Sadly, this place is like too many eateries on 9th Avenue — crowded and loud from the bar crowd and very mediocre food — actually, now that I think about it, the food is just boring and lacking any authentic Mexican flavors. There are better places along 9th Avenue — think of this as a bar and not a restaurant. Go to drink, NOT eat.

The guac and chips is very good. The salsa can use some spice and we asked for spicy salsa – not spicy at all! We ended up adding a lot of hot sauce to give it some taste. The drinks aren’t strong either. The margaritas are good. I recommend their chicken fajitas.

The atmosphere is cool but nothing special. The drinks are cheap and they give you a lot of food

I wish I can give this place a negative or zero but Unilocal won’t let me post it with no stars… The Bad — Service– 1 hr to make a salad… no thanks — Food– quesadillas look like two taco shells with added toppings on top… this is not a quesadilla — Tacos were awful… most of the party didn’t even finish their meal because that’s how bad it was — Waitor– no refills on water unless you ask them… no comment — Asked to speak to manager and patiently waited but even to this day no sign of such manager The Good — Not applicable The Bottomline: Don’t waste your time and money here. Do yourself a favor and walk two doors down to Island’s Burger. It’s cheaper and 100% better than the place here. I never walked out on a restaurant before in my life but I guess there’s a first for everything.

I went to see what the fuzzy fuzz was all about… I went on a rainy afternoon, it was empty. The waiters were not friendly. One of the females looked very unhappy to be there… First drinks were not strong at all, had to order the $ 5 margaritas to feel happy. even the first one was bad. Food, was okay. The guacamole had too much lime, the chips were too stall. I didn’t enjoy myself, also felt like the bill was too high. probably wont go back.

Well, I was lured in by the sign for all day $ 5 Magaritas, because what’s better than weekend happy hours?! Didn’t originally plan on eating but I ordered chicken enchiladas. They were oh so yummy! Best tomatillo sauce I’ve ever had and it was a great portion size. I also ordered maduros. I wasn’t expecting the sour cream on top but no biggie. Seems like a fun spot, staff seemed really happy and pleasant.

One of the few prie fixe I’ve ever encountered that’s actually a deal. I’m averse to getting anything prie fixe because it’s almost never worth it unless you’re already planning to order everything included(in which you’re probably willing to pay more for the power of choice). However, Patron’s prie fixe is a steal for what you get. For $ 49, you get a pitcher of margarita or sangria, one appetizer, two entrees, and one dessert. Yep, for $ 25pp, we ate to our heart’s content and got wasted. By no means is the food amazing, but it does the trick. Our pitchers of frozen margarita came out first and it was surprisingly strong. Towards the end of the meal, I was more than tipsy. The guac was actually pretty good, chunkier than normal, which brought out more of the avocado flavor versus the creaminess. My steak enchiladas were filling, although the meat was tough to chew through. There was also excessive amounts of cheese. By the time dessert rolled around, I couldn’t eat another bite. Well, I guess I did take one bite of the tres leche cake and flan, which were both a nice finish to the meal. Leaving a restaurant on a Friday night feeling full, somewhat drunk, and only have spent $ 25 sounds like a good start to a weekend to me.

Mistake number 1 was going here yesterday for Cinco de Mayo, where do I start. 1. The line was out the door, and there appeared to be no clear system for how to deal with reservations, yes I know it was busy, put a host outside so you’re not blocking the door and having people standing by other people who are eating, must have been annoying for them. We had to wait 40 minutes, so went next door to the irish bar. 2. Came back after 40 minutes and was told that there were 3 parties ahead of us, to which I explained we had waited the 40 minutes requested, and were promptly seated. Here ends the good part of this review. 3. Hostess was slow, super slow. We were given 3 menus by the guy who seated us, 1 of which was different to the other 2 and looked like a normal menu. The other 2 were significantly reduced to a single page, and drinks prices increased to $ 9⁄12 vs $ 5 for a margarita(normally happy hour sunday to wednesday all day). Waitress arrived and asked where we got one of the menus, we told her the guy who seated us, she told us that that menu wasn’t being used today and we had to use the«special menu»(half the food choices and more expensive drinks) because it was«cinco de mayo», that’s a pretty shitty move if you ask me, I HATE restaurants that do that, to squeeze a few more bucks out of their customers. 4. We ordered some margaritas and some guac and chips, then we waited, and waited, and waited, eventually the guac turned up after about 20 mins, with no chips, waited a further 5 mins and had to ask for chips and our drinks, they then arrived. 5. Food came along 10 – 15 mins after and was OK, nothing to really write home about 6. We asked for the check, waited a bit more, and then it turned up. To our surprise a 20% gratuity was added to the bill. We certainly weren’t in the mood to leave 20%, so I questioned it with the hostess. She told us that 20% was being added to all bills. I asked her if I could see a menu where it states this, she brought a menu, no mention of added gratuity, she then told me that their regular menu has 20% for parties of 6 or more. I politely explained to her that we didn’t have the choice of that menu, and also our party is a party of 3. She continued to argue back with me about how we were the first customers to complain about this and they had been adding 20% all night. She finally agreed to remove the 20%, we left no tip at all. 7. Here is a tip: DON’T ARGUEWITHYOURCUSTOMERSOVERYOURSNEAKYPOLICY 8. Never going back

I’m not coming back here! The guacamole had way too much lime and cilantro, the sangria is overpriced for a pitcher filled ice and poor taste. The flavors of the ceviche are enhanced with a hint of something tasting like… ketchup??? The waitress was awkward and slow. Last, but certainly not least, my friend is pretty sure that she saw one of the waiters pour a half full glass of water back into the serving pitcher. No! No! NO!

I stumbled upon this place while looking for something quick and not too expensive before a concert at Roseland Ballroom. It wasn’t too crowded so my friend and I decided to try it… I wish we hadn’t. It just wasn’t good, and it was too expensive for how bad it was. Our guacamole didn’t have any heat, when we asked for it to be medium. My salmon tacos were overcooked, dry and pretty flavorless. My friend got the Chili Rellenos, which was huge, but since she really only ate the rice and beans on the side I can’t imagine it was that great. They have $ 5 margaritas, so maybe that’s their redeeming factor, but we didn’t get drinks, so I wouldn’t know for sure. The service was decent, but on the inattentive side. I had water, and it was very rarely refilled. I think you can probably find something better, and cheaper in the area if you look around.

Negative stars are not deserved but that is only supplied by cheap margaritas. The food is subpar and it took two hours to hit the table. A drink takes 45 minutes? That is horrible and should not happen even at the busiest. The wait staff was. I’ve but apologies could be replaced by some sort of compensation for the over priced fare. I hope you avoid this place and find something with more couth.

Lively atmosphere and a young crowd. However, service was slow & inconsistent. Orders had to be repeated & chased up. The food was so-so. Rice & beans tasted like something from a tin/can. The Sangria was badly made. The frozen margarita was pleasant & the only redeeming feature.

The butler outside had the audacity to argue with us because he mistakenly told us about this ‘$ 5 patron margarita’ drink. We hesitated but decided to try the place out. We ordered the two specials only to find out they were $ 12 each. We told the bartender the man outside told us about the $ 5 drink but it was only towards the house margarita. The bodyguard from the outside came in and continuously argued that he never mentioned patron. Hence, we ended up paying for our bill. Another bartender was nice enough to give us 30% off the bill because of the mistake. We don’t even like patron but the fact that it was $ 5, we decided to try it out. Sure guy outside has been working there for a long time and has nothing to gain, but honestly neither do we. We hate patron but because it was cheap we decided to try the place out. Maybe if you guys learn to treat your customers right, you’d have more than 2.5 stars. I’m surprised the customers are wrong at this joint. I’d pass and drink at another location. Enjoy.

I’ve been to many bars before and the atmosphere is always about the same… Get carded. Sit down. Order some shots or drinks… Get drunk(or for most cases feel sick)… Yack… THEEND. Well today. This place changed it up a bit for me. EVERYONE here is super nice! We got seated at the bar right away by the nice hostess… Then we were greeted by two bartenders… One JUSTSOHAPPENS to be the owner of Patron Mexican Grill. He was the nicest most chill bar owner ever. Most owners don’t stand there and bother talking to their customers. This guy let me add as much mango as I wanted to my mango margarita. And I mean. I squeezed it myself! And theeeenn! After a few sips of the margarita and two patron shots… I had the balls to ask him to take a picture with me for Unilocal! He not only said yes. He told me to come behind the bar! SO I DID! We took a picture and then he let me ring the cow bell! It was all so fun! He made my night for sure! The place is so lively and the drinks were not cheap on the booze. You definitely will feel it! So glad I made a stop by here during my visit to NYC. Good place to start an evening. Came here with some friends before heading out to paint the town and figured Mexican food would provide a good base. Happy hour margaritas were tasty but mostly ice. Queso fundido appetizer was very good. Three of us ordered the chicken chimichanga special and although it was tasty, the portion was tiny and it didn’t come with anything. Also, the price wasn’t listed on the menu(that I could see) so I don’t know if I got a good deal or if I got ripped off. Another friend had a skirt steak and that was delicious, plus it came with sides. Service was friendly but kind of slow. It wasn’t that crowded but it was hard to get the girl to our table. We probably would have had double the drinks if she’d been able to get back to us. Bottom line, this is a decent place but there are plenty of options on 9th Avenue so maybe make this 3rd or 4th on your list.

Average Mexican joint in Hell’s Kitchen. Nothing here really stood out that much, though the garlic shrimp with rice wasn’t bad. Everything else was okay. It’s not Rosa Mexicano, but it’s also not terrible either(like nearby Sombrero). Prices are okay, the drinks are decent and the food is just okay. Things were on the salty side, though I would order the shrimp again if I ever came back here. I’d probably skip the fajita since it didn’t really jump out at me. The stuff I get a Chili’s even tasted better than the fajitas here, but again it’s not that far apart. The service here was okay. Not as horrible as some other Unilocal folks may have experienced. Maybe they responded to previous complaints but for me we didn’t have a hard time tracking down a server or anyone to that extent. If you’re in the area and are dying for Mexican, this place is fine. You can also try Arriba Arriba nearby, but honestly they all are about the same to me relatively speaking.

All day happy hour during the week? Fine by me! My friend brought me here and said they had killer ritas’ that I had to try. And for $ 5, how could I say no? He traveled for quite some time to Brazil and fell in love with their local rum… which this place has. To be honest, I wish I could tell you the name of it, but it was something I couldn’t pronounce. Anyway. As for me, I really enjoy a nice simple margarita, no frills. And this was a great after work hangout. Pros: The ritas’ kicked it up a notch yet retained its tangy/sweet flavor. I got the original(always on the rocks with salt on the rim) which was done very well. As for the second rita(and last) I tried the flavored. Now I’ve had a pomergranate one as well as a raspberry. But coconut? I feel like that’s venturing into the Pina Colada territory, but hey why not? I love coconut. And wow was that thing SWEET. Delicious, but sweet. Borderline cloyingly. Overall it was nice. We sat at the bar and the servers were so awesome. They conversed with us and even show us some of their dance moves! Olé! Cons: Very crowded. Surprised we got a seat! And a bit dim for my liking but I guess that is to set the mood. Will definitely come back to sample the food(which is hear is good) and will update my review. Other than that… not bad.

I’m not sure why the bad reviews since I really enjoyed my time here. I came on a Friday night with a Groupon and was treated very well. Our waiter was nice and explain how we had to order from the special menu since we had a voucher, no problem. We ordered the queso fundido and guacamole, the guacamole was good nothing special however the queso fundido was amazing. For our entrees we got chicken fajitas and chicken enchiladas, both were really good and tasty. Got tres leches as dessert it was so so probably wouldn’t order it again. Our voucher came with a pitcher of margaritas which was a a little water down but it was still good, I also ordered a coconut margarita and that was really good and strong(I’m guessing since we were paying full price for it)

There is always a sign when you enter a restaurant during the height of dinner time on 9th Ave and you can hear the crickets chirping. My basic instinct of fight-or-flight response was suppressed because my friend who choose the restaurant was waiting. The restaurant was pleasant enough. Low light. Low music made it easy to converse. The menu with the usual assortment Mexican dishes of Quesadillas, Tacos and Fajitas etc. Started with the drink of choice a frozen Margarita. We kept with the chicken and carnitas tacos since well… you can’t really go wrong with tacos right? The store brought chips with the bland tomato salsa started the meal. The description of the carnitas was ‘slowly cooked pork’ was more like day old pork and usually shredded it came in small cubes. Pork is one of those meats that if it isn’t fresh you can tell. The chicken fared a bit better but rather on the bland side. The side of rice and black beans was probably the more edible items on the plate. So the answer is yes you can make a bad taco. It is infallible as the Emeritus Pope. With a pricey menu and lack luster food, Patron needs more of a Patron Saint Gordon Ramsey for an intervention or more Patrón in the Margarita.
