We called for lunch but the meals were not that tasty. The satay chicken was very different to our previous experiences as the chicken was just boiled and the satay sauce spooned over the chicken even the satay sauce was quite bland. The next dish was Singapore noodles which again quite bland. Also the credit card minimum is $ 40 with no signs to advise.

My experience at Taste of Malaya was nothing short of a waste of time and a frustrating waiting game. We had to wait for menus, cutlery, water, we had to ask for someone to take our order and then we had to wait for our food too. After an hour wait, we found out our food had not even commenced cooking yet and we walked out with nothing to show for our time except a waste of an hour and glasses of water with previous lip stains on them. Reasonable portions of food at average prices is not enough to retain customers, customer service is everything and something Taste of Malaya does not seem to have.

I very much like this restaurant! Reasonable prices, delicious dishes and a lovely, simple and elegant interior — what else could you need right? Unfortunately, I think majority of the time, they are overlooked by their neighbour, Kinn Thai, and with good reason, as the food is of a higher quality at that Thai restaurant. Furthermore, I find Thai food to be very similar to Malaysian cuisine offered at this restaurant, which is another setback! Regardless, I love coming here. Their spring rolls and curry puffs are some of the crispiest I have ever tasted. And their Szechwan sauce is fantastic, and generously poured on crunchy vegetables!

The howyadoin duck is amazing! If you like a cold meal is really tasty, also their San choi bow on entrée is delicious

A bit of a hit and miss. Some of the dishes are OK and some of them aren’t but it depends on when you’re ordering and whose cooking. Long narrow restaurant with nice but impractical tables and chairs. Order a couple of meals and a plate of rice and you’ve run out of room. Language problems plague the staff, they’re may be great with other Malays but not so the average diner. There’s a little bit of confusion over the dishes. I have been to Malaya and have had some great meals but there tends to be a strong Chinese influence — you could be in a Chinese restaurant with some plates. They get a lot of spillage from Red Spoon(a thai restaurant next door) and I think that’s the only reason they survive.
