VOM FASS

I like that there are more olive oil stores around now, but sampling here was hardly the experience I have had other places. I think people must come here more for the spirits they have in back. I was disappointed that the olive oil was imported and they couldn’t tell me when it was harvested. I have been reading about olive oil a lot and I am convinced that more local California olive oil is way better.

George was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and super easy to converse with. Through our conversation, he knew how to navigate samples even with my dozens of allergies. I was super impressed with the variety of spirits, whiskeys and cognacs, liqueurs, and oils and vinegars. All of Vom Fass’ products are special — like the vodka made from apple and pears (I can actually taste soft notes of fruit) and the garlic infused olive oil. George knew exactly what to give me based on my likes, for example I was looking for an olive oil that is rich but yet light and through our previous conversation about the gilroy garlic festival, he went straight for the garlic olive oil. Sure enough, I got a bottle! They are very generous with samples here and definitely know how to pair them. For example, I loved the caipirinha liqueur but was a tad too sweet (it tasted just like a jolly rancher!) so he paired it with a rum that I enjoyed earlier. So of course, I got a bottle of the liqueur too! All in all, I left here very satisfied. This is a great place to buy gifts or even a treat for yourself. This is definitely a «get what you pay for» type because the quality of products is amazing especially for my sensitive palate. I walked out with small bottles of vodka, liqueur, olive oil and a vinegar for around $ 40. Not too bad! I’m definitely planning on saving my bottles so I can come back to refill.

I love the pistashio oil and all of the limoncello products. The staff at Vom Fass is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. A MUST hit when you visit Downtown Ventura!

Vom Fass! German translation: on tap, on draft! One can find special olive oils, vinegars. One selects an empty bottle and the staff will fill it up. But the best thing about Vom Fass??? All the tastings! You can taste anything in the store for free before selecting what you want to purchase. There is Scotch, Brandy, gGrappa, fruit liquors, and more, even Absinthe! This is the store to find a special gift for a friend or for oneself. The staff is quite knowledgeable about all their inventory. Emily greeted us and took her time explaining each liquor tasting. She also gave us suggestions on how to serve the liquor. For example the grapefruit liquor could be mixed with a bubbly, or the nut liquor could be poured over vanilla ice cream. We stumbled into this place without any knowledge of what to expect. Later I met Terri and George who were both very friendly and proud of working for this place. All the alcohols are pre bottled and packaged, so once you decide, you simply pick and choose which size: 50ml, 100ml. 250ml, etc… Another gem about this place? They are open late on Sundays, whereas the other stores on Main street close at 5pm on Sundays. Vom Fass stays open until 7pm! We drove up from Santa Monica and arrived to Ventura for a fun day trip and Vom Fass was definitely one of the highlights!

Great selection of olive oils, brandies, liquor, and vinegars. Beautiful bottles to choose from. Service was excellent. Great place to put together a hostess gift.

Wonderful experience at this store. Just went there today, as I generally go to We Olive down the street. I found them to be welcoming and informative. Also, what I thought was classy when I mentioned that I normally go to We Olive they had only positive things to say about them, but explained how they were different; We Olive is domestic vinegars and oils, where VOM FASS is European. I look forward to visiting this establishment again and experiencing some of the different flavors of oils they carry!

I have received house warming and Christmas gifts from this store and enjoyed them very much. So much that I could not wait to go and see what else they had that I could purchase. However, when entering the store with my well behaved toddler, I was shunned out the door. It’s too bad that their customer service isn’t as good as their products…

We had a great experience here. The sales associate was very kind and helpful. The cost was much more reasonable than olive and their selection was much better. I only wish they had pieces of bread to sample some of the oils with but other than that, it’s a great place.

Great experience for foodies! Amazing hand crafted vinegars — not just flavored, but actually MADE from the fruits. Lots of delicious oils. Amazing, hard to find liqueurs & boutique wines too.
Wine tasting! Liquor tastings too. Great gourmet classes.
They can be a bit hard to find, you gotta peek into the inside patio area (think Paris or New Orleans!)

I used to frequent this store back when it was located in west lake village. I’d schlep all the way up the hill. I was so sad to see it closed but was so delighted that it relocated not to Santa Monica as was the original plan but down the road in Ventura lovely old town.
If you try this place out, you must try the calamansi vinegar as well as their star vinegars. (You could drink them. I do actually. Add a few tablespoons vinegar to ice and water. Amazingly delicious and refreshing drink.) the calamansi is wonderful on fish, chicken or vegetables! Their rose liqueur is amazing as well as their 25 yr Armagnac.
Try it out! As well as everything else. Lol

This is a great addition to downtown Ventura. Oil, Vinegar, Whiskey, and Spirits tastings. It’s a fun place to go. Check it out!

Great store for different and unique spirit’s. The staff was so very helpful. AND… you get to taste everything !!!
