The Ormacheas are jewelry artisans who happened to find their way to Ventura from Peru. And we are lucky to have them! Their jewelry, mainly designed by Hugo, is crafted of fine metals and gemstones. The gold is beautiful 18kt — something only found in finer shops. Given that, and the fact that each piece is hand-crafted and designed, I find their prices to be very reasonable. Over the past several years I have bought rings and necklaces from them and am always complimented. Bertha is so friendly and easy to talk to, and knowledgeable about Hugo’s work and the stones. Custom jewelry is one of their specialties, and they seem to really enjoy the process of working with the customers to get exactly what is wanted. It’s always a treat to go in, say hi, browse,(and especially leave with a new shiny thing!)

I have a little savings account that is just for Hugo’s jewelery. He is such a passionately diverse artist. My advise is to visit his studio today.

Hugo and Bertha are lovely people, and Hugo and his son Sergio and brother Hernan create lovely jewelry. Their stones are carefully selected and are full of sparkle and life, and their designs range from traditional to unusual. There are many many pieces I’d be happy to wear home :) Hugo listened to my vision for a red diamond ring and gave me helpful suggestions that made the final piece so much better than my original idea, while still incorporating my most important preferences. The result is my favorite piece of jewelry ever! I returned a couple of weeks later for a sizing adjustment and it was carried out flawlessly by Hernan. If you’re looking for a gift straight out of the case, your only hardship will be choosing from Ormachea’s dazzling and varied selection. If you’re envisioning a custom piece, look no further! Thank you, Hugo and family… we will be back~

Hugo’s designs are very rare and unique and clearly come from his Peruvian background. I love the mix of oxidized silver with some gold and the gorgeous array of gems they use – topaz, peridot, sapphire, ruby. In other jewelry I’ve seen, these mixes look tacky, but Hugo’s designs are hip, modern, even magical. I highly recommend you check them out. I guarantee you’ve never seen anything so beautiful. And, as someone else mentioned, Hugo’s wife will spend all the time you need talking with you and letting you try things on. I want to buy something now!

This store is right across the way from The Peruvian Bead. Ormachea is more expensive, and has more fine jewelry. I actually wandered in here just out of curiosity, but I ended up buying a pair of gold earrings. I lost my gold hoops and had been looking for some simple but interesting oval hoops. Walked in and there they were. They have lots of moonstones, some diamonds, rough and cut emeralds, and all kinds of other stuff, set in silver, gold, platinum or white gold. The prices here are a little high, but their quality is very good.

Hugo makes beautiful jewelry. I think his son(s) work with him now too. The pendants, earrings, rings, etc are stunning. They aren’t the traditional square, circular, hard-sided types. They flow like water. They look like lopsided teardrops and puddles and amorphous amoebas with sparkling watermelon toumalines and other amazing stones inside.

Great jewelry, great people. I had always bought the more ‘economical’ end of their line, then splurged on a pair of gold and pearl earrings for my wedding and love them! They include more yellow gold in their designs than I would generally want, but each time I go in there is something I absolutely love. I wasn’t sure about whether to get a necklace and Mrs. Ormachea spent a LONG time very patiently helping me look through options and had a fantastic way of offering suggestions without pressuring me. I’ve also seen custom wedding rings they made that looked great! Definitely worth checking out on a stroll through downtown.
