Had lunch there this afternoon with my wife and oldest son. It is a really nice restaurant with great staff and food. About the only«complaint» was the bugs outside, but how can you fault the restaurant for that! The rain from last night and the close proximity to the Medina River were the likely culprits. But otherwise we enjoyed the experience and will come back, most likely when we have guests in town as it is the kind of place we like to take visitors!

Upon arriving to the restaurant, we were greeted with the hostess(very friendly & sweet). We were seated promptly for a party of 8, only three us were present at the time we were seated. Once we were seated, our drink order was taken and we were still waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. After 10 minutes, an older man approached us and asked where our party is at; persistent asking if they were on their way because they have another party waiting. He then continued to make our experience uncomfortable, constantly looking to see whether our party had arrived. The older man then came to us and said«I’m sorry but I’m gonna need this table.» We wouldn’t have had a problem moving if his demeanor wasn’t so rude. He then proceeded to say he was«trying to accommodate» us. It’s so unfortunate that because of one individual, we won’t be returning. Friendly staff, cute location and the food looked good but unfortunately we won’t be going back. I really hope he’s not the restaurant manager or the owner because his attitude was horrible and if you need some pointers on how to run a business and accommodate your customers; I can teach you a thing or two. We went to dinner here for my Mothers Day Sat. 5÷7÷2016 My husband & I both ordered ribeye steak his med well mine medium. Both of them were burnt no juice in them. They were poor grade of meat alot of fat and tough. We sat on the front porch, the waitress was good but the food was poor. We won’t be going back. The owner wife was running her legs off, will the owner himself was spreading his personality and bragging about his addition he was building in the back. Let me tell you he should have been in that kitchen to see how the syeak were coming out cook. The people at the next table agrerd with us there steak eere the same way. I give them zero stars. Better work on what you have and get it right before expanding. I cannot recommend this place.

We ate dinner here and the experience was wonderful. The staff is warm and welcoming. They have a shady patio, porch and inside seating. Our food was prompt, delicious and very affordable. We will for sure be back!

Best potato salad I’ve had in Texas! The landmark sandwich is delicious. It was very clean, I felt a little underdressed as the clientele were mostly older than 50, we were there for a late lunch so maybe all the young bucks were at work. Didn’t matter, the food was great. The menus were clean not like other restaurants where their menu is full of stickiness of grossness and germs surrounding the entire menu. Paid $ 27 for lunch for 2 and that was with dessert.

This is a nice cozy place to have lunch. It’s a house turned restaurant. It’s so cute! We sat on the patio for lunch one sunny Sunday. I had a lot of ‘salads’ in one serving. Caesar salad first, a chicken salad sandwich and pasta salad on the side. It was all very good! I think they have a diff menu everyday. I’m looking forward to trying their dinner menu soon!

We love stopping by this café when we visit Castroville, which is often since two of our grandchildren live there. Freshly prepared sandwiches, soups and salads, and specials like chicken pot pie make for a satisfying lunch, and the staff are always efficient and friendly. On a beautiful day like today, eat out on the shady front yard of this one-time Castroville residence, or you can savor your meal in the homey, climate controlled indoor dining rooms. If it’s lunchtime, this is our go-to place in this quaint berg.

My husband and I ate at the Castroville café and it was good. The tomato basil soup was delicious and the chicken salad sandwich was too. I would recommend the blackberry and the peach cobblers.

Amazing, especially the patio on a sunny day. Had brunch. Food was great, service was above average. Had coffee, the sandwiches are all delicious. The Reuben, but especially warm roast beef with au jus sauce. Cute and cozy, nicely decorated with festive Christmas lights and a Christmas tree!

Wonderful Café, quaint and clean. Basil pesto and homemade bread awesome. Would give 5 stars if they cut down on the butter just a bit, but all in all a lovely experience!

This was my first time having lunch at this great little spot in Castroville. I had the chicken noodle soup, they Landmark sandwich, Caesar salad and blackberry cobbler. The soup was nice and light, goods flavors and lots of veggies. The sandwich was good, fresh onions and mushrooms. The salad had a bit much dressing butter was my fault for not asking for it on the side. Blackberry cobbler was OK, would have liked it with a bit more crust. I will definitely be back far mode.

Definitely will come back. Great food, charming restaurant with a beautiful shady patio, porch, and nearby garden. Welcoming environment with great service. I had a sandwich, tortilla soup, and salad. The iced tea is so fresh and nice, and I can not assume that will be the case. Very refreshing.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on 8÷16÷13 for lunch. We’ve eaten here before but during the winter. We were promptly seated and our drink orders were take and then we waited… And waited… And then waited some more for our server. When she finally showed up about twenty minutes later we ordered. I had the poor Willie, roast beef cheddar and ham on sour dough bread while my wife had ham avocado and cream cheese sandwich or H.A.C.S sandwich. The food was delicious but the service was terrible. Our drinks were never refilled. We never saw our server again until I asked for our bill. On top of that the A/C was broken though I don’t fault them for that. The service was totally inattentive and I do fault them for that. They weren’t that busy. Four stars for the food and zero stars for service. That gives them two stars overall. *update My wife and I recently returned after hearing there were new owners. Food and service were great. Definitely will return.

Came here from San Marcos on a workgroup to Del Rio. I always trust Unilocal(because I write for it) Seriously came here and ordered the special meatball sub and chicken tortilla soup. It was 1245pm and fully packed on a Tuesday which is good sign. Chicken tortilla soup was fully flavored, nice balance and enough spice and chicken which is essential with enough veggies. The meatball sub looked small at first but you could tell was made fresh and homemade(or I was fooled and not easily). Delicious. Best part is not always the food but service was amazing being checked on by 2 ladies every 5 – 15 minutes. Very good at reading situation. I will make it a point to stop here on way or on way back from work trips to Uvalde\del rio anytime.

Castroville Café is a gorgeous, charming lunch oasis. The service was attentive, and the owner himself came to our table several times to check on us. The food was simple, filling & tasty. Potato soup was one of the best I’ve ever had. If you are looking for a quiet, delicious spot to have a leisurely lunch surrounded by a charming, historic town, this is the place!

This is a very pleasant café with indoor and outdoor seating, on a tree-lined side street in Castroville. It used to be another café but ownership has changed hands, renovations made, and they are open for business. The entire café is tastefully decorated with open and airy rooms, bright wallpapers, natural light, and high ceilings. It appears from my visit that they also entertain private functions such as the baby shower that appeared to be ramping up as we were finishing. The food was fantastic. Most of the items are lighter fare such as sandwiches, salads, and soup; but they do offer a hamburger should the mood strike. I ate he chicken salad on a croissant with potato salad. This was a fantastic sandwich! I loved the croissant, too. I don’t know if they bake their own breads but the combination of the flaky croissant and perfectly prepared chicken salad, was spectacular. The potato salad, likewise, was great with the cubed potatoes along with the other ingredients, it was a perfect compliment to the sandwich. My wife had their tuna salad and, unfortunately, did not care for it. She says it was a bit dry and tasteless. I tried a little and thought it was just ok and that it could have used some more mayonnaise and whatever spices they added t the chicken salad. She chose the pasta salad and it was great. I tried it too and would recommend it. During the summer, I would not suggest sitting outside as the temperatures would not allow me to enjoy the meal. They do have some tables on the front porch with ceiling fans but the fans provide little relief from the Texas heat. We sat outside to start but asked to move inside — smart move. Additionally, sitting outside comes with the dust from the unpaved parking lot. Lastly, if you’re a friend of felines, you may be inspected by one(or more) of the feral cats that roam the area. Some are quite friendly while others will let you know they’re uninterested in your presence. Overall, this is a very nice lunch spot that both the ladies and the guys can enjoy. The menu changes daily so it’s a bit of a gamble but I’m sure there’ll be something on the menu that you’ll enjoy. Friendly staff, pretty quick service, great food, mostly, and a very pleasant environment make for a 4-star establishment in my book.
