I walked by The Yorkshire Grill on a break today and saw the Closed and For Sale signs. Heartbreaking. I first started going there as a kid for lunch in the 1960s with my grandfather, who was a partner at Loeb & Loeb a block away. I loved it, esp. the brisket sandwiche. It was so redolent of a different time. All of these places in our big cities are disappearing and becoming horrible corporate chains like Subway. Canter’s Deli and Langer’s remain. For how long?

Quick stop breakfast spot. I came here with a vendor who invited me and it was a nice chat and A-ok food. It is definitely not anything fancy, the food isn’t fancy or super outstanding but it does the job. First, the food options are plentiful and come our rather quickly. The shop was not busy when we went so this may have something to do with it but either way it was nice getting hot food, specially breakfast. Their scramble eggs with chorizo were good but nothing special. The coffee was on the light side but still tasty. The location has a «diner» feel to it for sure. You see people that look like locals and regulars stop by for their typical breakfast before work. The spot is located by a bus stop so sometimes it may seem the location isn’t there but then you see the door which leads you do the restaurant. The staff was real nice here too, they were helpful and very friendly which was nice. Definitely would stop by here again.

Nothing like it in the area: an old-school city diner that will make you a little nostalgic, but may leave you a little unsatisfied. The pleather booths, the counter stools, the very friendly and accommodating staff are a welcome throwback. And the food is a culinary throwback. I ordered the Tuesday special: Liver and onions. You can actually get it any day of the week, but that’s the day it’s a buck less. It comes with soup or slaw, and a plateful of standard 60s vegetables. The liver itself had a hearty and good flavor — a salty beef stock really found the perfect balance. You may need a stronger knife that the standard-issue silver because it’s a bit tough. However, that with the onions did hit the spot. I nibbled on, but didn’t get all gusto’d about, the vegetables. Classic green beans from a can, and instant mashed potatoes w gravy — well, it’s there if you want. I wish I tried the tortilla soup — though it was described as creamy. That pushed me toward the slaw. Now, if you want to talk about creamy — check out the slaw. It’s very wet, so I, um, just sorta left it. Again, this is me. Your predilections may vary. The crowd is quite a diverse group. Students, hipsters, area workers for sure. There was the guy who looked homeless two stools away from me, but then there was also another guy with his small group, who paid his bill with the Black Card. So, the Yorkshire Grill serves all, and that’s a good thing. I’d be interested to swing by for their breakfast sometime. Glad to have finally visited.

I happened by this place and saw their cheeseboard advertising their pastrami sandwich. I was not let down. This is a very quaint, hidden Jewish style deli in the bowels of downtown. Yay! Now I don’t have to drive all the way to Canters to get my Reuben or Mahtza ball fix.

I ordered a great sandwich which was ½ pastrami and corned beef. The standard option is usually corned beef and roast beef but I subbed. What a great sandwich! It came with a slice of swiss and on rye. I put some Russian dressing on it and it was really good. Meat was tender. The sandwich was accompanied by a pickle and some potato salad. Great and filling lunch.

I was admittedly hungover and in desperate need of some sustenance in the form of a breakfast burrito. So, stumbled here and ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito. Did it satiate the need and make me feel better? Yes. Did I eat the whole thing and not need to eat the rest of the day? Also, yes. Was it anything I’d write home about or really admit that I actually ate it? No, but I suppose I am admitting to eating the burrito by virtue of this review. I’d probably eat it again if I was extremely hungover. As a mental side note: I’ll ask for extra pico de gallo and hot sauce.

This is really the original LA Deli. Started by my Uncle Ben Star in the early 60’s I feel lucky to back there anytime. the sandwiches are not of the crazy huge variety but more a reasonable size and portion. I have been back just a few times in the last years but I always walked away with a great feeling. Highly recommended. Ben’s receipes live in there.

Poor service and very, very unclean! We sat right next to the kitchen, so I witnessed a lot of things today that I wish I could unsee… Our waitress licked her finger to turn the page on a notepad, and then 30 seconds later used her hands to redistribute fries on a plate. I watched in horror as the unsuspecting patron ate the very fries she touched with her saliva-laden finger. I saw other servers drop bowls on the floor, pick them up, and fill them with soup. Napkins fell to the floor and were brought to other tables. Hands were all over the rims of water glasses. Extra negative points: I ordered a shake, and it was served in a piping hot glass stein that melted my drink and made it froth up. Instead of a shake, I had room temperature chocolate fizz. Ick! I’ve given this place several tries since my last negative review, and each time I left disappointed. There is no air conditioning, so it’s hot as hell. It’s a tad pricey, especially considering the cold sandwiches do not come with fries. There are tons of servers and cooks hustling around, but service is still lacking. Just can’t go here again!

I love this place! Just across the street from my job. I always get the mushroom burger and when I pay the extra .50 cents for onion rings they still give me fries! but they will quickly give me the rings and I still keep my fries.

I’ve walked past Yorkshire Grill numerous times. It’s a diner that’s been around forever that seems to be closed all the time. This is probably the case since it’s open from 8 am to 2:30 pm most of the time. I came here for lunch not too long ago. The menu is American food that serves up breakfast and lunch. Breakfast meats, eggs, and toast dishes and sandwiches and salads for lunch. I had a Downtown French Dip sandwich with roast beef and au jus on a French roll and a side of fries. The sandwich was pretty bland and the au jus very salty. The fries weren’t fresh off the fryer and crispy as I wanted them to be. Pretty unsatisfying for me especially for $ 14. Service was attentive and friendly. Don’t think I’d be back. Not worth the $ 14 and the food wasn’t good in my opinion.

Well this was my first trip back in a couple years. I have been here a handful of times over the past few years, and I must say each time my experience has gone downhill over the years. The first thing I noticed when I walked in to left is all the mess around around the register and surrounding area. This did not make me optimistic for a good experience. Staff seemed a bit dishoveled, and the service was spotty. I personally ordered the NY Pastrami and the sandwich wasn’t bad. The other two guests had the Monte Christo and Open Face Turkey sandwiches with a better review on the Turkey sandwich. Just to compare, Langers which isn’t to far away is cleaner, better food quality, and old school friendly service. It is an old school diner, it’s not bad but have other diners I would rate above Yorkshire.

Great service with witty and charming waitresses and delicious tradition american food Wifi and unlimited coffee — its a perfect place for a writer, programmer or anyone that likes to work in a comfortable diner. I had a delicious omelette. Looking forward to going back.

Enjoyed the scrambled eggs with lox! My guy had a turkey sandwich and loved it! My favorite cole slaw! Great service and they do get busy at lunch!

Seriously now. Seriously, lets put this to bed already. Is it pronounced«York-Sher» or «York-Sh-i-er» like«The Shire» in Lord of the Rings!!! Because the technical reading of it should be like how«The Shire» is read in Lord of the Rings where the«i» is pronounced as how it’s read because you have an «e» at the end of the word. For instance, «Wilshire», yes the street. Technically it should be pronounced«Wil-Sh-i-er» right? You can ask anyone from out of town who has never seen the street before, they will always call it that. I think it’s an LA thing to come up with their own pronunciations of whatever words they want. What say you?! Whew, now back to the review. This place is pretty disgusting(not the food, just the location). Better rent a haz-mat suit to come here so you don’t have to touch the 1921 sticky seats and tables. I had to take a shower after I left because I felt so nasty. Example…take a look at the mirror hanging in the back right. How does a mirror that no one can touch even get that dirty?!

My co-workers love this place because it’s close to work. I’ve had two things here, a breakfast plate, which was unmemorable and the ham and cheese melt. The melt was with kraft cheese and the ham was kind of scary red. It wasn’t that melted and I only could eat half of it. The fries here looks good and they were decent frozen ones that were fried at the right temperature. Same goes for the onion rings. Otherwise, I guess if you are here for corned beef, you may enjoy it as it was a big sandwich. Overall, the best part of this place is the oldness of it. It really makes you feel like in you are in an old diner. Service is decent as all the staff hustle and are attentive. Otherwise, I would have given this a lower rating but I always appreciate a good hustle.

Had an awesome breakfast here one quiet Saturday morning. Waitress was so awesomely friendly and funny. On her suggestion I got the corned beef hash and eggs with potatoes and toast. So glad I asked — the corned beef hash was awesome. I was a little surprised I got the potatoes about a minute after the eggs and toast came out but I’m not complaining. Would definitely go back again and recommend to anyone looking for a great diner downtown.

This one little diner will probably keep me living in the heart of DTLA forever. From my first visit, they treated me like family. Even if I don’t make it in for a few weeks, they remember my order: eggs Benedict and a diet coke. The eggs are cooked so perfectly, and the hollandaise is so well balanced in flavor and texture. Although they deliver, I always end up coming in just to get the full experience of the friendly atmosphere and the oldies music playing. Seriously, forget the chain diners a few blocks away. Get your post partying or lazy Saturday breakfast food here. Their sandwiches also seem pretty good. My parents love their lunch menu, but I’m still too hooked on breakfast to have anything else. I seriously just want to hug everyone working here. You should, too.

I used to go here with my co-workers and my office used to order sandwiches for the meetings from this place. I went back recently with my coworker and she liked the place. Checker special($ 11.95): hot brisket, corned beef, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing with pickles, potato salad. I substituted my rye bread with sourdough and I liked my sandwich. Wish the yummy potato salad was bigger. I came back again with 3 girlfriends to Yorkshire Grill. Matzo ball soup($ 4.95): I didn’t care for the meatball but the broth was kinda good. Corned beef hash and eggs($ 7.95): served with potatoes and toast, my lunch was delicious. I came back again and got fresh corned beef since they were out of corned beef hash. 3.5 stars! Yorkshire Grill is kinda yummylicious!

Me and a friend came here to have breakfast. Actually, my friend recommended this place so I thought i give it a try. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess and we sat down immediately. It was not too crowded that day. My friend ordered the corned beef and eggs and it come with potatoes and toast and I ordered the three item omelet and it come with potatoes and toast. The food was decent size and it filled me up. The food was delicious. The service was great and quick, the atmosphere and décor are great and the food is excellent. I’ll be back again.

I had a date here and I must admit, the food is pretty good. It reminds me of those classic diners you see in big cities like Chicago, SF and NYC. It was full of men in suits and women in dressy work attire. It kind of felt like I was taken back in time to one of those diners on «The Mary Tyler Moore show» when working folks in big cities packed diners at lunch time to discuss business and watch news on the tv. I ended up getting the pastrami sandwich and the matzo ball soup. The sandwhich was pretty good and filling. They do not give you too much food so you have left overs, but just enough so you can force yourself to finish, but not be in a food coma. The sandwhich was pretty tasty and the soup was really good. I have tried other matzo ball soups before, but this place makes it better than most other places I have been. Ive heard that the breakfast is really tasty as well. Overall, this is one of the better breakfast and business lunch spots in downtown LA.
