when you leave the warmth of your hostel late at night for a food truck named«dumps» because their hours say that they are open and you get there and they are closed. it makes you want to leave a little somethin-somethin on their counter.

Why so spice? I love pierogis as much as anyone, but these were almost unbearably spicy. I went here tonight with a friend who ordered the Thai dumplings, and they were so hot that he couldn’t even finish them. I ordered the taco dumplings, and they were also really spicy… and I like spicy food. Service was quick, but the spice overkill will probably deter me from coming back to this cart.

a welcome addition and pioneers of a newish cart pod on Belmont. they’re open late. they have vegan dumplings(there were a few vegan options on the night I was there, including the special — awesome). of course there are plenty of omnivore and veg options too. I was really impressed with the length of the menu. The service was awesome and the food came out pretty fast. they weren’t too greasy or heavy but decently sopped up the cheap beer in my stomach. the portion is pretty generous, you get several lil dumplings and mine were served on top of a sort of slaw salad which was a wonderful surprise. it’ll be hard for me to want to try anywhere else in this pod now. you heard it here, take your dumps on belmont.

Dumps, i know we just met.. .but i love you. I know. I move a little fast. I won’t go into detail about what I did with those U-Da-Ho dumplings when I got home. But for realsies: The boyfriend and I tried the U-Da-Ho(cheddar garlic mashed potatoes), Big Kahuna(teriyaki pork with pineapple), and Babe the Bleu Ox(bacon-bleu-cheeseburger meatball). All were delicious. I should have gotten the sour cream to dip the U-Da-Ho’s in. They were fantastic without, but sour cream has been known to take things to another level. I split my order between the U-Da-Ho and the Big Kahuna. I could have easily eaten all ten of the mashed potato variety. The teriyaki sauce for the Big Kahuna was super tasty but I think the dumping itself lacked something. Not sure what. It was good, but I felt like it needed salt? more pineapple? not sure. Don’t get me wrong, I’d order them again in a heartbeat. I did not partake in the Babe the bleu ox but I can only assume they were great seeing as how I was still standing there raving about my first U-Da-Ho and the BF was complaining that all of his were gone already. Chatted with one of the owners for a bit when I picked them up. He was very friendly and the dude can cook. He makes some of his own sauces too, including a bleu cheese dressing that came with the Babe dumplings. I’m excited to try some of the other varieties on the menu and I will return just to see what sort of crazy specials they come up with. The wait was about ten minutes. Not too bad considering I’ve waited much longer at other food carts for a sub-par experience. Extra points for ninja turtle truck doubling as a napkin holder and a Dollywood mug for a tip jar. OH and Mexican coke!

Maybe I’m a little biased because I love peirogis. The people who run the place are really awesome and friendly, the prices are dirt cheap, and the dumplings are delicious. The flavors are all really interesting, and they have specials every time you go. The first time you’re there, ask for a sampler; they let me split my 10 dumplings between 3 separate flavors, and they were all delicious. My wife ordered a fourth which was delicious as well. I don’t know what else I can say. Go get dumps.

By the #s: 10 dumplings, $ 6, 10 minutes. More: The Big Kahuna is pineapple flavored with pork filling, boiled, then fried, served over shredded cabbage with a sweet/savory dipping sauce. Tender, delicious, flavorful, filling. A number of other filling/sauce options await, and I will be back to try them. ½ & ½ orders are available for those who can’t decide. Conveniently located –next to my mom’s house! The bad: Why call it dumps?! Gross. Also: in a hurry? It might be too slow for you. Probably not a problem in SE Portland…

Alright, y’all…we can go on and on about how Dumps delivers simple, comforting, quality cart food in a particular stretch of Belmont that is lacking in affordable snacks and open late at that, but what really sets Dumps apart is that is it a cart with class. Just look at that unicorn and mirror-shard adorned A-board, the sparkliest welcome you’ll receive at any Portland eatery! The purple, the gold, the zebra stripes– that brilliant hot pink neon sign, who wouldn’t want to be seen eating a steaming carton of dumplings in front of this place? Check it out. You will not be disappointed. Extra points: * If you bring in a VHS for their collection, they’ll take a buck off your order! *If the weather is nice and they aren’t so busy, you can play ms. pac man or atari while you wait! Just ask, they’ll swivel their tv around and pass the controller out the window!

Belmont between 39th and 30th has needed a new late night cart for a while, bars surround the area, and the food there at the bars can be expensive. I think dumps is going to fit the neiborhood perfectly. I went there to buy some dinner, I would suggest that this place be patronized later at night, the dumplings are perfect for late night snackage. It took a few min for my food to come out, I would predict that, as this place continues to operate, they will get much faster, I think they are getting their bearings straight. But, food carts are NOT fast food, they are resteraunt kitchens shrunk into trailers. The dumplings were tasty, I got the egg and chirizzo. They were a good quality and quantity for the low price of 5 dollars. They come with garnishes and rad homeaid sauces too, which is a plus. Overall, its a good product, nice for dinner, but more Idea for late night snack. If I could offer them one word of advice, I would tell them to buy some more equipment, because if you make a good product late night on belmont, the drunk will arrive in hordes and swamp you. This place gets mad street credit for opening during winter too. I wish them to prosper for the bold move. So, eat here and support dumps, the newest cart on Belmont.
