Thunderbird is great! During the colder months, they offer outdoor heating and a nice view of the plaza at night. The food is great and affordable. The manager is very nice and I highly request the green chili stew. The cathedral is down the street and there is many shops along the way too.

I give it a 8⁄10 on food. And 6⁄10 on service. Mole enchiladas really good. Servers however more interested in talking to each other than helping customer. Burger order to exactly correct but close. Had to wait on water refills etc.

Ya know this place has potential. It kind of a has a sports bar yet cafeteria like feeling at the same time. I just can’t quite put my finger on it. A better blending of the two spaces is needed I suppose. This eatery is located in a prime location and they have two balconies, one overlooking the plaza and another off the bar(which could be very romantic as it only has one table). The bloody Mary looked great I should’ve had one but I didn’t. I opted for a sweet drink instead. The sliders my Husband had weren’t bad but could’ve been better. I had the chili it was tasty but not hardy enough. Would I check this establishment out again… sure but after I check out a few other spots first.

Wonderful view of plaza, good margarita and very nice service! We randomly went there looking for an outside patio or balcony on a warm winter day. Great find!

Everything was fine. Overpriced, and the drinks weren’t full o pep, but it was fine. Nothing to draw me back but an exceptional view of the cathedral.

Came in for dinner at 4pm local(6pm for me since I’m from EST). Was given a lunch menu with Valentines Day menu. Requested dinner menu and was told I couldn’t order dinner till 5. SOOO I want to order a steak off of the dinner menu and that’s not allowed for another hour. Interesting. I ordered a caprese salad and rib-eye from special menu since that was my only option for a steak(and I asked the waiter again when I ordered if there was any other steak I could order and was again told No). Asked for a beer and wine menu. Wine by the bottle for the ones I recognized were as much as 400% mark-up. That’s upsurd!!! Some wines they were charging by the glass what you can buy retail grocery by the bottle. Ordered a local IPA. Caprese came out but wasn’t given silverware or side plate and 4 tomatoes sliced thin and 4 medallions of mozz both the size of half-dollars for $ 8.95. Steak was cooked very well(medium-rare but cooked correctly) and had good flavors but was less than a half an inch cut and was $ 31.95. Both dishes were 20% over reasonable price for quality of ingredients. Service was ok at best. Hope there’s better in Santa Fe…

Horrible service. Beer selection leaves much to be desired. Mixed drinks were good. We left the bar and were seated at a table on the porch. Would have been nice to have tried the food, but after waiting 20 minutes and after repeated requests still had not been given menus. We gave up and headed somewhere else.

We went for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. We ate at the bar, which is not usually a problem, but there a very stinky homeless man sitting at one end of the bar. Nevertheless, we stayed for lunch and drinks. My boyfriend ordered a salad. The playing was pretty but it was difficult to eat because the lettuce was heaped so high. The candied nuts were a nice touch. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup which was delicious but the flour tortilla on the side stole the show for me. I had to order additional tortillas because they were so good. The craft beer selection was pretty good and the bartender was nice too.

Nice atmosphere but a little pricey. Margarita Shrimp is very good. Thunder Fajitas were delicious but should be called vegetarian fajitas with a mound of veggies and 2 pieces of steak. Very fresh guacamole.

We were in this establishment during the 2015 Great Race and wanted to revisit it! if you like good drinks, tasty food and super, friendly service then this is the place for you ! David is our bartender and he makes an amazing Margarita. He is very friendly and efficient. David was very patient in finding our KUGAMEONESPN3! Rick, the manager, stopped by for a chat. He had been to a Chiefs game and loved our KC barbecue… very friendly and out-going, great traits to possess for a manager!

This is a fun spot for a meal on a nice day. We enjoyed a nice lunch on the patio overlooking the Plaza. We started by splitting a Frito Pie appetizer. This was huge for an appetizer and could definitely be a meal for one person. The taste was amazing and everything tasted very fresh. For my entrée I enjoyed Green Chile Mac N’ Cheese. I loved the flavor of the mac n’ cheese and there was plenty of green chile in the dish. My favorite part was the breadcrumbs on the top. My husband had the The New Mexican Burger which had cheddar and loads of green chile on top. He loved the burger flavor and the loads of green chile.

The ash trees are changing color here in Santa Fe.(October) and the Thunderbird Grill is a wonderful place to experience the event. I look up and the see explosive fall colors, a sun reflecting yellow so rich you can almost taste it. A gypsy feeling woman is playfully working a fiddle here in the square, people strolling thru shops and commingling. Somehow I think my 6th and 7th sense will be in over-drive by sunset. A house salad with fresh blue cheese crumbles, ripe cherry tomatoes and candied walnuts graced my table. There is a separate cocktail menu bigger than the food menu, bordering on «craft» cocktails and proudly centered around upscale tequilas. The chicken was over-cooked, robbing this of a true 5 star experience but the flavor and use of quality oils and dressings are all very redemptive of any lack. Ask for Andrea, a petite, friendly dark haired young woman that smiles when she talks and is deserving of compliments for her creative choice of jewelry and commitment to style wearing a healed boot in a job famous for unfashionable comfy shoes. Well done Thunderbird. Avoid relying on your fabulous location to bring you guests and continue to offer an experience and you’ll do very very well.

A delightful place to people watch on the Plaza in Santa Fe. We had excellent service and very good margaritas. The menu is varied to appeal to all palates. We had excellent chicken wings, a very good cheese enchilada plate and 2 of us had the wonderful fish tacos. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their lunch and the ambiance.

They don’t have it together for a busy lunch crowd. Three couples seated after us were served food before we ordered! My order was wrong when it finally arrived. The House Margarita was awful! I’m a Margi snob, but this one sucked. I gave it 2 stars out of pity because a girl sitting next to us said they aren’t usually this slow. My food was SOSO — breakfast sandwich. Salad with it was good. Robbie loved his Wedge.

Thunderbird is your typical restaurant outside a highly touristy area; the food is good enough – not great – and slightly over-priced. If you are browsing the shops on the plaza and must eat that instant, Thunderbirds will serve you well. But if fine cuisine is what you are after, you might want to look a little harder. I split the fajitas with my wife and we both felt meh. The guacamole appetizer is not worth it. You get a basket of chips and enough guac for only about a third of them. The service was great, exceptional actually. But that’s only part of the equation for making a fine eatery. As a bar, Thunderbirds rates much better. Its second floor outdoor seating overlooks the plaza and provides a great vantage for people watching if that is what your into. They also serve a massive beer-rita dubbed the ‘volcano’. One of these bad boys will put your entire party in a good mood. So my recommendation: eat some where else, then come here for drinks.

Food was exceptional, service top notch, price was very reasonable. I am a big fan. We dropped in during lunch, and were seated immediately. before you know it, the GM «Rick» introduced himself and thanked us for coming. He must have stopped by at least two more times. He was all over the place, without looking flighty. The servers were attentive, cordial, and helpful throughout. We ordered a «restaurant week special” — cheeseburger with a bowl of chili, and the fish and chips. Everything was outstanding. Maybe the best fish and chips I have ever had, and that includes Vancouver BC(on the waterfront), London, you name it. cheeseburger was cooked just right– jucy, flavorful. the chili– my wife said was better than her’s and she makes killer chili. Onion rings were awesome. cucumber cole slaw was wonderful. Super beer selection– many on tap, lots of bottles and a few cans. You’re bound to find something you like. Atmosphere was crisp and casual. Not overdone like some places, but a good vibe. I will be back, as it is now a favorite among many awesome restaurants. And I must point out this– in this town you could pay a lot more for food this good, but here you don’t have to. I made sure to speak to Rick as we were leaving, pointing out that what he is doing is the one thing that can make or break a restaurant. Immediate, direct communication. So many think it is «their restaurant», they will run it as they see fit. Often, a bit of listening and catering to the customer will solve your problems, and make things even better. If you’re not willing to listen to the people who hire you, you need to find another profession. Three cheers for Rick. Give him a raise!

We met friends here for a drink and light bite — it is right on the plaza and close to the action. The margaritas were good. We also had the calamari. My only concern was that there were more fried veggies in the calamari than actual calamari — this was very disappointing. Service was also a bit slow — even though the place was not packed. Overall — lackluster at best. Location is the best quality of that they have going for them.

I’m not going to pretend that these were the best chicken nachos I’ve ever had,* and the same goes for the Frito Pie. But they were FAR from the worst, and they only cost $ 3 apiece during happy hour. Throw in $ 3 drafts, $ 5 margaritas, a balcony view overlooking the Plaza… I’d do it again. ______________ *I don’t know why I would do this anyway. I only pretend food is good when it’s homecooked by someone that is bigger than me, or scary for another reason(like she’s my wife).
