A-OK. Tried the bibimbap and the spicy tuna on crispy rice. I was satisfied.

The pricing for the sushi is fair and the taste is quite good as well. I ordered to-go and my order came out pretty quick. I recommend the Las Vegas roll. It was my favorite from what I got.

Spent a decent amount of money here with roommates over the first two years of college. The food is great and fresh. We see the owner a lot but never get to say hi. We are really familiar with the place and really liked the décor.

Good food, but the cook seemed pretty rude and distracted our waitress by constantly hitting on her. Also descriptions of sushi on the menu were vague, pictures were misleading. No one really gave us a good description.(waitress doesnt speak english, cook gave brief replies.) Ended up returning a roll we got just by looking at the menu(i honestly hate doing that, but it ended up being not what we wanted) second waiter made it all right, hope she gets the tip.

Are you using a mobile device? You see that«buy 2 get 1 free» deal? I had been eyeing that deal for a while. I checked in one night and found that it had the ridiculous stipulations that it was only available on Mondays between 9pm and 10:30pm. Okay, fine, I’ll use it some Monday night. I came back on a Monday night and tried to use it. The server looked at me like I was from another planet. «That deal is really old,» she said with a look of exasperated confusion. Okay, fine, she must not know. I’ll talk to the manager tomorrow and he’ll straighten things out and maybe comp something for the inconvenience. I go back another day when I’m in the area and talk to the manager. «That deal is really old,» he tells me, while giving me the same look of exasperated confusion his waitress gave me. I asked him why the deal was still there if they weren’t honoring it. He said he doesn’t know the password to the Unilocal account. Wrong answer, d-bag. Change it or honor it. That was over A YEARAGO. The deal is still there. What a friggin’ joke.

Awesome! The quality and quantity are both excellent. I especially love the fresh rolls, for example, Alaskan roll! Their scallop is the best ever– icy, fresh, juicy, spicy! Beside food, their service is good, too! I enjoy sitting at the bar table taking to the chef! The only things I wish to improve is — the restaurant inside a bit noisy. If there can be some sorts of «noise management,» then all the customers will feel more comfortable to sit inside. Price is a bit more expensive than other sushi places in Westwood, but it’s worth to spend more money to enjoy the food with higher quality. You are free to try anything in the menu(even the most expensive plate)! I recently relocated into another city, and I miss this sushi place soooo much! If any chance I can go back to visit Westwood, then I will definitely visit Tomodachi sushi!

This placehas great fresh fish for sushi. It is what I expect, quality wise and their plating is as well. One thing they lack is their service at times. Their waiters/waitresses don’t check to see if you need anything else, i.e.more water, ginger, etc. Though it can be understandable with them being, what I believe, under staffed and lunch hourgets pretty busy. All in all, worth going time and time again.

Pretty alright sushi, but a bit on the pricey side. Go during happy hour for the most bang for your buck!

My friend and I wanted a place to go on a Friday night to unwind, get a beer, and decent food. She hates Yamato, and I was getting sick of it too. We wanted the beer from Barney’s, but the food at Barney’s sucks. So we decided on Tomodachi. The inside of Tomodachi Sushi is so cute! It’s a tiny restaurant, and very cozy. It has a high ceiling in the sushi bar area of the restaurant, and just from the cramped coziness, it actually makes you feel like you are in NYC. Staff was very prompt and nice. I’m guessing the restaurant is partially Korean owned or something, because they also sell Korean food here too! Like bibimbops etc. Anyway they have sushi too lol. In general, the sushi was on the higher end for just average sushi. Each special roll was ranging between $ 12 – 14. So I settled with the Salmon Don. I would have to say that the salmon was actually pretty fresh and good, shockingly! The rice was weird though. Instead of giving me regular sushi rice, they gave white rice that had the nori seasoning that I have at home. And they basically just mixed the white rice plus the nori seasoning together, and put salmon over it. Idk why they couldn’t just give me sushi rice… wouldn’t that be easier anyway?! But the salmon was pretty good quality and they gave a good amount for what it was. Alcohol was super cheap too. Small beers were $ 3 each, and the Large sake was only $ 3 too! That being said, my friend and I had a great time! :D Maybe when I come back next time, I’ll try the Korean food. Haha!

YUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMY, but honestly pricey. This is a place I go to when I am very hungry and just want to chill. I get 3 rolls and spend around $ 30-$ 35. Yes, it’s pricey, but unbelievably delicious. I am a regular now…

My bf wanted sushi for his birthday and this is where we ended up! We came about twenty minutes before closing and they were still very accommodating and friendly! I was disappointed there wasn’t a late night happy hour but the prices weren’t too bad regardless. We ordered the superman burrito, two handrolls, and one baked salmon roll. All were pretty good. Nothing amazing but it wasn’t bad!

Tomodachi is a Korean-owned sushi place that also cooks Korean food as well. With that said, there is a variety of choices you have for both lunch and dinner. Their dish proportions are consistent in size and quality, but their sushi is OK in taste and freshness. The Korean dishes and the curry are a lot better IMO. Therefore, pricing is justified based on what you get. Can be overpriced on a student budget. Their baked rolls are better in quality than their raw sushi overall. The raw sushi doesn’t taste as fresh as the sushi other Westwood restaurants provide, so I usually go to Tomodachi for either curry, bento box, or their chicken Ginseng soup(~$ 15). This soup is amazing when you need something warm and healthy – I’m biased because this is my childhood. I also love their green tea ice-cream in fried tempura for dessert. But again, maybe a bit overpriced. I enjoy the cute, cozy venue. They provide pillows for couch seatings, and their maroon-colored walls provide a warm ambience that is suitable for a nice date or catch up with a friend. They also have a sushi bar right in front of the chefs, but it can get crowded. I give this place a 3STARS for their OK sushi and pricey meals.

Tomodachi is pretty good place for sushi around UCLA. For me, the quality is decent and service is okay, but a little slow sometimes during busy hours. The seating can feel a little tight, and I’m not sure if the place is air conditioned. I just felt really hot going there during the summer. Normally, I would order the lunch combos because they are the best deals. Since the sushi is just average, I wouldn’t spend the money for the fancy rolls. The lunch combo rolls are good enough for me.

I don’t remember Tomodachi being so bad… if you like sushi, and more importantly, you KNOW sushi… avoid Tomodachi. They have some of the worst sushi that I’ve had. Let me clarify and mention — I’m talking about nigiri sushi. Their sushi rolls weren’t as bad, and I can see why people would go for their sushi rolls. Cheap and filling and doused in sauce, so you can’t really taste the flavors of the fish. However, don’t get the nigiri sushi. Their miso soup had a very funky smell and flavor to it. One of the worst miso soups that I’ve ordered. If it were bland, it would’ve been better than the weird stale fishy smell that came from it. Their blue crab hand rolls were a funny purplish color that made me sniff at them before taking a bite. Flavor-wise, it seemed okay, but I couldn’t get past the color and consistency of them. Again, one of the worst blue crab hand rolls I’ve ordered. I got several of their nigiri sushi, and they weren’t as bad as their miso and blue crab, but I am definitely never returning to Tomodachi for sushi. What kind of sushi place doesn’t serve ginger with their sushi… and the fact that they also have a bunch of Korean food items… makes me question their commitment to sushi. Perhaps their Korean food is better than their sushi, but I don’t think I want to find out.

A Korean-owned sushi restaurant means sushi + Korean food. And since I’m a HUGE fan of Korean food, I didn’t even order any sushi the first time I came here. I went straight for their tofu soup… haha. At $ 10.99, the prices are slightly more expensive compared to the tofu places on Sawtelle. But hey, this place is within walking distance from my apartment so I think it’s worth it. I got the beef tofu soup. It wasn’t bad! The medium spice level was decent. I also liked how they included more than just beef. There were bits and pieces of vegetables in their as well. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is zucchini. but there were definitely others. The tofu came out sizzling hot, and I loved how they crack the egg in there for you(I always forget). You don’t get any of the traditional Korean side dishes that you normally find at tofu places… but that’s the only downside. They do serve the tofu here with a bowl of rice. The second time I came here, it was during happy hour so I decided to try out their sushi. The rolls are quite expensive normally($ 12 ish) and during happy hour, several of these rolls go for $ 9.99 instead. Can’t remember which roll I went for but it was very tasty and well presented. I also got the gyoza which was pretty good as well. Service here is fast and all the servers are very friendly. I’ll definitely be back! Mostly for the tofu soup, though. And sushi ONLY if I end up here during happy hour.

My least favorite place for sushi in westwood. The menu had variety and some things other places don’t have(like the carpaccio), but the quality of the fish was subpar. Hence, my 3 star rating. I typically order sashimi, and anything with salmon or yellowtail. But the fish here wasn’t anything worth talking about. I recommend trying other places in the area instead!

Food: Average. I come here due to convenience and lack of other options(Ami and Yamato are testing my patience with their service). The rolls are pretty good, very americanized type of sushi, but most places are like that. Prices are comparable to other places in the area. Service: Been here a couple times. Only once was something forgotten and when that happened was when 3 workers were getting in a quarrel. The Sushi chef was yelling at two waitresses due to a messed up order and he was pissed(literally yelling). Fortunately our service was good, but I could understand her missing that order considering what was happening, it was hard to focus on anything else. Free show though.

Tomodachi is a Korean-owned sushi restaurant in the heart of UCLA land. Weyburn sees a lot of college traffic and I can see how it’s a convenient spot to pop in for a quick bite in between classes They offer pretty good happy hour from 4:30 — 6:30 Mon-Thurs and 4:00 — 6:30 on Fridays– students on a budget probably flock here on this merit alone. The non-happy hour menu is really extensive and includes everything from noodles, entrees, combos, and a dizzying number of fresh/baked/tempura rolls. The options are catered to Americanized tastes, so don’t come here looking for a traditional sushi experience. The food is standard mediocre fare. My roll was forgettable(as in I don’t remember the name), but the albacore in it tasted very fishy– almost like canned tuna? The spicy tuna was also not very fresh, but everything tastes okay when doused in some spicy mayo, right? I did like the baked mussels; they had good acidity and not too much mayo, but each mussel shell was caked in burnt black residue. it was kind messy to eat. I wouldn’t recommend the Spicy Tuna over Crispy Rice. The rice was old, hard, and touch to chew and there was less spicy tuna than you can find at other places. Idk, you can find the same dish done better anywhere. Overall, Tomodachi is a convenient option for when you’re hungry and pressed for time. It’s not great sushi, but doesn’t pretend to be otherwise. You get what you see and it’s okay for happy hour prices. I don’t think I would ever go during non-happy hour hours, though.

I’ve had their sushi at the restaurant and I believe they also cater the UCLA hospital cafeteria. I’ve found their rolls to be awesome at the cafeteria. The lobster or shrimp rolls are amazing, although I love mayonnaise(just to warn). They’re about $ 11 but they’re huge. At the restaurant, your order can add up. Their sushi always says«50% off,» but even then it can get pricy. It’s a very casual ambience and they have some limited non-sushi items. Overall not bad.

Come here a lot for takeout when i don’t fee like cooking and usually don’t have any problems. However, today has just been one of those days where I seem to have bad luck everywhere I go. I ordered an Alaskan roll, which is supposed to come with cucumber and spicy scallop on the inside and salmon and avocado on the inside. I thought I had ordered the wrong thing but then I checked my receipt and surely enough i had asked for the Alaskan roll. Instead, there was imitation crab meat inside and no scallops! Now I get that maybe they didn’t have fresh scallops today and had to substitute it for something else. If they had asked me BEFOREHAND, I would’ve most likely been okay with it. But the fact that they thought they could deceive me by subbing for a much cheaper ingredient is duplicitous and unacceptable. I expect to get what i PAYFOR, unless otherwise noted, ya know? I didn’t pay $ 13 for a California roll with some salmon on top… Will probably be staying away from this place for a while in favor of Amis.
