Excellent place. The environment here is great. Beer is nice and cold. I had the geinness burger and shepherds pie both fabulous dishes. Music here is great. They have a Variety of different Irish beer which u don’t normally see at a so called«Irish restaurant». Harp, smithwick, and guinness are there main Irish beers. Big orders here so come ready to eat. Overall great place to be parking hard but when you get here it’s worth it.

I am giving one star because the option of no stars isn’t possible. The bartender, Joe, didn’t greet us or wait on us… a bar full of 8 people. We had to go to the counter to order. He never refilled any drinks. Food was brought out late. I had to go to the counter to pay. He bitched about his manager taking money from the till to pay for his dog’s haircut. I went to pay and he didn’t know how to run our gift cards so he slammed them down on the counter and said, «Declined» until the nice lady, who wasn’t even a supposed ‘employee’ explained that they are run as a Master Card charge. I would NEVER step foot in this establishment again nor would I recommend them. Joe is a snotty, little jerk who needs his arrogant clock cleaned!

Worst service ever. Went there for the first time last night. I waited 30 minutes as the waitress walked around me, and even bumped into me once. I finally went to the bar to get my own drink. I sat down again and watched people walk in and be served. I finally got her attention and asked for a menu and a Coke. She returned with the menu but no Coke. Another 20 minutes went by when she came to my table for my order. She complained that they were short staffed. Short staffed or not, there were only 17 people in the bar at the time. I asked for my Coke again, a Cesar salad, chicken wings, and my bill, fearing she wouldn’t return for another hour. 30 minutes later she brought my wings and the bill but no salad and then left again. When I got her attention again and asked where my salad was she said she forgot to order the salad or put it on the bill. She did say she was sorry and brought me another Coke on the house. If you are serving people, your customers don’t want to hear you complain or be told that you are short staffed. Just apologize once, then get their food!

They were SUPER busy– weekend before St. Patrick’s day and all. But Dell– part owner– actually took our bar order, made a couple, and was our personal waiter! Food took awhile, but like I said– SUPER busy. The amazing food with the personal attention compensated for any wait we had! BTW– order something Irish! It’s all good! Cheers!

We all thought our food was good. My boyfriend highly recommends the Guinness Burger. I thought it was pretty cool that you can order from the sushi place next door, too. The reviews I read before going basically said this was a place for elderly people… my grandparents picked it out, so that’s what I expected… but there was a pretty young crowd. Plenty of tv’s to watch whatever games they have playing. The service was good and waitress was friendly. I’m not sure if I’d go back because it just wasn’t really my kind of place, but it’s definitely a good spot.

I went here for the first time on a Saturday night. I was surprised how empty it was. Someone suggested me the shepherds pie and being someone who cooks shepherds pie at home(and I’m Irish) this did not impress me. I thought the potatoes were bland and I could barely find any meat. I thought because it was an Irish pub and one of their recommended dishes it would be a safe choice but next time I think I’ll just stick to your typical bar food and get a burger. Our waitress was pretty fast and there was an overall good vibe.

Excellent They get a plus star from me for the taps which always includes my favorite Pikes Kilt Lifter. I highly recommend the corned beef and cabbage. Also you can order from Happy Fish next door so we always add the Ahi Poke for our appetizer it’s delicious. During the Sunday nights during the winter local Irish artists assemble and jam through the night, it’s pretty darn cool.

2 stars should say it all. I was wondering why it was not ever that busy and now I know. Nothing stuck out as spectacular enough for me to return other than karaōke that no longer goes on. Service is so slow I was losing my appetite drinking the invisible water we were waiting on before we even got menus to order 20 min for menus and water? Hmm unimpressive.

Bentley was a super waitress, food was fabulous, was able to order food from Happy Fish to please everyone at the table ! Music was fun but a little loud and hard to talk over when they were playing.

Do not ever go this bar unless you want to get DRUGGED!!! My wife & i were both drugged by the a**hole bartender and blacked out and slept until 5 pm to awaken to a charge of $ 81 after having only one beer and one shot each!!!

I like this place. Good vibe. Great soloist seeing the blues. Food was darn good as well. Server was really nice, but a bit off. My biggest pet peeve is empty glasses. I need water when I am chowing on some steak bites. She walked by our table 3 times while our poor empty water and beer glasses just sat there at the edge of the table. Better service and updated beer list would warrant more stars. We will be back though. More into this vibe than some pretentious bistro full of you know whos.

Came here on a week night for a beer and a little dinner. It wasn’t busy at all when we arrived and we were seated promptly. I had read reviews that had mentioned their slow and lacking service, so I was surprised when a gentleman approached and took our drink order almost immediately. Annnnd, then, we didn’t see him at our table again for 30 full minutes. Thirty minutes to get 2 beers seems inordinately long. It seems unacceptably long given they weren’t very busy at the time. We did try to get our servers attention a couple of times but he was quite carefully avoiding any and all eye contact. He finally brought our beers, we ordered dinner, and waited another hour and ten minutes for that(an hour and ten minutes for mac & cheese? I mean, it’s pub grub… I can’t think of a single reason why their food would take this long to prepare). After we finished eating, we waited 20 full minutes for the check to arrive – when it didn’t we finally tried to pay at the bar(to be told we had to pay our server-who was, thankfully, within the bartenders shouting range). Bah! What an abysmal experience. I would like to hope it was just an isolated incident, but honestly – nobody dining there seemed to be getting any better service than we were. If, for some reason, you had to go here – I’d suggest sitting at the bar? Hopefully, then, at least you wouldn’t have to wait thirty minutes for a beer.

If you go in with low expectations and a desire to be surrounded by 50 – 60 year olds, then this is your joint. Can’t really say much for the atmosphere or food — would give it two stars but the staff is friendly so I suppose I feel bad. Could really use a breath of fresh life and some energy in this place. Not likely to return.

A group of about 10 of us went here for dinner. We didn’t have reservations, but were welcomed enthusiastically by our server, Brendan. Because we are all in Boise on business, our company requires us to have separate checks for reimbursement purposes. He was more than willing to do this, whereas some of the places we have been have not been so willing(we always tell the server before we order so there is no confusion at the end of dinner). The food was good and the ambience was nice. The only letdown was that they were supposed to be doing karaōke night, but had a live band instead. I would definitely go here again.

We worked with Joy at Ha Penny to plan our company«End of the Year» party in December, 2014. There was no rental fee and no minimum purchase which was awesome. The space provided to us on a Saturday night was beautiful and generous. The food arrangement was lovely as well as delicious. Three staff members were dedicated to our party and as soon as we needed anything there was a helpful and fun member of the Ha Penny team ready to make it happen. We had so much fun!!! Thanks to Ha Penny for making our night out exactly what we were looking for.

We came here not expecting much we were just hungry. However, I had their salmon and it had to have been one of the best salmon dishes I have ever had! The staff were super friendly and the place is pretty darn cool too. I could very well see ourselves going back.

Fun place, beer selection was good and the music was upbeat. The food is ok, I don’t think I’d come here again to eat. We had appetizers but they were greasy and my friends had to ask for more chips. The bartender was ok, she wasn’t busy but we had to ask for another round of drinks, and we were sitting at the bar. Probably just stick to drinks next time.

So we aren’t bar people and really did not have high expectations. We were served by Marcus the whole time and had a BLAST! Seriously wait service anymore isn’t all that great(I don’t blame them most people are rude) but Marcus was very fun, enthusiastic, attentive, and really relaxed! He made us feel like we had come there as regulars on our first visit. Just dinner on a Wednesday night but it was a really neat place! I love the lighting and the nice wood and stone style. The food wasn’t exceptional but for the price was fine, and fast! I had a veggie burger and my man enjoyed his cheese burger! He said it was one of the better ones he has had in some time. The soup(tomato basil) was really yummy! We aren’t bar people but we will be back for sure! It’s worth it to mention my family suggested it to us, my 60 year old parents and 80 year old grandparents also really enjoyed themselves and highly recommended it!

Quite a disappointment. We came to Ha Penny to spend the evening of March 14th to enjoy good food and drink and listen to the band play their beautiful music. When the band was told to leave for some reason, we did too! We went somewhere else for our dinner and the rest of our evening. Also, we were never served at our table and had to go to the bar to order our drinks three separate times. The hostess even took away our menus before we had a chance to order anything.? Service was very poor. We only came for the band and when they left we had no reason to stay.
