When MatchaBar first opened its cute little shop in Chelsea, I didn’t realize it also has a full online business where they sell its bottled products and matcha. I got the iced white pear match, which is unsweetened. My pet peeve is when people drown tea with sugar or milk(e.g. matcha latte) because then you are no longer drinking matcha, but sugared water or milk. The small drink was a bit on the expensive side, but high quality matcha is expensive so just be prepared to splurge :) The white pear matcha, while unsweetened, still had a slight sweet after taste. It’s a great refreshing and healthy drink on a warm summer days, and perfect for walking around the neighborhood/highline.

Loved the drink, didn’t love the place so much. Ordered an iced matcha latte, along with a matcha brownie. The matcha latte was well-done(which I would hope a place named MatchaBar would be competent enough to do), however the brownie wasn’t fresh and didn’t have a very strong matcha flavor. Moreover, the café is very dull and dark– they need to lighten the place up a bit. Although the drink was good, I could find much better in the area. As a matcha fan, I am sad to say that MatchaBar isn’t my place for matcha.

First time at this place. It’s a small but cozy place. Didn’t know what to order so the cashier gave a few suggestions for first timers. Loved the almond matcha ice drink. Would definitely go back.

Their matcha drinks and desserts are both delicious. The drinks usually come unsweetened(which is great for the health-conscious). All the drinks are great and the staff is very friendly. Interior deco to this place is super cute– fake succulents scattered around and coloring books on the shelves with provided coloring pencils. There’s no way you would not like such a calm and relaxed environment!

If you are trying to drink less coffee then matcha is your answer. It is healthier for you and provides focus as well as alertness. You can have your choice of matcha latte, cappuccino, etc and your choice of milk. I like how many varieties they have, from hemp to soy and almond. They have some pastries too, some even have matcha in them. I love matchabar! This is their second location and I first went to the one in Williamsburg, which is a bit bigger. Nonetheless, this one has a few tables to sit at and nice big windows. They also have a fridge with their own brand of iced matcha in bottles and some other drinks. You can even buy their matcha powder in a cute tin with their logo on it so you can make it at home. Don’t forget to ask for the punch card if you come often, buy enough drinks and you get one of your choice free!

A place solely dedicated to matcha? Yes, please! I got the iced Matcha Latte with almond milk, which was delicious and so refreshing on a 90 degree day — it wasn’t as sweetened as I would’ve liked though. Matcha donut hole was also very yummy, but honestly, I didn’t really taste the matcha as much here. Overpriced is an understatement. 2 matcha lattes + 2 donut holes = about 14 bucks.

Kudos to Matchabar for being creative enough to have a bunch of Matcha items on the menu to be sustainable right around the corner from Liquiteria in Chelsea. It is true to its name, it’s a matcha bar. Very small and unassuming with a couple of tables and stools. I got the iced matcha latte with soy milk which was delicious.

Located conveniently by the AC train! Right in the heart of Chelsea If u are a matcha fan COMEEEEE Tips on the drinks — We had: 1) white pear matcha 2) matcha latte The white pear matcha is completely unsweetened, my friend found it a little hard to have a completely unsweetened drink but at the same time like its tea flavor and originality The matcha latte is somewhat sweetened because of the milk I really liked it Pastry Typically the green tea macaroon are the most popular thing but I came on a weekend so it was running short so I didn’t get to try it Instead I tried a green tea short biscuit thing which has milk match spread between the soft biscuits Phenomenal and amazing Ambiance is awesome, also a great place to catch up with friends and chill and read a book Super friendly service Top notch

Matcha bar is exactly what the name says. Everything has matcha in it! I personally like this place because it’s a great alternative for coffee. Matcha has just as much caffeine in it and even gives you an option to add more matcha to your drink. I got an almond iced latte. You have to add your own sweetener. The drink itself was a bit bitter which I like. You must love matcha or anything green tea if you want to come here. I would come here again.

I’ve been wanting to try out Matchabar FOREVER, since they only had their Brooklyn location. When they opened this outpost in Chelsea, I was so excited. I found myself in Chelsea on Friday with some time to kill so I figured I had to go to Matchabar. The place is tinyyy, seats maybe about 10. There was a decent line for early afternoon, too. I asked for something on the spring/summer menu(mocha matcha) but the cashier told me he had no idea what that was and that they don’t have it. Maybe I was mistaken and it’s two things, mocha and matcha? But how is that something seasonal? Anyway, no sweat, I went with the coconut chai. At first I was afraid that in a rush to pick something else I went with something completely void of matcha – then what would be the point of coming here?– but thankfully it’s a coconut chai matcha latte. I opted for ice. Losing a star for price. This latte set me back more than $ 5. As someone who usually goes for black coffee and Dunkin, this isn’t my thing. I do think it’s overprice. Also losing a star for limited seating. I was thankful to find a spot to spend some time, but it’d be so much better if they expanded(I know, not always possible). The latte, however, was delicious. I probably won’t be back often due to the price but when I want a treat, absolutely.

I HADHIGHHOPES! After seeing a friend’s post baout this place, i quickly bookmarked this place and called my friends for a «coffee» date! I ordered the Vanilla Almond Latte which i was told had matcha in it(duh right, how stupid was i?) No sub to anything to the drink, just as normal to the order. When i recieved my order, someone took it by accident first and she handed it back to me. My first sip, i literally felt like i was just drinking water and matcha powder. I was pretty confused, i knew i ordered vanilla almond beverage… but i didnt taste ANYVANILLA and ALMOND. I sipped it again and i had my friends try it as well and they both said they didnt like it. I had to go to the bar to add simple syrup to make it sweet… and it was A LOT of syrup that i added… an uncomfortable level. After finishing my drink, my friends were concerned that i might have gotten the wrong order since there were specks of what look like cinnamon or chai in my beverage, which could have been from vanilla bean but i highly doubt it. I am really hoping it was because i got the wrong drink but im upsettingly disapointted by my drink today =(

Big fan of matcha, and thus well excited for this spot dedicated to it. Saturday mid-afternoon and still a few seats available in this small location. Similar to a regular coffee place but with matcha teas, coffees, and even baked goods. Settled on the Matcha Hot Chocolate($ 4ish) and a Matcha brownie($ 4ish). The ratio of matcha to chocolate in the drink leaned way more toward the matcha side. Okay overall, yet was hoping for something sweeter. The brownie had a similar problem, less chocolatey sweetness and more matcha flavor. I do like me some matcha but I was expecting more balance. Interesting concept and hope them the best, just don’t think this is my kind of spot.

I lovee all things matcha but this bar was a little underwhelming. They have different types of drinks(all flavored with matcha), so I opted for the earl grey latte. Unfortunately, the flavor was quite muted, and I’m not sure how I feel about earl grey getting mixed in with matcha. It wasn’t a bad drink, but not one that I would go out of my way to get again. In addition to his drink, my friend also got a matcha brownie, which was pretty yummy. But again, the matcha flavor wasn’t very bold(it was more like a regular brownie with matcha powder on top). Overall great concept, but execution could need a little more work.

Boo. I was so excited for this place, and left disappointed. The matcha was a bit watered down, ‘eh. I think this place lacked the whole ritual of taking awhile to mix in the matcha and making it taste good. Btw, you can ask for crayons and color in their pretty coloring books, haha.

My friend and I stopped by to grab a quick bite to eat. I’ve never had matcha before but I love green tea, so I figured it’s probably very similar. When we walked in, I was a bit confused as to what to order. The friendly gentleman who helped me was very knowledgable and made several suggestions. I shouldve gotten his name! After narrowing my choices down to between just a regular tea or the cinnamon maple matcha latte, I finally decided on getting the regular matcha. The guy who helped me was so patient while I pondered what to get! After my friend and I sat down, he actually brought over the cinnamon maple matcha that I was thinking about getting, on the house! It was delicious, and I immediately ditched my regular matcha for this sweeter and more flavorful one. That kind of service is so rare to find, esp in the city. I will definitely be back for more cinnamon maple matcha lattes: D

As others have commented, this latest bastion of MatchaBar is in an absolutely adorable neighborhood. Just off the L, A, C, and E, picture millennials walking little dogs past bike racks and juice bars, and you get the picture. Gentrified beyond belief, but dang if it isn’t endearing. My first observation is «Ok, so we’re going with the artsy wood look.» You know the type — wood paneling, a lot of greenery, some coloring books — the kind of hip Starbucks could have been if it were able to keep up. My second observation: «It is PACKED in here.» 7 people seated, 4 in line, and then I made 12; that should speak to the size of the place(and oddly, 10 of our number were women.) Unfortunately my 2:30 stop-in seemed to be contributing to their afternoon rush, which their solitary barista was ill-equipped to handle. She was fast, but this is an involved process and I don’t blame her a bit for the wait. In a house of health, I choose what have to be the least healthy options. Matcha hot chocolate(whole milk) — $ 5.25 and cheddar scallion scone — $ 3.50. All told, pretty much the same prices you’d find anywhere else. The pastries are provided by Balthazar, so you know you’re in for something good there, but I got my matcha start at Resobox in LIC, so meeting that mark would be MatchaBar’s real challenge. The matcha hot chocolate was definitely tasty, and I appreciated that it was served at a temperature that didn’t sear my tastebuds off. Matcha is a very powerful flavor though, and it tended to overwhelm the chocolate a bit. Additionally, I’d recommend to all who are able to stick to whole milk for this — its weight and creaminess would be sorely missed otherwise. As for the cheddar scallion scone, it was excellent — you can tell that it was made in the wee hours of the morning and not recently, but it didn’t suffer too badly and was all-around enjoyable. If you’re thinking of coffee on this corner, I’d certainly recommend stopping in at MatchaBar. It offers a novel experience and a tasty drink for a cold day. Also, it turns your tongue green and that’s always funny.

Came here with a friend and i never knew the possibilities of matcha lol. I got the fuji apple ginger since my friend told me how great it was. It’s definitely a drink that will warm you up on a cold day. The ginger is very prominent but nothing that will be to much. The prices are a little higher but i’m interested to try some of their other menu items. FYI: there is no bathroom

I hope that Charles is working when you come here because he is the best! Super knowledgable and attentive. After a frenzied shopping spree at Sephora, my friend Kirsy and I stumbled in here. We decided to split two drinks and two treats because we couldn’t make up our mind. We got the cinnamon maple matcha latte(hot) and the coconut chai matcha latte(iced). For food, we got the matcha brownie and the banana bread bar. It was all delicious! The drinks are lightly sweet, refreshing and feel like health. The banana bread bar was stale I think, super hard(expected it to be soft) but I still enjoyed the flavor. The brownie was yummy and moist. Ambience: all the tables were taken but one was open, which we quickly snagged. We stayed for hours, with out computers using all the wifi. They also have free coloring books and colored pencils which we loved and they gave us free water cause we were super thirsty. Rustic wood tables, brick walls, cool décor, clean, smells good. General quiet rumble of numerous conversations and great chill indie music. Love this place! And love my dude Charles. Will be back again and again when I’m in the area.

Finally got around to trying MatchaBar now that there’s a Manhattan location! Close proximity to the A, C, E train stop and was easy to find. There are some small tables and a bar area, so plenty of seating. There was also not that many people so I felt comfortable enough to pull out a book and read. Outlets are available as well. I ordered the Iced Peaches and Cream after seeing some of the pictures on Unilocal and instagram. The peach layer was the perfect amount of sweetness. The next layer is almond milk and I prefer almond milk/soy milk so this was a plus! The matcha itself is strong, yesssss I was confused whether or not I should mix the drink. I took a sip of each layer separately to taste the flavors and mixed the drink afterwards. The drink is pricey, but don’t forget this is a place that specializes in matcha. I probably won’t be getting the Peaches and Cream again, but there are other things on the menu that are worth a try. I heard great things(more like eavesdropped) about the Fuji Apple Ginger. And there were a few people who ordered the Earl Grey Latte. The only complaint is probably the heat above the first two tables. The warmth is great but the rush of warm air was a bit overwhelming at times. The lady next to me was a bit bothered as well and switched seats cause it was too hot. So just a little warning. I’ll be back again for more matcha drinks!

I like matcha a lot. I’m so happy they opened up in Manhattan(I’ve been meaning to go to the Brooklyn location) near the train station. They’re super friendly and will offer you a stamp card. I had their iced peaches and cream matcha. It had a faint taste of peaches and after I mixed it up, I couldn’t even taste it anymore. Kinda expected a more powerful taste. Still decent though. Their baked goods are all matcha-related. They also offer sandwiches. There are a few tables and seating, kind of a small café and kind of dark. Free wifi! Not sure if I’ll return, since Chalait offers a better variety of food and is bright enough for me to see my drink. Great customer service though!
