Finding a parked taco truck scattered throughout cities in Los Angeles and Orange Counties is certainly a common sight. They seem as numerous as a 7-Eleven at the corner of the block. Heck, you might find one parked right in front of the convenience store. And one of the worst kept secrets among taco lovers and foodies alike is that some of the most delicious tacos are prepared inside a taco truck. Case in point, enter Taqueria El Capitan. Despite a myriad of choices of good to excellent taquerias in Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles, why would you find flocks of people lined up braving either the mid-summer heat or chancing their safety during the evening hours in a very sketchy neighborhood just for some tacos prepared from an old RV? This is because these are some of the tastiest tacos you will sync your teeth into and absolutely the best deals on the most iconic Mexican street food in LA! One taco is only $ 0.75 each! And on Tuesdays, two tacos are $ 1! Find me a better deal than this! The tacos, again, are not just super cheap but authentic, delicious street-style tacos. The meat choices are asada(steak), al pastor(Shepard style pork), chorizo(sausage), tripitas(intestines), pollo(chicken), lengua(beef tongue), cabeza(beef cheeks) and buche(pig stomach linings). The choices I tried were asada, al pastor and tripitas. While I like my intestines fried longer to a golden crisp, all the meats were otherwise very flavorful and cooked just right. Savory, succulent, seasoned perfectly, chopped into cubes and generously piled on to two layers of warm, soft tortilla that is 3.5″ in diameter, then garnished with diced onions and cilantro, I inhaled the three tacos and probably could have ate six. The flavors and preparation are most reminiscent of the gems I am used to finding on the streets of Tijuana, Mexico whenever I make a quarterly visit across the border just for the tacos. While Taqueria El Capitan measures very favorably among all the many taco trucks I have been to, the tacos may not necessarily be extraordinary or prepared in any unique fashion. They are, however, as good as it gets. Highly recommended. And, again, you will not find a better deal on tacos anywhere. Other menu items include burritos($ 3-$ 4), quesadillas($ 3-$ 4), tortas($ 3-$ 4) and mulitas($ 1). The hours are from 9am to 11pm. Parked on a corner in an empty lot between E. Olympic Boulevard and Prado Street. Just a few blocks from the I-5 freeway and the Citadel Outlets. CASHONLY

Awesome tacos. Al pastor are very delicious. Sucks that only Tuesday’s is the only day they have 2x$ 1 tacos.
