Howe Mart

I bought a half gallon of milk and noticed it was spoiled after opening. I took it back for a return or exchange but the person working behind the counter constantly gave me excuses and flak about doing what’s right and standing by their products. Please read all items you purchase, I’ve seen a few items that were expired but still on the shelf to be sold. I’ve spent a lot of money there and now will consider taking my business elsewhere!!!

Love this market, it’s my go to and the people are great! Huge selection and prices are awesome.

Such rude staff here. I had a bunch of things to purchase and there was a giant line and I finally get up there and I only had a cc and he’s like oh gosh no you need to leave we only take cash and like pushed me out. He was so rude. Everyone that was there was so shocked and I left in tears. Such a rude rude man… Like we aren’t in the 1980’s anymore you should have a credit card machine like every store. Will never go here again… Horrible place and EXTREMELY over priced.

Will never come here again. on recent trip from SF Valley used a debit card (which i never use) there to make a purchase, the next day multiple fraudulent purchases made in Torrance Best Buy, and other stores. Would not recommend doing business there, and if have to CASH ONLY!!!

We love our local market, it has a little bit of everything, and a nice selection of things you wouldn’t expect, like a jar of pickled ginger a la sushi, and the wasabi to go with it.
The other night I needed a last minute dinner for 2 adults and 4 kids, and I couldn’t bare ordering pizza. However, I was out of pasta and all other easy-​to-​throw-​together items, so, I decide screw it, I’ll run around the corner and grab some and I don’t care what I pay, just need to put something together quick.
Well I put together a dinner for six that included a huge amount of pasta, the stuff for a homemade cream sauce, some veggies, and some sausage for $ 16. That’s cheaper than ordering pizza! I’ve always mentally blocked comparing to Ralphs or Traders because I just didn’t want to know how much more I was paying for the convenience, however, when you look at this way, the prices are great. Love it!
The wine and liquor selection is also great.
And, every time I go in there I love the song that playing, usually some great classic rock.

Howe Mart has a good variety of products at reasonable prices. You will most likely find what you need at this store. They’re also open till 11pm, I think, for those late night cravings.
The variety of snacks they have range from chips, jerky, salsas to healthy stuff like puddings, guacamole dips and vege dips.
They now carry Comfy House Foods gourmet products, which you can also find in several grocery stores and health food shops. At Howe Mart, they have 4 different flavors of hummus, fire-​roasted salsas, roasted vegetable dip (like bruschetta), multi-​layered dip (gotta check this one out — perfect for Super Bowl parties) and guacamole dips. They also have these unique Vegan Rice Puddings that are, not only delicious, but nutritious. For your sweet tooth, the decadent panna cottas (Italian custard flan) are worth a try. Check it out! You will find these where the sandwiches are.

Just read a review about the owners. Been going here for years. The husband was extremely rude and unhelpful. WON’T patronize this store anymore. There is a larger market, Dales Jr, on Manchester next to the laundry mat. I will start going to this market. The prices are similar. This is a bigger store has a better selection of items.

Friendly owners and a good selection of protein bars –including quest bars! Decent prices and so close to my place. Easily my favorite stop and go.

Howe’s satisfies my junk food cravings by being conveniently located across the street. Prices are reasonable and I love the family.

We live a block from the store and when we moved in were thrilled to have the store nearby. The service by this Asian couple could not be more different. The husband is so friendly but the wife could not be more ugly to customers. It’s a shame that they treat people this way. I guess that get more transients then locals?

Howe Market is a little grocery/​market that has a bit of everything. The shelves are crammed with all types of food and snacks. They also have a good beer selection. There are many times I forget some key ingredient for a recipe, and I’m always pleasantly surprised that Howe has it in stock! The prices aren’t dirt cheap and they charge you a fee to use your credit card, but it remains a great little stop in the neighborhood.

Love this store. The staff is always friendly particularly on Sunday mornings. Creamer, the paper and an emergency can of pet food — and all in slippers, brilliant.

Yes, this place has been a lifesaver a couple of times. Its location is just so convenient. HOWEver, (pun intended) their fruit selection is disgusting, they only have jumbo size eggs, and their credit/​debit card rules are STUPID. Why isn’t it illegal to charge someone if they haven’t spent $ 10 — especially if I’m in there every week! It’s ridiculous.

When I lived in Playa this was my saving grace on many occasions. The guys who run it are awesome. They have all sorts of food/​drinks/​random stuff you may need. Their alcohol selection is perfect, I’ve always found what I need here. They get daily delivery for milk/​dairy and I’ve found milk from here was often more fresh than from the local major grocery stores.
If you live nearby, this place can be a life saver. Check it out.

I visit this liquor store/​mini-​mart maybe twice a week. They have a solid selection of wine and imported beer. Plenty of snacks and candy to satisfy the pickiest junk food junky. I’m not one to eat too many pre packaged sandwiches but they have a cool selection of gourmet sandwiches; they are fresh from a local deli with unique dressings and herbs.
You would think you were in hood because directly across the street is another competing liquor store. However Howe Mart has a better selection of beers and they are on the West side of the street. Meaning, parking is always in the shade ;)
* Great place to pick-​up firewood and hooch on your way to a romantic evening at Dockweiler Beach.
* Conveniently located between Lax and Marina Del Rey without dealing with Sepulveda or 405 traffic.
* Great place to nourish you after appreciating the Ballona Wetlands Marsh down the road.
* You may be lucky to see the ambassador of Unilocal barry w. himself jogging by.

The best little mini-​mart in Playa.
They have quite a wide selection of beers (lots of European imports, for example) and wines. And of course all the other usual ‘corner-​store’ stuff.
They also sell firewood, which is super-​convenient when you’re heading down to Dockweiler to have a fun beach-​fire with friends.
The place is clean and free of clutter and trash one so often finds at little places like these.
Their produce is quite good, especially for a little mini-​mart. I stopped in once to buy a lemon and it was amazing ! (yeah — fanfare for a lemon… but it was much better than what the big supermarkets sell…)
Most locals know the owners and vice versa; that ‘community-​feeling’.
They stay open till midnight on most evenings, I think.

this little mart has pretty much everything you could ask for… it is more like a small market than a liquor store…
of course they also have the beer, sodas and snacks that you may want…
their wine selection is really quite good… several different kinds of Chianti… YUM!!!
i also really like that they carry lots of kinds of ice cream!!!

Oh Howe mart… How-​ie Mart… How (e)ver you want to say it. This place is down the street from where I grew up, so the asian guy that runs it saw me get my license, buy my first lotto and my first beer…: big awwwwww:
I agree with Brendon, It’s so much better than the place across the street.

I’ve been here many a time for a quick beer run. The Asian dewd that runs the joint is always super nice. They sell it all. The thing I like is that they have the super small chewy Granola bars that you can snap-​up for $.50.
Overall, this place has a bit better selection that the place across the street.
Don’t half step. Go here for beer.
