So this place is closed? I don’t know if it currently is, as I gather from the reviews that it keeps opening and closing… I thought I saw the sign still up when I passed by recently… The sushi here was alright… it wasn’t the best, wasn’t the worst. What was weird was that they had phở… yes, phở at a sushi place… I’m giving this 3 stars solely because I had a good memory here a few years ago(and hey, that was memory was from the only time I’ve ever been to For Tuna).

Food is not horrible. nor anywhere close to being good. i will never be going back here again. — their fish quality is not that great. they slice a thin layer of fish on top of giant piece of riceball and call it a sushi piece. –customer service is okay. they are not rude. but neither are they nice. they do the minimal job of what servers have to do. — portions of all other dishes are very small. their teriyaki was just luke warm when it came out… and tempura was okay. but how can tempura ever go wrong? — parking here sucks.

For Tuna may not have the best restuarant service but the saving grace of this place is the take out service. For years I’ve been having delivery from for tuna, and they’ve always brought good food at reasonable delivery times and prices.

This place is closed again for the 3rd time. Bring two dices and if you roll 3 straight doubles, you might just get lucky with great food. At times, I’ve had good quality food but that’s rare. Throughout the years, we can see that its owner try to redecorate this place with modern contemporary buddhist style décor. But the service and food hasn’t improve. I suspect their Cooks are on strike during lunch and dinner, but that’s just my guess. I cannot whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone.

I hardly had a chance to set foot in the door before they closed, but I’m pretty sure this place was a portal to another galaxy.

I wanted to try out some different sushi places in Westwood. I went to lunch here and got a sashimi and salmon teriyaki box lunch. The amount of food they give you was good. Quality of fish was poor, salad was really bad, salmon was really bad. Tempura was okay. The waiter was really nice but the food took forever to come out and i had to waive the waiter down whenever i needed something. I would definitely never go back to this place. You are much better off going to Tomodachi Sushi just up the street.

My biggest complaint was the service — slow, slow, slow! I went once with some colleagues around 2pm on a weekday and we were one of 2 tables there. The service was slow, and to apologize for it they brought out free edamame(after our meals had been served — kind of defeats the purpose.) They were the saltiest I’ve ever had and almost inedible. Aside from this, the food was fine. The second time I went was noon during the week. After 10 minutes at the table no one had come to take our order. We left. This is Westwood, where there are some 2 dozen restaurants within a few blocks of each other — how do you stay in business with such slow service? The remodel is lovely and the ambiance is great, but due to the service, I won’t be back and neither will my colleagues.

After not having anything to eat all morning, I came to check out For Tuna for a late lunch today. I wanted to try something new in Westwood and the good looking black interior with trendy green lighting was enough to lure me in. The signs of «Kimchi Gyoza Special» and«Vegi Kimbop» gave the appearance of fusion cuisine while the menu is full of sushi rolls, phở, and bento boxes – a major Asian fusion confusion. My two sushi rolls had mixed results: Play Boy Roll($ 8 + change): Real crab with spicy tuna with a thick layer of avocado on top was subdue and bland. The spicy tuna was decent but the crab meat did not distinguish and was overpowered by the avocado. Baby Crab Roll($ 12 + change): California Roll with an overflow of mayo and froyo-like toppings of grapes, pears, and mango. Somewhere in between the big mess was chunks of crab meat ruined by all the unnecessary extravagance. After a few bites I decided to rename this the Froyo-Shaved Ice Crab Roll. The taste wasn’t terribly offensive but it was not appetizing either. The two rolls clearly did not go together so my palate was confused by the creamy sweet and spicy seafood taste the entire way through. Sadly, the complimentary beef soup was probably the highlight of the meal. Service was great in the beginning. However, I found out later that they have a separate Korean menu so I told the server that he could have introduce them to me from the start. The server’s response was nonchalant and confused over why in the world I would be interested in Korean cuisine. Well, at least he was one of the few people out there that did not mistaken me as Korean. Minus one star for having a menu that is exclusive to Koreans, and take away one more star for each sushi roll that failed to entertain.

Just terrible. My friend and I had been to every other sushi restaurant in westwood except this one, so we called in an order of 3 sushi rolls and 1 appetizer for Take Out. «It will be ready in 45 minutes». FORTYFIVEMINUTES?! For 3 rolls?! We thought«well, maybe they’re busy tonight.» 45 minutes later we came in from the rain and saw… NOONE. There was only one two-top filled in the entire restaurant. Okay, our sushi HAD to be done by now, right? WRONG. Finally, 20 minutes later(mind you, in total this has been over an hour since we placed our order) our order was ready. We brought it back to our apartment, and… wow. how disappointing. The appetizer was completely overcooked, the avocado browning, and the sushi fish quality not up to par.

Even though their prices are really low, I don’t think it’s worth it. They recently remodeled, so the inside décor is really nice, but since then their rolls have shrunk even more, with less fish and more rice. I used to get take out there when I was really craving sushi for cheap, but the new quality of their food is not worth it — I’d rather pay a little more at Tomodachi. When Japanese restaurants do not have a visible sushi bar and also serve phở, that’s not a good sign.

«for tuna?.. no thanks. i don’t do fusion itallian food» i guess for a place that covers — japanese, korean, vietnamese and whatever other asian cuisines. anyway that’s just a comment on the name of the restaurant… i’ve seen it and really never thought i’d eat here but just HOPED my assumptions were wrong and it would be wonderful. i was sick and needed a nice hot bowl of soup… PHO. sound great. so. phở. either get in car drive down wilshire to phở 99 or just cross the street and some and try for tuna. i convinced a co-worker to come with me. and bribed him with a free meal. we both got a bowl of phở. or what it was called on the menu. key points. –smushy noodles(overcooked) –very thick hearty soup too greasy –rare meat cooked into a crumble –they have cool mini sauce bowls. it looks like it’s for a minature pet. –they have serrano chilis not jalapenos –no basil nor cilantro or maybe there was. i forget these are just key points that stick out in my mind. i probabaly want to say i’d never go back. but. i do remember they have korean food. which i need like a drug. and i may have to resort to them to get my fix. they have curry, bibimbap. and other things. which is really weird. this place is also a nice date spot as everyone mentions. but. why would you want to take someone to a place with eh food.

Mediocre Sushi. The rice kept falling off of the fish. The rice was good though, it wasn’t smushy like many of the other sushi places in Westwood. They have Korean food and Vietnamese food here(phở) too. But why come to a Japanese place for that? Portions for the combination meal is a bit small. They load you up with tempura but the rest is a lacking a bit. The tempura was the best part of the combination. I will need to come here again and order some rolls to see where my rating should be.

«For» «Tuna» — Is that really the best you could come up with? Jesus christ. I was taken here to eat once, and it was awful. It looks like they spend all their revenue on décor, rather than quality food, chefs, a good menu, or competent wait help. I ordered a bowl of some sort, that was bland and gross. Others in my group ordered Korean things, that were probably less offensive than their take on Japanese food. I got all disoriented inside the restaurant, and threw up a bit in the corner upstairs. Luckily my shirt caught a good portion of it. I tried to order something else initially, but the waitress could not understand my terrible Korean that apparently sounds more like English to me. I don’t know why everyone says the service is fast here, because it was painfully slow. I was fucking starving, and since it was with a group I’m not used to being around, I was extremely anxious and awkward. Slip goes the clonazepam, away go my cares, and I can peacefully eat slop. Delicious. If I had a nickel for each time Sriracha hot sauce got in my underpants at this restaurant, I’d have like 15 cents.

Sushi anyone? Conveniently located near the UCLA campus, this restaurant is a sufficient choice for a college student’s quick-fix for raw fish. Although some elite sushi eaters may prefer a fresher selection of salmon and tuna, its quality is decent enough for the occasional sushi patron. For those who stray away from consuming anything uncooked, feel free to try an option from their cooked portion of the menu, ranging anywhere from the teriyaki chicken, to a hearty bowl of Vietnamese phở. Some may find it unusual for a Japanese sushi restaurant to have a section on their menu entirely dedicated to this traditionally well-known Vietnamese dish, but for a college student who only has her two feet as a means of transportation, and who also deeply craves the fulfilling flavors of both Japan and Vietnam, this is a perfect combination. And when you begin to think that it possibly cannot get any better or more convenient than this, you discover that they also offer free delivery. Aside from their range in foods and great accommodations, like I had mentioned before, the quality of freshness in their sashimi is not what you regular sushi goers would consider up to par. However, if you’re looking for a deliciously crispy, fried piece of gyoza, then you’re in luck. With its average tasting sushi, I would only recommend this restaurant to those who are willing to settle for a mediocre sushi experience.

The food isn’t bad but boy are they stingy with the portions. Food: 9÷15÷07: When kimchi fried rice pops up on the menu, you can be pretty sure the joint is Korean owned. Such was the case with my first visit to For Tuna, formerly Osaka(which was so good! Why did you have to leave me Osaka?!). I ordered take out and was rather pissed when I opened the box to find it was only half full. The rice wasn’t even remotely spicy and was covered in thick amounts of oil, moreso than necessary. My meal came with a microscopic salad(basically 3 lettuce leaves) with some dressing and miso soup. It was an average amount of food for the price, but not spectacular by any means. The lunch special at Osaka would’ve blown this out of the water. 10÷2÷07: I ordered a veggie tempura roll and only received 5 pieces(averaged sized) and small slivers of tempera sweet potato and onion for $ 8. The meal came with a container of miso soup, but man was that overpriced!!! Service: The server/cashier was courteous though since I only got take out, there wasn’t much on which to judge. Atmosphere: The restaurant is tiny with few seats and a narrow layout. The intimate setting isn’t so good for groups, but would make a nice backdrop for a date. There are a couple of chairs by the cash register up front for people ordering takeout. So as not to let take out customers die of boredom, trashy magazines sitting in a basket on those chairs help pass the time while waiting for your chow. Synopsis: Way overpriced for the portions!

As others have stated, the sushi is nothing to write home about. Hell they don’t even have a sushi bar, so you can’t even see it being prepared! You basically hit this place up for a cheap overall Japanese food experience. They give some extras for free: Miso to start and green tea ice cream to finish. The tempura is really good here. Other than that I’d recommend grabbing one of the box specials, or one of the Nigiri specials. Decent atmosphere for the price. Two people can get in and out of here, decently full for under $ 25.00. If you can stand a bit more cramped and loud atmosphere I’d suggest going over to California Teriyaki Bowl(next to Rite Aid). CTB has slightly better prices and more authenticity. One bright spot here is the service. The servers here are very nice, very pleasant, and make the experience worthwhile. I’ve upped the star rating to 4, because of the service. For Tuna is a great value.

Pretty good for the price. Not excellent sushi(the spicy tuna was made w/canned tuna: P) but good for the price… it’s somewhat cheap for Westwood.

My understanding is that this place just opened. It’s pretty small(only about 20 people fit inside) and there was only 1 waitress there xD. I order California Roll at every Japanese restaurant I go to that serves sushi. At this place, it was pretty good and pretty cheap except that they only give you 6 pieces that are a bit on the small size. The good thing about it, however is that they have a ½ off sushi list. Okay, well it’s not REALLY half off but it’s less than $ 5 per roll for most items. My other favorite seaweed salad was $ 2 less than at other places and tasted the same. My friend got the Beef bowl, which he says was excellent and was only $ 6. The great part is that this place has FREEDELIVERY(for orders over $ 15) and you can get take-out.

I must admit that I feel bad for giving a restaurant one or two stars… but cripes in a bee hive, this place is not happening. It serves me right for not eating all day due to heavy workloads and then spending my Friday night eating dinner at a cheap Westwood Village Japanese joint, but man… I had a dinner box: dry, scraggly chicken coupled with chemically influenced teriyaki sauce, rice that had a slightly«off» flavor situation, and salad with Kraft-like bleu cheese dressing(where did they get THAT idea!?). The gyoza were decent, and the tempura pieces were fine for what they were, to be fair; and it IS a cheap place to eat. However, with a great somewhat cheap place next door(ISO), I don’t know how For Tuna survives. Unfortunately, they were the one of the only places open at 10:30pm. Now I’m home and it’s Friday night and all I have to show for it is a stomach that just doesn’t feel right. Maybe, just maybe, if I were in college, this place would be fine… but they really need to step it up. Westwood Village has never been known for its great food, and this is no exception. ISO is a much better choice for a fairly cheap and pretty flavorful Americanized Japanese food situation.
