This restaurant is a small spot with amazing food and service. The sushi is fresh and refreshing; the proprietors go out of the way to make you feel welcome and aware of opening and closing times. I came here one time before they finished opening and they set out chairs so I wouldn’t have to stand outside. I always try to stop here whenever I’m in the area.

I had the Tonkotsu Ramen Black. I thought it was pretty good. The broth was *almost* season well, was missing some flavor, maybe some salt. The black garlic oil was a great addition. Also, surprise of the night, the salmon sashimi was actually delicious! Rare at a ramen place lol

Over the years, I’ve dropped by Onkei Ramen whenever I feel like a bowl of something warm while I’m in Westwood. Came here again recently, the store is still fairly empty. I ordered my usual tonkatsu black ramen with their garlic oil. I remember loving this bowl of ramen in the past, but this time it just felt like a bland soup with equally bland noodles. I’ll probably give them one or two more tries, but I’m still disappointed.

Got the Tan Tan Ramen. The hostess said it was the house’s main dish however, it tasted like top ramen… Also, services wasn’t that great. She never refilled our waters /: I give three stars because it wasn’t the worst but I’m not going back.

I went on a rainy day for lunch and had the spicy seafood ramen, it was pretty good. Not as flavorful like other ramen places. But this place was okay, service was great. I will maybe go back if craving ramen again…

Overpriced, underwhelming ramen. I had the black garlic chicken ramen and a few additional toppings. Extra green onion meant that I got 2 handfuls instead of just one, and the naruto was on par with what you’d find in a cup of Nong Shim instant ramen. Speaking of which, that’s basically what I paid $ 13.57 plus tip for. Everything in my bowl was most likely preserved in some way before it was served to me. Although the seasoned chicken paired well with the black garlic, the noodles and hard-boiled egg were tasteless. The presentation was good, but deceiving. Not worth the money spent.

This ramen is okay. It’s not the best or Most filling ramen there is. The menu is simple and so is the food. I think the food here is a little bit plain. The ramen I ordered was not very filling and their wasn’t anything special or memorable about the place.

Save your money, and go purchase Top Ramen down the street at the local Target. It was a little chilly last night after the UCLA baseball game so my wife and I decided we wanted hot noodles. We stumbled upon this place, and let me tell you the food and service was pathetic. The noodles were starchy, and the broth tasted like scalded water. No taste at all. Anyone that gives this place more than 2 stars must live in a bubble. Come on people, you can do better than this place. Pros: Has a nice sign out front Cons: Don’t eat here!!!

The food was good and the service was good. Maybe they’ve improved service because of the other reviews, but our group had a great experience.

Pretty good ramen. Didn’t try sushi(I don’t see why someone would demand world class sushi at a ramen shop). chicken ramen was good. Ramen Girls Yum

Pretty good ramen. Didn’t try sushi(I don’t see why someone would demand world class sushi at a ramen shop). I got the Tonkotsu Pork Black with extra Chashu. The meat is good and has some nice flavor. The Black Garlic was an unnecessary expense, and I doubt I’ll get it again. And the corn didn’t work for me. The broth and noodles tasted good to me. Not world beaters, but pretty darn good still. I think if I’ll return I’ll get Tonkotsu Pork with extra Chashu and no corn. That’d be delicious.

I really enjoyed the original chicken ramen. Although the service was very horrible. First off they spilled water on me. Second they made up and excuse that they didn’t have anymore bowls … Arnt you a soup place? Lastly the lady is racists because as me and my friend and her family ate(Mexican) they did not bother to ask if we needed anything but they would ask all the Asians if they were ok. Don’t recommend.

Wow the other reviews are right: ramen has NO flavor. I was looking forward to delicious creamy ramen and got tricked into eating this watery garlicky broth.

My girlfriend came into Onkei Ramen while I ordered my standard Westwood staple, Fat Sal’s. After receiving my order I walked over to join her while she finished eating. Being a big ramen fan, I tried some of hers and must say I was unimpressed. Although Los Angeles is filled with plenty of great ramen spots and this may have done fine in a city with few good options, it just did not compare to any of the other solid spots in town. While the noodles themselves were pretty good, the broth lacked much flavor or punch. The service was painfully slow too despite not being overly crowded. Will stick to the other options in Westwood in the future.

Got the original tonkatsu ramen, it was alright… The soup had too strong of a garlic taste to it. The noodles and pork were not bad. I could tell that the corn that they gave came straight from the can because it had little corn shavings that you normally see from canned corn. All in all, I would try my luck at another place around Westwood.

This place deserves way more than 3 stars. Where do I start??? I want to let everyone know in advance that I don’t eat pork or seafood. So a lot of ramen places can’t really cater to me. I know I’m a picky eater but still, I love ramen… Also, who doesn’t? Anyways, I ordered a chicken black garlic ramen or something, with extra noodles. Love me some ramen noodles. I saw the ramen and thought, oh, they must have put the extra noodles in there, kinda weird but whatevs, saves me a step. Then 5 seconds later, this plate comes with a huge amount of noodles, like double what anywhere else gives me. I inhaled like a vacuum. To be fair, it could be part hunger. Service is good, the lady made sure she got my order right which is always appreciated! The food came within 10 mins as it should for ramen. At the end of the day, this place is a nice clean restaurant that has a very casual vibe about it. It’s not fancy, hipster, trendy, or any other silly adjective you would use. It’s simply a ramen restaurant. Come with your friends and have a good time enjoying a delicious meal!

What happens when rent is high and there is hardly any competition? The food quality suffers. Most casual restaurants in Westwood keep quality high by charging insane prices. Onkei Ramen tries to offer affordable food but seems to take too many shortcuts in that pursuit. The tonkatsu ramen broth was light and non-greasy, which made it perfect for slurping. However, the flavor failed to impress. I could have cooked something just as good. All I need is a pork bone and a pressure cooker. Ramen toppings like sprouts and green onion are extra charge. The bowl was significantly smaller than other ramen places I frequent. As such, I ordered a baked salmon roll to accompany my meal. The baked salmon roll was 4 pieces of california roll with a minuscule piece of torched salmon on top. Looking at it made me sad.

Much like Tiffany L. said, «Meh» I don’t understand why is this a flavorless broth? Is it the lack of seasoning? I’m not looking to pick a fight, but what I look for in Ramen, particularly Tonkatsu Ramen, is a rich unctuous broth from boiling bones for hours… but here it was just blah. I probably won’t be returning for the ramen, but maybe for the fried rice cake spicy tuna sushi — that was the one good bite there. Tried some of their sushi and found it was room temperature so stopped after the salmon. The service was also needs some improvement — the«wait to be seated» sign I don’t think is needed, because the one waitress just waived us to a seat from across the room while talking with another group. And then almost literally 2 minutes after sitting she asked if we were ready to order.. . thanks, but not yet. In the long — not that flavorful, and for a bowl of noodles it should be.

Meh I’m not too crazy about this place. If anything, I’d come back to try something else. This ramen is just whatever to me. This place is small and located in the heart of Westwood. Right next to Bobaloca, Stan’s Donuts, and Flamebroiler. The service here was ok: Nice, but wished they followed up more on refilling our drinks. For all the tonkatsu ramen, I appreciate the addition of corn. Not too many people offer that as part of their dish and it’s a generous amount too. I’m just not full after eating a bowl though. I wouldn’t come here to get the ramen. If I do happen to come here again, I think I’ll try a curry dish. TONKATSURAMENRED: This ramen was supposed to be the spicier version of the original tonkatsu ramen. I love things spicy, so I was excited. However, I could taste chili oil distinctly mixed in the soup. It was still enjoyable, but not too special to me. TONKATSURAMENBLACK: This ramen has the addition of their special black garlic and oil sauce. It doesn’t look all that appetizing, but the taste was ok. I liked it better than the red, but this dish still seems taste the healthiest. I feel like they just added garlic and the poison sauce together. ORIGINALTONKATSURAMEN: I liked this ramen the best of the three. I think I’d rather order this because the broth felt the truest? It didn’t feel as oily as the red or as heavily sodium-ed/msg-ed up as the black.
