William was extremely helpful and friendly. He told us where to visit and eat along with the history of the building. Nice sausage and cheese sold there… with plenty of samples. Nice find in Castroville.

let’s start with the backdrop, this place is found in castroville, tx. it’s a cute corner store with some history that the cool guy named william behind the cash register was able to share with me, my kiddo and friends during our visit. they have truffles, cheeses, dried venison pork sausages hanging up and give samples too! along with the eclectic items they sell for the home, vintage style pots and pans, clay flower pots, and color decorated plates this place is for those hippie types with international like tastes. it’s like a small small trader joes for my cali heads. ^_^ it was indeed a cute find for us and if i wasn’t on a specific diet i probably would have bought a bunch of deliciousness right then and there. the main store section is a tight squeeze and where most of the food is sold. around the corner towards the back they have an hallway with beautiful wooden stairs that according to will was added 8 years ago by the current building owners to promote the upstairs dance hall area to be rented for special occasions. there is also an elevator for the anti-step takers. the upstairs hall is huge! perfect for at least 150 people crowd, and with adorable french style doors that open onto the street it’s a gave me a that country cottage feel. For the city girl in me I appreciate quiet country like places. back downstairs, will took us into the basement, and original entrance to the building way back when. down there is a collection of indian jewelry, incense burners from new mexico, sage bundles, tapestries and other items that my senses couldn’t possible take in all at once. it’s a small whole in the ground with a low height clearance so for fun-size gals like me(anyone under 5’5″) you’ll be just fine anyone else watch your head. overall i loved the experience here. There’s even a facebook page that you can like. There sadly is no military discount but the prices there are pretty reasonable for the items inside. But Will did tell us that for every $ 100 spent he deducts 10% so the more you spend the more you save kinda mentality. If anything just passing through here for water on a hot texas day is enough to check it out. They accept all the major cc and cash ;) Tell them you read this on Unilocal and see if we can’t persuade a military discount after all or a Unilocal deal. ^_^
