Boring beer. Boring food. Boring. But it is open until 11 or 12 upstairs, which is a miracle for Santa Fe’s epically weak nightlife, apperantly.

This place is great. Where else can you get a pool hall in Santa Fe. I like this place because you not only can play pool but the beer is good(Santa fe nut brown) and you can talk to your friends and still hear them. The also have lots of sorts on the tv for those who want it. They also have CRAZY hot jallapeno poppers

Very disappointed. Would not go back. Showed up with about 50 people after work at about midnight/12:30. And proceeded to spend a lot of money. They stopped serving at 1:15 am and then forcefully had us all leave by 1:45am claiming that the police were there and that it was 2am. There were no police and several of us showed them it was only 1:45am. Apparently they were more concerned with closing up instead of allowing the 50 people who just spent a lot of money finish their drinks in peace. Do not recommend.

We were in town and needed, yes needed, to watch some college football. Catamount was recommended as the only pseud-sports bar in downtown SF. We walked in to find our game on all of the TVs on the first floor. We found a table near a TV and perused the menu. It is mainly bar food, with a few mexican food items thrown in for good measure. Since we were in SF, I felt the need to order something mexican, and decided to get the green chili chicken tamales with a cup of the tortilla soup. The tortilla soup was nice, a heavy tomato base, but good flavor, a few chunks of avacado would have been a nice addition. However, the tamales were a bad idea, they were over cooked and tough, but the green chili was decent. My wife wisely ordered a club sandwich and was happy with it. Looking around most people were having standard bar fare or tacos. The taco’s looked tasty. If you need to catch a game this appears to be the only choice near the tourist hotels in SF, but stick with the bar fare.

Totally agree w/everything that Elyse said. The Cat and the Cowgirl are the only two places I’ve ever had a really good time @ in Santa Fe. I was there for a recent wedding, and was with a large group of UT fans, not to mention the groom was a huge LSU fan. We had to watch the games somewhere, and the Cat was right next to the hotel. This review is for downstairs: Nikki and Reija were awesome. Next time you go ask for the confused lemon. Actually ask for a nipple, then you get one. Or at least that’s what happened to me. Honestly, she started it. Hmmm… guess that’s a long story. Anyway after pounding crown & cokes($ 7) as the LSU — Georgia game gets out of hand, I realize a move to beer might be a good idea. Bottles weren’t near as cold as the manual recommends, so they put some ice for us. That’s hospitality right there. Decent vittles. Wings and sliders rock. The quesadilla was aight. Overall it was your average bar with decent food and great waitresses. That is a rarity in this town.

I’ll admit, I have had many a fun night at the Catamount. It’s not my first choice of hangouts but if you want to play pool they have plenty of well kept tables. You just need to make sure you work a couple extra shifts at work the week before to afford the hourly rental for them. Everytime I go to Catamount to play pool they seem to raise the hourly to something more astronomical. Plus, they require all but your first born to ensure you don’t sneak out with the cue ball in your pocket. If you can score a spot on the upstairs balcony, it’s a fun place to have a cocktail and watch the tourist from a safe distance. I know they have food downstairs but in my 15 years of Santa Fe’ing, I have never tasted a single morsel. Someone else can give their 2 cents on that.

From my two trips to Santa Fe, I gather that it’s not the youngest town on earth, which might show from the absence of bars and sports bars. Over a crazy college football Thanksgiving weekend, we were in need of some rowdy sports action. Catamount is walking distance from any hotel on the main square, which is convenient for stumbling to and from. The staff was amazing friendly, which is always refreshing and kind of shocking from those of us from LA. Our cocktail server might have been the only server in the place, but didn’t miss a step! Second rounds of drinks were offered before the glass was bone dry and as the LSU-Arkansas game went to 3OTs, we were nicely encouraged to hang out and have another. We walked in late afternoon and there weren’t many people inside, but just enough to have a few cheers and action. The patrons were a combination of tourists and locals and by locals, it was like Cheers, the bartenders knew their names(which i guess is normal in a small town). I wouldn’t insist any fellow traveler hit up this spot for anything amazing, but it is a great, comfy, stop when you need some sports action and a retreat from the tourists and shopping extravaganza.

I’ve only been here when I was already somewhat buzzed. All I really remember is it is huge and I had the strongest gin and tonic ever created outside of a highly controlled laboratory environment, but I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that this place is called the Catamount Bar & Grill and doesn’t even have the decency to be a gay bar. YES, I KNOWTHATISALSOTHENAMEOFTHEMIGHTYCOUGAR. But that would only make it /funnier/.

Went here for lunch at about 2pm. It was completely empty except for the bartender and about four other people. I got the feeling that around lunch time it’s probably full of tourists, but the rest of the time it’s mostly locals. Seemed like a nice enough place. The food wasn’t anything special, and it was a pretty standard beer selection. Prices were a bit high for my tastes, but that may just be normal in Santa Fe(around the plaza anyway). Probably would be a lot more fun with more people there having a good time, but for now I’m going to call it a solid 3 stars. Edit: I’ve been back now, for dinner. The enchiladas I got were excellent, and our waitress was great. I’m giving them another star.

I’ve had some of the best nights of my life in Santa Fe here. The upstairs is a great location for pool — lots of tables and beer on tap. TV’s for any game. An excellent hangout at any time, highly recommended.
