the group had a good experience here, but I am just reviewing on my personal food experience. I was surprised on the lack of vegetarian options/tofu options. I decided to get some different appetizers since none of the entrees appealed to me, and wanted to appetizers to come out when the rest of the food came out. I don’t think they understood even after I had repeated myself. So all my food came out before everyone else’s which was a little strange. I ordered chicken sauté(thinking nice cut up chicken on a stick with some peanut sauce). I got dark meat(which I know is normal in Europe and I just don’t like it) which wouldn’t have mattered if it looked clean, but there was so much fat on the meat. I couldn’t even eat it! Some people are pickier with meat than others, which I totally understand because I am picky with meat but others at my table agreed that the chicken looked gross and why serve chicken with that much fat on it? Second, I ordered gado gado, which is a mix of veggies in peanut sauce. It sounded delicious! However, the menu says«various vegetables», so I expected a mix of cabbage and maybe some broccoli, beans, cucumber, etc. What arrived on my plate was a couple kinds of shredded cabbage, covered in cold peanut sauce. I expected it to be room temp/warm! I also ordered fried bananas, which were luckily delicious and warm! That and my peppermint tea were the only good things I had at this place. A few others in my group didn’t like their meals, but the others really enjoyed what they had so it all depends on what you get I guess.

Awesome food and great service. The set menu was great for adults and kids. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Amsterdam

Delightful hole-in-the-wall up a steep flight of steps from a busy noisy road. But once inside, you look down on the hubbub of crazy tourists out there. Quite lovely. We enjoyed their basic rijsttafel. Plenty of food, ample variety, generous portions. All very tasty. I guess rijsttafel ingredients are only partially cooked to order, but these were all delicious and very much to our taste. Came back a few nights later and tried the seafood rijsttafel. That was actually a bit less to our taste — the seafood soup was three fishballs in boring clear broth; the two fish dishes were both deep-fried(then infused with very nice sauce, but still two fried dishes is not quite what we wanted or expected), and the crab dish was tiny and again deep-fried. I’d stick with the standard menu. Pitcher of tap water on the table, just what we wanted. No suggestion that there was anything wrong with us preferring tap over bottled water.

The service is excellent! Very polite and perfectionist. Also try the 2nd set menu, good price value and many options to chose from. Chicken satai is very well done and has the perfect texture for the sauce, also The fried banan was certainly a must.

Clearly a restaurant serving the tourist crowd, however also clearly doing it very well. Seems like unless you can find a good hole-in-the-wall, all the restaurants gouge a little in this area, and Puri Mas gives more for your money. I’m familiar with Indonesian food but not in the Netherlands, so I enjoyed the 20 Euro rice taffel option with a selection of dishes — I got a veggie/seafood version. Filling and contained a range of materials, flavours and colours. Service was flawless. Atmosphere was calm and unpretentious.

This super-friendly Indonesian restaurant must be one of the few places that is 1) centrally-located 2) big enough for a crowd 3) friendly and 4) serving good food. Their rijstafel was very decent, though a bit pricey.

My go-to spot for Indonesian in Amsterdam. Very friendly staff and excellent Reijstafel. Prices are reasonable. Located RIGHT at Leidseplien. A must try.

There may have been a time when Puri was a solid option for Indonesian food but that time seems to be over. Part of it is the location, on a tourist dominated street with no soul. I don’t blame them for that but I do blame them for some of the most expensive food in this category in this town. Yes the staff is courteous. Yes the place is comfortable. And yes they have rice Tafel. But nowadays you have plenty of better options that do too.

I seem to remember having gone to Puri Mas years ago and been wowed. This time around, I got the 33EUR rijsttafel and it was just OK. Good variety but none of the dishes really stood out especially given the price. 3 different satay skewers, a couple curry dishes. Opened with a few fried single piece appetizers. Service is really good. Despite leaving a pitcher of water on my table, they never let my glass get below half full. Free WiFi BTW.

Unfortunately, even though we initially thought the food was good, due to the manager not siding with the customer when there was a miscommunication between myself and one of the waitresses regarding a drink, I would never go back. What happened to «Customers are always right?» Does that not apply in Amsterdam when you are putting down almost $ 100 dinner? By the way, the waitresses push their set dinner menus in front of you and does a great job explaining them while they hold the a la carte menu far from your reach. The set menu is fine if that is what they are known for and we were there to enjoy our new experience. The misunderstanding came when I asked for a dirty martini and the waitress did not know what«dirty» meant since they only had regular dry martinis. She went and asked someone and came back and told me that they do have it. No mention of 3euros now turned into a 9euros drink. So when the bill came, I was surprised to see the price difference and the manager came to talk to us about our«question». She said because the dirty martini is considered to be a cocktail with the lousy 4 olives in it, that is why they added the 6euros on top of the 3. WHAT!!! No apologies for not being upfront with the difference and no ownership of how idiotic this may sound. 9 euros isn’t a lot of money but it was the principle behind it. With that, we left with a BAD taste in our mouth which was so unfortunate since we were enjoying everything up until then. OH! By the way, two young girls that was sitting next to us was splitting 1person portion of the set menu and a order of tomato soup. WTF? Why didn’t we get that option?

Came here with my friend while in Amsterdam. We heard we had to have some Rijsttafel while in Amsterdam and we came across this place while looking through various travel books and websites. The food was delicious! It was spicy but not too spicy, I kept asking for more condiments. The service was good, very friendly and knowledgeable. We got here by taking the Tram, easy to find. The restaurant is upstairs. Try it out if you ever get the chance.

Sat and enjoyed company in this interactive meal. Never rushed by the attentive staff. Awesome night, and I can’t wait to return when I’m back in Amsterdam! Ordered the sampling menu, with meat. So delicious! We couldn’t decide which meat dish was our favorite — they were all so unique and so, so good. Also came with an app of soup, two different kinds of rice, wonderfully complex sauces to add if you so chose, awesome green beans, and fried bananas for dessert.

Seven of us had an excellent rijsttafel here. The variety of dishes was good, the flavors excellent and the quantities generous. I’m not sufficiently expert to say how authentic it was, but it was certainly very good! It was a comfortable restaurant. Definitely recommended!
