Sometimes I don’t feel fancy nor do I feel like cooking; I just want a good, hot meal that’s fairly fast, convenient, healthy, and fair on the protein-to-carb ratio. Then I think it’d be great if it could cost less than $ 10 per person, and that’s when Flame Broiler comes to mind. The bowls range from $ 6.25 to $ 6.75 and the larger plates are $ 8.35 to $ 8.65. I had The Works Bowl($ 6.75) which has chicken and Angus beef, veggies(steamed cabbage, broccoli, and carrots) and my friend had the Chicken & Beef Plate($ 8.65), which came with a small cabbage salad and half an orange. Both bowls and plates come with your choice of white or brown rice at no extra charge, which is nice. Both the chicken and beef were good, although I did notice some pieces of beef were borderline dry. The chicken has its own glazed sauce but you can also get teriyaki sauce and/or hot sauce to add. More vegetables would have been nice but not at the sacrifice of protein. I wouldn’t go out of my way for this place, and I wouldn’t say it’s really delicious or must have food, but I think it’s really good for what it is: fast, simple, somewhat healthy and very affordable. The overall value is what makes it 4 stars, especially in this area. This is a small location with limited seating and it shares interior space with Stan’s Donuts, so I recommend taking it to go. We parked on the street(metered) but apparently there’s also a parking structure.

Chicken Bowl, Chicken & Angus Beef Bowl, The Works Bowl. There is enormous amount of foot traffic around here. It seems like this place would charge a little extra because they can. This place is quick and easy which lets me stop by and go back to work. The food isn’t anything special, but it never makes me sick and keeps a full-filling lunch. I prefer the Works Bowl because there is a good mixture. It has a high meat to content ratio. If you enjoy a good portion size like me and don’t like to add the usual pouring of Teriyaki sauce to cheap meals. I would recommend this place for lunch. The place is pretty loud and don’t expect to eat inside.

This place is quick and the food tastes good, but I went today and my bowl was only filled 2⁄3 of the way. I’ve been to other locations that pack that dish in and it’s enough for two meals. This was way less.

This is my favorite spot for lunch in Westwood. I am not sure if the portion size is now bigger or if it’s an illusion since they changed their bowl size, anyways I like the larger bowl. It also feels as though they’ve lowered their prices. Always a great choice for lunch!

One of the best value meals in Westwood. Around $ 5 for a mini bowl, which is totally filling and delicious. Also one of the few places I’ve been to that can cook fluffy and flavorful brown rice! I don’t know how they do it, but I’m always impressed. I tend to always get the Beef Mini Bowl with brown rice, which is a great healthy dinner option. Limited seating and the line to order can get crowded. Since this place shares space with Stan’d Doughnuts, you’ll walk in and immediately face temptation. But after a healthy meal at Flame Broiler, a doughnut isn’t the end of the world.

My office provided the lunch and it was buffet style. I ate the food without knowing where it came from. The ordered in office lunch food can be quite atrocious sometimes but this was good enough that I went back for thirds. So I asked where the food came from and they said Flame Broiler. At first I thought it was Chinese food since the taste was somewhat like Kung Pao chicken but in hind sight it is more like a small portion Hawaiian meal. The boiled cabbage, brocolli and carrots remind me of the Hawaiian bbq. The meat is also like Hawaiian bbq. I would not have guessed it was Korean fusion. The sauce on the bbq is too sweet for genuine Korean. The meat is also a little dry but the flavor is good and it goes well with the veggies, brown rice and salad. Not exactly a healthy choice as they claimed it but it is a healthier choice if the meat portions are smaller and the vege and brown rice portions are larger. All in all a tasty, healthier choice than other fast food joints.

Good, cheap food(get one of the bowls!), made very quicky. The cashiers/servers are very nice and accommodating. Even though it’s a small space, it always seems like there’s room to sit down, either inside or at the tables they have outside.

Delicious beef and chicken with rice ready for you in under 10 minutes sounds good to me. I highly recommend if you are hungry and in the area!

I like Flame Broiler overall but I like this specific one over all the other locations I visit. It’s a very small location but I love their service. They are very fast and they really pack up your bowl. I come here about 2 – 3 times a week. Its in the Westwood Village which is pretty cramped but I always find parking in the structure next door in the later afternoons. They also have the Bruno Mars album playing which reminds me of my kids so I love it. Highly recommended.

Cheep food made quick. Not much seating to eat it there but enough to work out in a pinch. If you’re trying to debate between chicken and steak I would strongly urge you to just go chicken. The bowls are good but nothing overly special. They’re great for the price and not packed full of ridiculous calories or fats, so you can fill up and not feel too guilty for eating fast food. A great solution if that’s what you’re looking for, an okay lunch or dinner otherwise.

It’s pretty cheap and the food is made really fast, but it’s truly a take-out only spot. There are 4 counter seats, so it’s really hard to sit here. The hectic nature of this spot is amplified by the line of people waiting to order food from here AND at Stan’s doughnuts. The bowls are a cute idea($ 6-ish). They advertise it as a healthy dish. I would say that even though they don’t add MSG and use«healthier» oils and such, it’s not necessarily«healthy.» However, for what it is, it’s satisfying. You get a good meat to rice ratio, with the option for white or brown rice. I got the half and half which is half chicken and half beef I believe. The meat was OK — maybe a little dry and hard, but the sauces were decent.

Stopped by after an overnight shift and was starving, so i ordered a combo plate with beef and chicken. Solid food at an inexpensive price, but nothing to write home about.

The food is fresh and although the line was pretty long, they called my number pretty fast. This location is combined with the famous Stan’s donuts which is oh so tempting while I was waiting for my food. There’s not much space to sit so I ate lunch near the hospital across the street. Still good eats if you need something on the go.

My order: Chicken Veggie, More Veggie(which means less rice), and Brown Rice. Always delicious and always affordable! I did notice they are hoarding the enjoyable teriyaki sauce now… Which is a shame because I would take about a dozen and save it for later… don’t judge me until you’ve tasted its glory. But this is the perfect place for a quick bite to eat that’s equally filling, cheap and tasty. Not a lot of outdoor seating and they do share a location with Stans Donuts. Goodluck trying to ignore the amazing aroma of fried dough… yummmm What more can I say!

2014 Unilocal365CHALLENGE — 151⁄365 I am a HUGE lover of Flame Broiler. Sadly, this isn’t one of my favorite locations. This location is located in the heart of Westwood Village, literally in the middle. It’s a REALLY small location in that it shares a small space with the famous Stan’s Donuts. There is very limited seating, and just enough room for customers to form a line in. It gets really cramped in there with all of the customers of both Flame Broiler and Stan’s Donuts trying to stand in line. Fortunately there are some tables for customers to sit at outside, which is good because there are probably 5 or so chairs inside. The last chicken bowl I got from this location wasn’t the greatest. I found lots of cartilage pieces in my bowl and it was just really unpleasant. However, my boyfriend said his bowl was pretty good. Maybe it was just an off day? idk. Parking is either street/metered, OR you can park at the garage around the corner that offers free parking for 2 hours! :) Overall…I’m only giving this FB3 stars for a very small location and not-so-great chicken.

Hands down, this is my favorite«fast food» joint in the neighborhood. I always get the chicken(white meat only) and veggie bowl with brown rice and green onions. Have to admit the chicken can be a bit on the dry side but the flavor is so good, I don’t even care that I choke a little bit. I always feel satisfied and REALLY full without feeling any guilt. They steam the veggies to order and they’re always crisp and fresh. I like to top the bowl off with some of the jalapenos and siracha they offer on the counter.

Cheap edible rice plates. Kind of like Gushi or Yoshinoya, but with more of a… I dunno, some other cultural flair. They do have kimchi as a side, Siracha as a condiment, and a shortrib plate available, so maybe a hint of Korean flair, but only in the most Americanized sense. Beef plate is bits of beef cooked almost to death(would it hurt to let them keep a little bit of tenderness, guys?), the cabbage«salad» was exactly that, and there’s almost nowhere to sit. The price isn’t bad at all, but the coupons are sorta crappy. $ 1.00 off is nice, but the«free bowl» requires you both get another entrée(reasonable) and drinks(in the fine print…). Verdict: meh. Silver lining: they share space with Stan’s Donuts, so skip the so-so rice plates and just grab an awesome peanut butter donut, plus a glazed donut, and a cup of coffee or glass of milk at Stan’s Donuts. You’ll be 10,000 times happier and much much better fed.

I may be biased for this review because it’s my go-to spot for work lunch breaks. I can walk in, order, and leave with a chicken teriyaki bowl with white rice, green onions, to go in less than five minutes. I can leave my office and get back to my desk with my food in less than fifteen minutes. That’s REALLY fast, compared to when I go to In-N-Out and spend close to 30 minutes just to get my food(To be fair, In-N-Out is a lot more popular, but who’s being fair?). In terms of taste, it satisfies. They offer free teriyaki and hot sauce, but I never need it because it’s good enough by itself. They also offer a free brown rice option if you’re trying to be healthy. Sadly, I may stop coming here after I leave my job at the end of this year, but I’ll still have the memories.
