Coopers Alehouse is a typical airport bar but with better-than-average beer on tap. We drank their Sparkling Ale and Artisan Reserve while waiting for our flight home. Their chips were thick and came with aioli. These too were better than average. Our bartender was laughably disinterested though. He didn’t acknowledge any of our orders, leaving us in suspense until they eventually arrived. It was a fitting metaphor for the modern low-cost flight experience.

Good for a drink before your flight. When we went it was empty and we were served right away. Sports pub feel.

I’m not really into sports bars, and you can therefore expect that I’m not prepared to give this place too many stars. I would much prefer to enjoy a drink next door at 1862 Bar, but the Alehouse does have a much more casual, laid-back feel to it. The leather sofas and large TV screens are what set the Cooper’s Alehouse apart from its upmarket counterpart next door. Though it feels a little unnecessary to have two bars operated by the same company right next to each other, I’m under the presumption that both cater to different crowds. Understandably, their selection of drinks is similar, but the atmosphere is quite different. The Alehouse would be more suited to larger groups rather than intimate occasions, or simply a good place to enjoy a drink whilst catching some sports highlights. Why you would want to spend even more time at the airport than necessary is beyond me, but if you don’t have the dying need to spend as little time as possible in this sort of place then, by all means, enjoy a drink provided courtesy of Coopers.
